Broken: Modifiers & damage within public areas of Nightfall

Hi there, I started this week's Nightfall, but started by going to the first public area on the right (Shattered Coast, I believe). The idea was to pick up some ammo, etc, before jumping into the Nightfall's actual mission path. I was running a 335 Warlock (Voidwalker). In the public area, ads were level 10, and I believe the Taken spawned at level 41 (not positive on the Taken level). The Nightfall modifiers are: * Epic * Void Burn * Grounded * Brawler * Trickle When I traveled to the "loot cave" and Nova Bombed Fallen (Shatter) just as they came out (note they were level 10, had no shields, and Void Burn was active), they all survived. I did this several times...same behaviour. It took me 3 shots with a 335 Invective at point blank to kill a Dregg. It took several shots with Telesto to do the same (note Void Burn). Throwing a Scatter Grenade directly into the small mob simply reduced their health (note Void Burn). Brawler was active, and a melee attack on any of the ads was almost suicide (note Voidwalker and Void Burn, as well, and this was regardless of whether or not the melee attack charged). Melee and grenade charged at normal rates (i.e. weren't affected by Trickle). I tried equipping Obsidian Mind (320, dropped light level to 333), yet the bonus energy perks of Second Thoughts (Special Weapons) and Insatiable did not trigger or provide any benefit. When the Taken came out, my character's effectiveness was almost comical, especially so against Lieutenant spawns. They have solar shields, and I unloaded a full 4-shot clip from Invective simply to take down the shield. I was killed twice trying to finish off a Lieutenant. Melee and point-blank shots with Invective were ineffective. I tried the same with Telesto (note Void Burn). It was equally ineffective. I've run Nightfall many, many times, and I've farmed in that area of Venus countless times. The behaviour I experienced doesn't match up with either, and it plays like a broken combination where I get most of the negative modifiers of a Nightfall (Trickle and Grounded weren't in effect), none of positive modifiers, and many other things were simply broken (Obsidian Mind, damage in general, etc). I exited the Nightfall, started writing this post, and re-entered the Nightfall to confirm. Same area, the Fallen spawned at level 10, and the Taken at level 11 (confirmed level 11). The Fallen were damaged the way I would expect. The Taken were a nightmare. Regular Taken ads took about 3 crit shots with my 335 Scout Rifle (with Explosive Rounds) to kill. After a few shots on a Lieutenant, I started counting Telesto shots to kill. 11 shots after I started counting. Invective wasn't effective. There were two other randoms in the area. We did finish off the Taken boss that spawned, but it was down to the wire. As well as everything else I used, I personally put in 14 void rockets on the boss (Smolder with Tracking), and due to Tracking, I hadn't missed once. They had little effect. After finishing the Taken threat, I returned to the "loot cave" to test if there was any effect due to the Taken spawn. The ads there were then much more difficult to kill again. I equipped Obsidian Mind again, and its perks didn't trigger. The Fallen ads on this second Nightfall launch weren't as difficult to kill as the first launch into the Nightfall, but they were much more difficult than normal, and they were much more difficult after the Taken spawn. I've had this type of inconsistent behaviour occur before, but never this extreme. I'm going to leave the Nightfall alone so you (Bungie) have an opportunity to look at your stats and see if you can identify what is going wrong. I understand that it can be difficult to manage balancing PVP with all the variables, balancing PVP vs. PVE with standard weapons and abilities that can be used in either, making and maintaining a game that so many people play in many different and unpredictable ways, and doing all this for a Triple A title with an evolving experience that people have high expectations for. This issue I'm running into, and have run into in different inconsistent ways in the past, if foundational. I hope all this helps! • Hello EtherealWeb, I believe the Nightfall modifiers are not active until you enter the first darkness zone, the reason for this I think is because you would be too powerful in a public area and it would upset the game balance.

    • 1) public areas as such have never been subjected to nightfall modifiers. You can be in a public area where someone is on patrol so modifiers are disabled when in said public areas. 2) enemies in patrol areas are scaled. Their damage output to you and your damage input to them is scaled. That is so if you were in the instance with someone at much lower light/gear, you wouldn't be able to just run through and destroy everything.
