Loot based games need powerful items.

I think the root of my complaint comes down to a difference of opinion on what Destiny is. I see Destiny as a PVE loot-based game which has some PVP in it. Bungie sees it as a PVP game with some PVE in it. Here's the thing. When I play loot-based games, I am looking coming back to it again and again because I am hoping to get something awesome that takes my character to the next level. In year 1, this was possible in Destiny. I played a lot, and was rewarded with a Fatebringer and Gally among other things. Now all the weapons are the same in power with minor differences caused by the perks. However when a perk works out to be good, it gets nerfed anyway. I am not sure Bungie grasps the concept of "loot-based" at this point. I don't mind seeing things rebalanced for PVP, but the PVE versions of the weapons should be left alone. Why nerf the Gally when it was hard to get? Once you get that awesome new weapon it's fun to go ruin enemies with it. That's what loot-based games are all about. In year 1 you could get a new item and it was special in some way. Now it's all about whether it looks good on your character because the stats don't matter. I really hope that going forward Bungie will catch on that this is not the experience that MMO players look for, and makes an adjustment.

  • Your answer to items being powerful, like G-horn, is because the community was shitty toward people that didn't have it. If you wanted to raid during dark below and didn't have several friends to join groups with, good luck getting into a competent group without one. It was crap. Bungie fixed it. Not because it was grossly OP, which it kinda was compared to pretty much anything, but the community did it to itself.
