Quests that involve both PVE and PVP requirements

Good morning Guardians, I'm sure I'm not the only one to bring up something like this, but it's something that I would like to see done in the future for Y3 "hopefully". Currently, some quests involve both PVE and PVP interaction; the Exotic Sword Quest chain. Personally, I don't play PVP, I strictly like the PVE portion of Destiny. As a result, I'm faced with 2 decisions: 1) Settle and never get the Exotic Sword Or 2) Attempt to achieve the 25 Guardian kills, most likely stress and ultimately make playing an unenjoyable experience. (Note: This isn't a rant because I'm a poor PVP player, I just enjoy the PVE perspective more). I'm not saying change the current Quest, since I knew going into it there would be PVP elements as it originated with Shaxx, but for quests in the future that contain these types of requirements. My solution? How about being able to do one or the other? Where I have to kill, say 100 Majors OR 25 Guardians in the Crucible? This would satisfy players that just want to play PVE, or ones that just want to play PVP. I'm OK with Bungie making Quests like this a bit more grindy on the PVE side as it just takes times compared to Crucible where skill matters. Bungie, iterated quite a few times in the past that you should be able to play Destiny the way you want and not be hindered, however I can't if I'm absolutely required to do PVP in order to obtain certain weapons/gear. So there you have it, something I'd like to see in Y3, feel free to respond with any criticism good or bad but hopefully constructive!

  • Bumpity bump bump. Just not into PvP and haven't been since Halo got taken over by annoying pre-teens just spawn camping. Now same problem in Destiny Crucible really. Unless you play regularly you run into folks who play pretty much only PvP and have all the maps, drops, etc. memorized and just slaughter you. Gee... now I get to do this where I have to kill 25 of these PvP specialists basically hating nearly every minute of hours of game time I could be spending enjoyably playing PvE just to get a weapon that might be 'cool' to have but isn't a requirement to advance my PvE campaign/character. No thanks. You want me to get into PvP? Fix it with better matching of PvP skill/experience, randomize the map locations more, stop constantly tinkering with weapon/ability scores and we'll talk.

  • How about you don't have to complete Oryx HM for Moments of Triumph? Same with CoE. Some people just aren't good at Raids, or don't have friends; there should be an option. How about "1000 taken kills?" I think that's doable. ^^ literally how stupid you sound

  • Bump. Multiple paths to Quest Completion for PVE/PVP focused players. With multiple steps so maybe a person might choose the PVE option on step one, but prefer to do the PVP option for step 2 if they enjoy both game modes.

    • I cheesed the PvP sword kills for the exotic sword quest. Took a buddy into Rumble and punched him with the sword hilt until I got it done. This was before they made it where you can't take a fireteam into Rumble. PvE quests that force you into PvP can kiss my ass as well. Bungie needs to un-blam!- themselves and realize that not everyone wants to play PvP.

      • I think these quests are Bungie's way of saying that they don't want you to only play one side of their game and to get some experience with the other side you don't like. I'm not a fan of PvP either but I still find the fun in it if I'm forced to play it. The swords are definitely worth it for PvE though so just try to get through it. I got all of those completed by killing with the sword hilt anyways.

        • Bump. Totally agree. Currently working on that 25 kills. It's almost impossible for someone like me. I'm not that great in PvP, and there's only 1 drop of heavy now (-blam!- you bungie). I've been at it for about 30 games and I'm at 18 out of 25. And when I'm finally done it will not be a happy thrill. It will be a bloody relief. And that's supposed to be fun? Oh. Yeah. I forgot. Jon Weisnewski hates fun.

Quests and ANY game option that pushes me to play PvP can simply kiss my ass...... The whole kill someone with a sword in PvP (heavy ammo) and then trying to get anywhere near close is simply ridiculous... I'm a lone wolf, I don't have a fireteam....... I can't see any way around this task....... same with the headshots in PvP quest......Imprecation handgun (Lousy weapon).......7 precision kills in one game in the Crucible............Geeeez!......Spend hours getting slaughtered.... What's best? Go in to a fireteam and be 'every guardian for themselves', and then stand still as your buddies shoot/swing a sword hilt at your head........ Pushing a pee poor PvP game.......(which has already ruined and broken every aspect of PvE)...with everything nerfed... and only one heavy weapon drop.......is NOT my idea of gaming chill for an hour or so

