New to FPS

Destiny is my first FPS and I love it. It's stories, which aren't long or complicated, are still good and keep me entertained. Even just patrolling is tons of fun. I have every mission done (almost) except all the matchmaking strikes. Because im new to FPS games and I'm not ve good, I feel like I'm just slowing everyone down and dying all the time. Does anyone else feel that way? Any advice?

Destiny can be good. Lots of missions, and objectives. A time consuming upgrade system. Fun aggressive engagements. Lots of variety in weapons and enemies. My only advive is enjoy the game and don't focus on any of the competitive play. The gameplay is good, but the Crucible's networking/hit detection/balance is bad...period. For quality competitive play try Overwatch, (highly recommend Overwatch) Battlefield, COD, or literally any other FPS. Heck download the new Titanfall 2 alpha/beta/technical test or whatever it's called. It's not great, but the gameplay is fun.

  • Mate just play the game. You'll catch on and be wrecking soon enough. When Destiny first came out i did strikes non-stop, very rarely would anyone get within 10 of my kills. Now it's pretty even. Once you've played the strikes enough you know where everything spawns and when. The same goes for raids, they're just more complex and longer strikes. Play pvp. You will most likely be terrible to start with, but just focus on not dying. Don't worry about anything but staying alive while trying to kill others. You'll learn when you can attack and when you should run. If you're 1v1 and they shoot first you're probably going to lose. If they outnumber you then you will die.

  • Another, yet related problem, is the mic issue. I have a mic (it's pretty low quality) but I've never used it much. I live in a house full of people and usually play after they go to bed, which makes chatting over the mic a problem as people get mad if I make even a little noise. So the mic thing makes me a little nervous.

    • Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

    • As long as you're contributing then people don't mind so much is you die in a strike. Just remember, if you are the last guardian standing then you have 2 options: revive your teammates (only do this if you are positive you can do so without dying), or you can just focus on staying alive until your allies can revive in 30 seconds.

        • A lot of people will try to speed run strikes now for quick rewards. This is not the best way for you to learn as they will often abandon players who don't keep up and you will end up stuck fighting the adds they left behind. Unfortunately, this is the only way to learn If you are new to FPS then the crucible will also be bad. There is an element of skill-based matchmaking that means you will get matched against other beginners (after a few matches that it takes to learn your skill level). Learn what weapons work for you are learn the maps. Control and clash are fairly simple to pick up to start with Good luck and stick with it

            • Just play the strikes to improve. Even a guardian giving an effort is better than those that go afk in strikes! Only way to improve is to play and put yourself out there

            • People really don't care how much u die in strikes as long as u still complete it in reasonable time

            • If you're at least there and trying on the strikes you're a step ahead of most of the afk douchebags I got dropped into strikes with when I did them. Most people don't care how often you need revived, sometimes it's funny. I do strikes with my 10yo and his mate now and then so reviving is a big part of the strike. Just go for it.

                • Be honest with yourself. Yes, you may be slowing down your random partners right now, but nobody mastered this game the first time they played it. You're still learning and when you settle on weapons and tactics where you notice they work fine, you'll keep dying less and less. You grow at these challenges, and you get stronger and better every time you encounter a tough situation. It doesn't really matter if you succeed in completing them, even a retreat teaches you a lesson. Even when you are a Veteran, you still find yourself in difficult situations. That's the magic in this game, and one of the reasons why I'm a big fan of it. Even at my maximum Level and high experience, it still happens that the Level 8 "The Devil's Lair" (Sepiks Prime) Strike becomes tough due to unexpected events or using gear I'm not used to. Keep going, and your Light becomes strong. One day you will a way to overcome all obstacles. Be brave.
