Hi,
I recently have seen a lot of posts on people getting TTK CE items for free. I have done research, and contacted Xbox support about this issue. I started chatting with them at 3:27 AM EST, and the chat ended at 4:00 AM EST. I was the first one to report this to the team, and the support agent sent the details to the Xbox Product Development Team for investigation. It's not a guaranteed glitch/human error, but the support agent thinks it's a error within the Microsoft store. A similar thing happened with Fallout 4 being free on the Xbox store and once Xbox found out, they fixed the issue immediately and they took away the licenses from the accounts that didn't purchase the game. A quote from Xbox support:
The only way to receive the license of the items or add-on is to get the item through legit means and that is to purchase the bundle containing it
. The agent also thinks that if it's an error, Microsoft will take the licenses away from the accounts that got the Add on for free. If an error, you will most likely not be able to equip them anymore once fixed. So I recommend not infusing any good class item into the exotic class items. Im not a moderator or a bungie employee, but I just want to help you guys out so you know. Thank you.

Looks like some players still can use the items.

Edited by ATP: 7/23/2016 6:55:17 PMHi Everyone, For starters, please note that I am not a Bungie Employee. I am just a community member, like yourself. It looks like Bungie is aware of this issue. The @BungieHelp Twitter Account just tweeted this out:
We're investigating how The Taken King Collector’s Edition items were issued in error to some players. You did the right thing... I never bought the TTK CE content, was still suspicious as to why they were free... now I know. And people are now sad because the exploit will get patched? Are you kidding me? Pathetic. But like I said: You did the right thing.
-
why the f**k would u complain about getting something 4 free? i would take it!
-
Wow buddy ur really nice great job!!'

When I saw this at the postmaster I thought, "Wow, Bungie gave out something cool for free!" Should have known better...
-
U should get them its worth it if u dont already have them rinallo
-
I wasn't going to use them much anyway. I just used the Sunbreaker mark to finish leveling up my subclass and that was it. Only thing I'm a little bummed about is I can't use the emotes, because those are cool.
-
The real question is: why were Microsoft messing around with the items in the destiny store? -Equips tin foil hat Maybe they're adding preorder for rise of iron in the store and accidentally did this?
-
The Destiny community can sit around all day and banter back and forth over whether to keep this stuff or have it taken back. For the people that got it for free, congrats! You are lucky and i say its Microsofts fault for the gift so let them eat it and those who got it keep it. For those who paid hard earned money for the collectors edition and/or the collectors edition upgrade, i think we should really chill over what happened, and at the same time demand from Microsoft/Bungie a payback for this absolutely stupid blunder. Give the legitimate owners of TTK CE the Rise of Iron, with the pre-order stuff, FREE!!!! Would you not agree, monetarily anyways, that this is an equitable trade? What about it Microsoft & Bungie? Do you want to piss the Destiny community off more than they already are or make right by the folks that paid money for what the community just got for free? Either way you lose, but this way stops a war of words and moral ideas between guardians that are supposed to be united.
-
I had to check my bank account to make sure I didn't get hacked or something haha
-
In my opinion, the Collector's Edition is not worth $20.
-
Let me guess. You paid for the collector edition and are very very upset.
-
But no one downloaded anything, so there are no licenses to revoke? Just what I'm thinking.
-
There's always that one guy who has to ruin it for everyone else.
-
I got all these items and tbh I was excited when I found out what they were, but I also have no problem with them being taken back as I didn't buy the CE edition. I personally respect the player that contacted Xbox as it was the honest thing to do.

Edited by Petrichor: 7/23/2016 8:46:42 PMI paid $80 to feel good about myself almost a year ago and now I don't feel the same satisfaction? Aw man...

What has me curious is the "some players" part of their tweet. Does that mean certain players (i.e. those like me who DID buy the CE content for the previous console generation and then upgraded to the next generation) WERE supposed to get that content "re-unlocked" for "free" (we already paid for it once), or that only players who bought (or re-purchased) it on their current console should still have it? Honestly, I'm going to be pissed if I loses access to the CE content again. It was bad enough that the Shaders and Emotes were class-locked from the start, even worse that I spent the extra money to GET the content and then lost it just a couple months later when I upgraded to a newer console. I mean, a small "kudos" to Bungie for finally giving me back my Blacksmith shader. Dick move taking it away in the first place, but at least they put it back eventually. They already charge an arm and a leg for rather underwhelming content "expansions," it's outright insulting to have to spend that outrageous amount of money TWICE for purely cosmetic items and fairly useless class items (as their only "unique perk" was an XP boost to the third subclass, which becomes completely obsolete the moment that subclass is completed).
-
That's unfortunate. I figured they had just released them for free at this point. Oh, well. Free exotic shard.
-
Thanks for pointing this out. Appreciate your honesty with Microsoft. When I got this stuff I was really confused and was about to contact Microsoft myself. Thank you sir!

Edited by The Lord Guardian: 7/23/2016 7:00:34 PMAs someone who not only purchased the CE TK When I moved to Xbox one, and as someone who has voiced many bitchings on these forums I do not support removing the items from players. It was a mistake, it happened and some benefited from it, So be it. I would imagine the joy of those "free" items would be small in comparison to the frustration at having them taken away. More importantly! those dance moves will get the blood flowing as well as rise core temperatures. Couple that with the titans flaming hammer on his side and those are two heat sources my fellow guardians can not afford to lose. Because as we know.. Winter is coming

I thought it was a gesture to make good for all the issues with Iron Banner...what was I thinking?

Hello everyone, this has now been fixed. (Source.) -
-blam!- I already infused it lol

What if we actively have them equipped? Will they be automatically unequipped?