          • I have "complained" and commented about this several times, and the support from the community was not overly supportive. Apparently, if you're not good at PvP, or - heaven forbid - don't like it, then you're welcome to play another game. In fact, it's almost required that you play another game, and get the hell out of the way of the people who want to kill people in PvP. As an aside, the actual function of killing other Guardians is a bit silly in itself. The real enemy in PvE - the guts of the game - aren't humans. It's a bit like training to kill Alligators, by training to kill Bears. This situation is entirely Bungie's decision. It's not by default. Any response from them, little as it has been, is to bring out the old standby, "Just make up a team from your list of hundreds of friends." Yeah, right! In the past, when this sort of quest came up, the prime way to do it was with friends, but not as a fire team, but merely as a "You kill me then I kill you" effort. I remember six of us doing it, and it was with different kill means. One had to grenade, one had to melee, one had to use a special weapon. We all stood around and did it for a few minutes, until it was all done. What's the point? I''m inclined to think Bungie is too dim witted to realise this happens. They think everyone is merrily going around the Crucible "having fun" for hours on some damn fool grind. As I said, "What's the point?" I played IB this week. Don't bother to look me up! K/D averages about .4 or so. Score is mostly last or second last. Managed third one time when the enemy were all AFK. Often the reward was nothing, or some crap. I got a 334 Ghost, which was appreciated, but it was one out of many many other pieces of rubbish, and was the only thing I kept. Eventually I got jack of it! Being blasted from someone who wasn't there a micro second ago, time and time again, sure isn't fun! Destiny has one great thing about it. The technical operation of the game. Forget PvP, the lag doesn't allow this to work, but in PvE, is there a better graphics, a better aiming system, a better hit detection a smoother moving character in another game? I don't think so. I see that RoI will have mixed quests again. All I see is a re-skinned game. I do NOT see any change in the policy of the game, or the intent of the game, or the PvP PvE mix. For this reason, I will not be buying it. I'm sure Bungie will not be too concerned.

I can understand the frustration over this issue...as it forces players on a road they would rather not travel or have no desire to...I think the crucible can be a daunting place but not all PvP players are elitists or great fps gamers...me included...(I'm not suggesting that's what you're saying)...I get it...you're saying just cater to the different stream of destiny gamers...but here's what this did for me... I started off playing only PvE only and the thought of jumping into the crucible was scary... But as part of the sword quest I had no choice but to tick that box....and really enjoyed it...it was actually easier than I thought it would be at the same time showing me a different world in Destiny...now I only mainly play crucible as I find the unpredictability in crucible more exciting than PvE where it has gotten monotonous and boring for me bar the Raid...I'm not a great player but can see that my play has gotten better playing crucible and now am rarely on the bottom of the scorecard...I also love discovering exotics and find it a lot easier on Crucible than PvE...I was constantly running vanguard strikes and nightfall but haven't done that for months and don't miss it...don't mean to detract from your point which is still valid... Just thought I'd share my experience in this....

          • That would make all exotic quests beyond easy if all we had to do was PVE. Mainly because PVE holds no challenges in this game. Once you figure something out in PVE (which doesn't take very long) it's easy mode.

            • Instead of 25 crucible kills, I'll do 150 PvE.. Agree 100% I thought Destiny was about mixing 3 types of game, not having 2 separate. I'm sure there's many PvP ppl get bored stupid on some quest lines.

Agree 100%. But the PvE requirement needs to be higher as 25 guardian kills is supposed to take a little while if done correctly. I think that a Bungie tester needs to go in to the crucible, so that they can take a time for 25 kills, then kill Elite/Named PvE enemies for the same time, and insert that number into the quest as a optional requirement.

              • This is kind of my pet peeve right now in regards to the Chaperone quest more to the point that they have that stupid rule of losing progress on death. For people not as good at PVP it makes the process all the more tedious cause you can easily lose a huge chunk of progress on the quest if you are not the best.

                • Agree 100%. The only quest currently with an either/or component is for chaperone (and the pve component has gone too far for grindiness in relation to the pvp component).

                • I agree it is frustrating, but you just have to find a way to make it fun. For the sword kills, me and friends went into Control ONLY using the sword without ammo. When you turn it into a joke it becomes less frustrating. If someone gets killed by the sword, I guess they just didn't handle with care.

                • Run around with the hilt and hit people. It confuses people and sometimes you can kill quite a few people like during iron banner some guy killed me with the hilt like 3 times because I couldn't stop laughing

                  • I got the game for the pve, couldn't give a shit what I won't get for not doing pvp. Don't really give a f*ck what bungie wants me to do either. I'll do pvp when they kiss my ass in Macy's window.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves about Destiny. I'm not a competitive gamer, I have no interest fighting other players in order to prove who's better. I get nothing out of PVP. Furthermore, with my sub standard 2MB ( best speed available in the rural countryside of Ireland ), I think it's in the best interest of all Destiny players if I never step foot in the Crucible because it will become a huge lag fest. I don't want to do PVP and trust me, no one wants me there so why force me into doing PVP when it is the only way to obtain the weapons I want ( All the exotic swords, first curse ). Bungie needs to do a better job of keeping the two activities super ate.
