new gun idea for spiker replacement

the spiker is going to be redundant now that duelwielding is gone, but i think it should be revamped since brutes are still in te game and it was popular for them so i suggest the neww spiker be more like a pistol for brutes but it fires in bursts of say 5 spikes and does a little less damage than two h3 spikers at once but this new one has minimal recoil and reticule bloom. just an idea i just want the spiker back, any suggestions?

  • I think Halo needs the unconventional weapons like the spiker..one of the great things about Halo CE was the oddball nature of some of its weapons (needler, charging pp, etc). If Bungie wants to make a definitive Halo game as they tout Reach to be then it needs the unconventional weapons, even simply just for the fun factor. Changing it to a class of weapon that is already well filled by the carbine and DMR, or pulling it entirely would be a mistake...keep it the way it is; Halo needs the interesting variety of weapons [Edited on 04.11.2010 11:00 PM PDT]

As a result, it operates bets between close and melee range, unlike the AR which operates best between medium and close range.[/quote] plus it has a slightly stronger melee due to the blades, this was easier to see in ODST

It just seems like a tiny distance to me....

Therefore I think the Spiker will evolve more into a semi-shotgun sorta thing, firing a cone of spikes, sort of like the Spike Grenade, which would be used for combating multiple opponents in a tight area. Of course that's a lot of 'I think's, I guess we'll see some time in the future...[/quote] We'll see. I just don't think that it's likely as it's easier to make something like the Spiker unique in the Sandbox than it is to make something like the Mauler unique in the Sandbox, given that the Shotgun is also in the game and the Mauler can't be dual-wielded anymore.

Also keep in mind, the Plasma Rifle isn't in multiplayer.[/quote] both of these differences are meaningless. when you have a slow traveling projectile like spikes/plasma, a gun thats pretty accurate vs one thats somewhat accurate wont make a difference. once that bolt is in the air your opponant and his strafe has the final say on whether it hits or not. even ignoring this, you can fire the plasma rifle accurately, without losing significant rof. another meaningless difference is that the spiker reloads and the plasma rifle overheats. in the end they are ultimately both relatively accurate close range weapons that you have to lead your shots.

  • The OP's suggestion sounds like that Gun from GOW. It too shoots 5 shots, is a pistol, shoots spikes, and! It has blades.

  • Yah, I agree that if they made the spike rifle into a 4-5 burst weapon it would be much better. Just make the shots travel faster. And give it extra damage to the head, so if one whole 5 round burst hits the guys head he will die. Also they could focus on its blades more. Make it really short range, but give it a powerful melee, or more lunge than a normal melee. This would put it in between the shotty and the AR. While if you made the burst varient it would add a mid range gun that's accurate, but not good for close range. I personally like the burst fire version more.
