Not enough space magic in this game.

There are many things i was hyped for in destiny. Most of which, well i won't go there. One thing i'd like to touch on is that i feel that your class abilities do not make my character as sci-fantasy as i'd personally like it. I still feel as if i'm playing a generic shooter until i get my super once every 5 minutes or so, and then POOF, gone. I specifically chose warlock thinking that it would be the most space magic type class. I think many exotics and class abilities perk don't mix the game up enough and make it feel unique. SO many perks from exotic armor and class perks simply give you an extra nade, and extra perk already granted in your subclass, or extra agl/rec/arm which is hardly ever noticeable. For example, my main subclass -Sunsinger- is my favorite class because of what i like to imagine it would be not because of how it actually plays. I like to praise the sun and i love support/templary stuff, so i pretend that's what it is, even though it is does not shine enough to be called any sort of support. Its super is to throw more grenades and melees. I try to use song of flame, but allies do not understand that i'm actually running that perk because they think i'm just a grenade machine that probably just revived himself or s running extra armor. Right now the magic of the game seems to just be there to explain how our grenades regenerate, and how our melee abilities (which to be honest most of them are extremely dull) burn people/give us a shield/etc. Many of our exotic and class perks are simply boring and unnoticeable.

    • More magic would make pvp harder to balance. This may be another time when pvp limits the fun of pve.

Alright, here's what Destiny 2 needs. A Diablo-esque PvE in that enemies drop decent, level balanced loot and your class feels heavily dependent on its own resources for combat. Your guns should serve as only 50% or less of your arsenal while your three abilities each have passives and actives or can toggle between purpose. The subclasses should be more varied in purpose and you should be able to hot swap between them using your Ghost. In PvP your abilities are more limited to give the game a more shooter-esque vibe during that time and in Mayhem playlists those restrictions are removed along with the addition of 80% cooldown reduction. In this way PvP would not change too drastically for diehard PvPers out there, but the additional random mode could come around so PvE players don't feel so weak in PvP. With these changes a line could be drawn in the sand to separate the two main gameplay types and balance patches could alternate between the two to keep both sides relatively happy. In this way the game could essentially evolve into an RPG during PvE gameplay, but anyone who dislikes this style could stick mainly with PvP and only drop into PvE when they need some better guns. Last but most certainly not least, another location should be added to the Tower that would almost certainly require a loading screen. This location will be used as a PvP sandbox, making cooldowns 0% and ammo infinite. The area could have a kiosk in front of it so someone could choose whether to enter a public or private sandbox, and in the latter that person could assign changes in cooldown reduction and ammo count, as well as map detail like size and cover. The private sandbox could be used just to test out strategies for Mayhem or even for regular Crucible, or to see what the game would be like with only guns and no abilities. (Side note: A PvP mode where everyone is suppressed might be kind of fun... Someone get some friends in Classic Free-For-All and try it out if you can.) Any thoughts on that? I think this would make an excellent game, or at least it's the best idea I can come up with to keep everyone happy. Feel free to poke holes in my logic, as I rather enjoy the challenge of patching those up. I'm babbling again... What I'm saying is give feedback as you see fit.

        • Theyve nerfed too much since yr one. Its brutal. Bungie should just admit it and say they let Activision take em by the reigns. They had a sweet idea for a game. But all in all they just are making a futuristic version of cod. They no care about the LORE. Or the STORYLINE. Just pvp. PVP. the most boring and repetitive part of this game.

          • Song of Flame DEFINITELY needs work. I think that there should be a flaming circle on the floor denoting it's area of effect. Plus a perk notifier and a trigger noise for team mates - maybe an actual song or musical effect like choral harmony when it is active. Radiant skin - I think this should be Blessing of Light strength, and have an area of effect (about double bubble diameter) within which TEAM MATES are buffed with a shield. It's fair to have a larger effect as it does not drop an impenetrable bubble shield as well as an overshield.

I wonder how many other Warlocks feel similar. I main Warlock as well and specifically chose him as I always roll mage in any RPG with rogue or warrior being second and 3rd play through stuff. I was expecting to be the ranged attacker only with guns only as needed and probably the main support class. Now don't get me wrong, I am fine with how my Warlock plays, I'm just saying I thought it would be more like an RPG mage style character just set in space future setting. I think the bungling of everything related to Destiny initially is to blame here. Hell, some people to this day still think this is some kind of MMO. From the outside, reading things prior to release, I definitely thought it would be an open world RPGFPSMMO combo. Well, it's not. Again, not complaining, I just think the misconceptions (mainly created by Bungie before launch) is what leads to some of these feelings.

            • Man the game's lore doesn't explain shit about tech not in any minimal sense of the word, is like dunno, The Matrix lore, they talked about the machines and stuff but they barely explained any part of the "tech" shown in the story, we're at the beginning of the 3rd year of destiny and the amount of "hard sci fi" in Destiny's lore is almost non existent, so don't get your hopes high on the "magic" explanation of things

            • There is not enough of anything in this game all are weapons shoot water. If I run hunter I get a tripmine that shoots confetti on people. If i use my titan I get hammers to throw at people that equal the amount of damage a pillow would do. I would say this game is missing a lot but still my favorite game.

            • I agree. I choose warlock because a thought it would be a caster / support class. Supers feel lackluster for the most part. They are kind of a waste, pretty lights every five minutes or so. The only time a super truly feels awesome is when you hit a group with one in the crucible.

I agree that this is exactly what the majority of PvE players would love, but if the abilities are too different between classes, PvP would become unbalanced. I would love for this game to become PvE centric, but as the weapon sandbox changes show, it really is PvP focused. There is cool and fun content in PvE, but there will never be interesting abilities and skill trees like Mass Effect or Borderlands because that would make the classes too different for PvP. Same for exotics. To not give anything too much strength in PvP, exotics are basically useless with a small change that isn't really "exotic". Summary: Because Destiny seems to be PvP centric in balancing, the classes will always be boring grenade, boring melee, super that gives a kill or two, and a some subclass perks that don't really change anything.

                • Yeah, I chose a Warlock because I thought it would focus more on power usage or be a caster type character class, with guns! I don't really feel all that different from a Titan because the way I see it, throwing flaming space hammers, generating void bubbles, and smashing lightning seems pretty magical to me. The Stormcaller was a definite step in the right direction, but I still feel like Master Chief who can occasionally throw lightning bolts. Don't get me wrong, that is freak'n epic, but I don't feel like I'm a space wizard of the light...

                • I definitely agree that warlocks, as a class, should be more focused on space magic. I think this is part of a greater argument, which is that classes in Destiny just really aren't that diverse. Also, am I the only one who feels like Bungie uses space magic as a scapegoat for everything in Destiny that they don't know how to explain?

                • i thought when i first found out about destiny that since warlocks are supposed to be like Gandalf in space then their abilities would be about using space magic all the time, such as instead of grenades our grenade ability would be like firing little void lasers from our palms or having a little flame throwers, that do little bits of damage but can be spammed or sustained to do real damage, then hunters would get abilities that buff their weapons and they would have like timed explosives and mines since they were supposed to be the gunslinger/sneaky spec ops sort of character and titans would get abilities that allow them to go into the fray and wreck face like a dash similar to biotic dash in mass effect, that deals damage to all enemies near the path and deals a ton of damage to an enemy hit directly, then have proper grenades since they are like the "master chief" style character

                  • I completely agree! I feel it's too late to rework the game at this point. But I'd absolutely love to see the space magic wielded in a much heavier, and unique way.
