• Thought I'd toss this in...the Flood were nowhere around during Reach, the only place they saw it early was during The Halo Wars game and guess...that wasn't a Bungie game...to add the flood would ruin the storyline and the magic of the flood, because as we all know the Flood escaped on Halo CE because the Covenant were semiretarded(all heads over heels for the Great Journey) and ended up letting them out...plus the book Fall of Reach never had anything deal with "Oh My Great God!!! What the hech is that odd infected ship going this way!!!???" It'd be dumb and rather...well expected if it were to happen.......

 • Good read, but it makes me a little sad for what could have been. For instance, the Empire. The UNSC is a corportate entity with absolutely no personality whatsoever. An Empire, a la Asimov, has so much more potential because it creates a social structure behind the beurocratic organization which can be used to so much greater effect to create setting, plot, and in general the fiction of a game, book, or movie. Ultimately it was the wrong move which in part created the generally bland depiction of humanity in the 26th century. Halo is still functional without an effective backstory, though, but one can't help but imagine what the world would be like with a rich and involving story to Halo rather than one that can be best summed up has "Get 'em!" • Oh, something related to zombies, will you guys have infection? Out of my 4000 games played most of them were infection, and another great idea, since you probably wont put in flood in Reach, can you atleast put them in multiplayer for infection? If you guys were to put the flood in infection to be played, it would be a thrilling ride. Could you please put in infection and some flood?

 • Bungie, do you understand how much everyone wants the flood to be in a form of firefight or how amazing it will be? It will be the greatest thing ever and everyone will love it. I don't even need to explain how great it will be you can just use your imagination. but seriously it will be intense

 • All you guys who love the flood, go look up StarHammer, by Christopher Rowley. Huge chunks of the Halo plot are lifted from this book. I'm surprised the designers don't give credit where it is due.... Also see http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=5534401

 • if it wasn't for the flood, knowing their place in the library, in more ways than one, i would have hit the reset button. time to escape. 100k (light) year wars slash quarantine zones suck.
Posted by: Iron Corwan Love them or hate them, I've always found The Flood truly fascinating and horrifying at the same time. Not only was it this huge twist that totally flipped the script on what you thought Halo really was, but it gave you an enemy that was almost unknowable and truly alien. Maybe it's the biologist in me but I really thought that The Flood were interesting with their origins and life cycle. They're extra-galactic and they use your own knowledge, skills, secrets, and flesh and blood against you. What is more grotesque and horrifying? All your deepest secrets laid bare and used as a weapon to destroy you...and ultimately be consumed. The Gravemind basically destroys all genetic diversity and individuality. That and it feels -blam!-in' to tear through a bunch of them with grenades and a shotgun. As far as the game goes, the multi-race battles are so awesome. /geek out
Many lifeforms, sitting in a galaxy.. k.i.l.l.i.n.g. Many simulations, one actual.. Before you leave this 100k ring galaxy, you find.. The Flood. Why would the Flood want to consume such an early race? To be left alone in a quarantine zone? ..Or to stop another activation? p.s. The three way battles were good stuff. I wish that could happen in multiplayer. Two teams vs. some crazy ai or something. [Edited on 04.02.2010 3:29 AM PDT]

 • Amazing article. Such a rich history for a menacing foe. I truly wish you had tried to maintain the Flood as "highly" intelligent combatants Bungie. Like the Flood Juggernaut being this "uber-intelligent" enemy you had to fight against. In Halo 3 it felt as if there was no evolution for the Flood in terms of A.I.. Therefore, the Flood ultimately felt dumb and dissatisfying.

 • That was one sweet article with some awesome pictures. I wish the flod were scarier and more grusome like that. They should bring out Firefight but with flood. So awesome if you could have like a flamethrower/chainsaw kinda like GOW style. That would be cool just decapitating flood.
