Matchmaking for Raids(?) & Moments of Triumph Difficulties for Some

Matchmaking is a large want from the community for Raids, especially amongst solo players, anti-social players, and players who don't play often due to circumstances. Being in all three of these categories makes it hard to find groups to do activities such as raids. This has been a problem for many people including my self since year 1 and the VoG. Another factor is the large experience bias people have, expecting good players only and mics or certain equipment. People can argue to suck it up and just play more but it is difficult to simply feed all of a person's time into a video game when there is family, work, school, etc for people to worry about. Me myself I have a hearing impairment and I have trouble hearing certain tonal differences in peoples voices, in person, on TV, in games, etc. This makes it frustrating to play raids as I have been constantly kicked out for not being able to hear and ask to have things repeated leaving me with the assumption I simply cannot play a raid ever due to this. Also being an extremely anti social person, stemming from very mild social disabilities, it makes it difficult to accomplish certain tasks involving many people and it makes me feel all the more put down when called bad or shitty due to my hearing difficulties. This all wouldn't have been an issue worth writing about (probably) if the moments of triumph didn't force one to do a hard mode oryx, or raid in general. It may be easy to some but for inexperienced players, players very short on time, disabled players, etc it's very hard to find people who are willing to do it with you especially with the current, oh you must have all these things and tons of exp and no noobs, mindset. Basically in conclusion I wish there was matchmaking or something of the sort for Raids to make it easier for people like me, and for people like me to avoid being subjected to verbal abuse because of our difficulties in life affecting us, or inexperience, or just plain difficulties with doing group activities such as raids. Edit: You think I'm being lazy or not joining or utilizing forums, lfg sites etc. I have been and still do, the problem is the expectations are set at levels where only experienced players are accepted to things with the options for inexperienced players there, but very limited and hard to find without spending large amounts of time trying to find a group that accepts. This is not an option for some as there are time constraints placed by work, school, family and other factors that make it stressful or difficult. Adding an OPTIONS, not a forced implementation but an option for matchmaking would help people gaon experience they need to be accepted by the standards placed by players. I don't deny that there are groups for noobs, or people with disabilities, etc, but they are very limited and it would make a lot of newer players, people with little time, inexperienced players, players with disabilities and etc much more satisfied and less frustrated. Tl;dr more options for those who aren't as fortunate/ are biased against by the general player-body would be a welcomes implementation by said less fortunate players. Edit 2: I'm just looking for constructive feedback, if you have suggestions for people like me, great. If you share my sympathies or don't, let me know how. But don't accuse or assume the niche I'm in is lazy or unwilling or not fit to play raids please. Edit 3: Many of you have talked about an in game lfg type matchmaking, or just an in game lfg overall instead of the idea of general matchmaking. I think it's actually a better idea than matchmaking, to change my perspective on the matter. The more input the better!

  • Please add the option of matchmaking for everything, including Raids!

  • If you think Matchmaking would help in raids try booting up a heist game in GTA online with matchmaking.

  • I think there should be 3 tiers for raid. Tier 1 has matchmaking but no raid drops and bosses have less health. Then people can run it and practice our teach other people. Tier 2 is the normal raid with normal drops, no matchmaking. Tier 3 will be hard mode and if you complete tier 3 and run a fireteam through tier 1 that has not completed a tier 2 raid you will have an increased drop rate the next time you complete a tier 3 raid. This will encourage top players to help those who can't find teams for whatever reason to learn the mechanics and give them a reward.

    • The main problem with matchmaking is that it'll match anyone and everyone. Raids have that special mic requirement to communicate what's going on properly so an alternative is a LFG system where you can make an in game post about what it is you're looking to do and get some kind of notification when it's being used. I did notice someone mentioning something about a tier system which is a nice idea and something Bungie should consider. The only problem that I see is that it doesn't include any of the hard raid extras that everyone should be aware about. Maybe tier 1 could be a customized version based on the lowest light level person, or if they completed normal mode, on the team so everyone has a chance to learn what's new if anything.

    • I have extreme social anxiety, and I can raid. Just have some friends and realize you're hidden behind a mic.

      • While I completely disagree with matchmaking for raids as that would force game design to dull mechanics so that a group of 6 random people at least have a chance of beating it. I do sympathize with your struggle. People may call it lazy but once you've been kicked from a group so many times you almost develop a stigma for yourself when looking for groups. "That group won't take me", or "this group wouldn't be patient enough for me". So you most of the time people who are anti-social just end up looking at recruitment and staring at post from other people wondering if they will let you in or not knowing you haven't completed it and are a little deaf. I realize this is why matchmaking would be good for you. But you have to realize it's never going to happen if Bungies wants to truly keep endgame activities challenging. Which I hope they do. Now, I would never criticize without offering a hand. The clan that I lead has led many guardians who did not think they could finish a hard raid to completion. I apologize as I did not check what console you are on before I wrote this as we are on ps4, but I would like to help you complete your moments of triumph. I assure you my group is patient and understanding and you will have a great time. Stay strong.

        • I still find it horrific that the only endgame activity that has matchmaking is Iron Banner. That there isn't a single PvE way to get to max light level with matchmaking is just sad. And in my opinion bad game design. What is worse is the seriously restricted ways to get a 335 artifact.

          • I've seen requests for MM on nightfall and CoE with some weight, but I've never seen a request for raid MM with some real weight behind it. Don't disguise your want as a community ask

              • A raid is a social activity. Communication is necessary. Being antisocial is a contraindication to social activities.

                • Lfg in game yes. Matchmaking no. You would get no communication and all sorts of issues. Introduce in game lfg with proper pre raid lobbies.

                  • No matchmaking for raid. A way for in game lfg sure, but not matchmaking, hell not even optional matchmaking. It just opens a whole new layer of sucky players being brought on without mics and cant communicate what they are doing to lose and complain its too hard.

                  • Best example of why this would not work is the division. Matchmaking is trash for endgame content. the lfg right here in these forums works fine, there are some who post with crazy requirements if u don't meet then make your own.

                  • I used to think raid matchmaking would work, and I think it would in some cases (cough cough, Crota's End), but It certainly would not work for kings fall. There is just way too much communication required to successfully complete the raid, even at the easier parts like totems. With matchmaking, there is just always going to be that random that joins in without a mic and just does whatever he wants, like those people that always grab the sword in the mini crota tier 3 boss and just sit in the corner, ruining it for everyone. I do believe that they should implement matchmaking into the nightfall and Challenge of elders, but I think the raid requires too much communication and coordination for matchmade randoms.

                  • If they put in matchmaking on the raids. We would then see nothing but bitching about the raids being completely impossible to do, and how they need to be nerfed. Those who wanted to 5 man it or less would be screwed. I would rather do it with less people than have a random in, screwing it up for the rest of the team. No thank you. An in-game LFG would be great. Matchmaking would suck ass, and be a detriment to the whole process.

                  • You could always just create you own post... like this one. On the recruitment section. Explain what you want and you will have a raid group in no time.

                    • No stop being lazy, making a group is easy now with Bungie.net than it was before with lfg. You're an idiot if you think matchmaking is a good idea. People will have no mics, people would be clueless. Matchmaking would cause headaches.
