So long story short me and my family sued baystate after being negligent and screwing up while doing surgery on me almost 3 years ago. I'm supposed to be getting my settlement later this year, and it's all supposed to go to me. My parents are going to put it in a trust fund and are telling to me to invest it. However I just learned from my mom that my dad is going to attempt to convince me or pressure me into buying our/his house (which I hate) shortly after getting the settlement into a trust fund (Kinda f'ed up, right?). My dad is going to buy a new car or two and I quote "be set" in with my money. This also explains a phone call I over heard between my dad and one of his friends where he said that "when Hunter gets the settlement I'm going to sell the house and be set." (I'm Hunter btw) which caught my attention but I didn't know what to think of it at first. The best part is he isn't even going to tell me until I have the money. Now I'm in the confusing situation where I either spli and move somewhere nicer when I get the settlement. I can say no and invest the money so I can live off intrest (my dad would probably try getting to it still somehow if I don't move). Or I can buy the house/property and loose most of the money and have some money and a crummy house while my dad makes his cash grab and gets what he wants even though I was the one who nearly got killed, not him. Tldr- I'm getting a settlement from a lawsuit later this year. My dad is going to try to pressure me into buying his crummy house once I get the settlement to make a cash grab. I don't want his house, my dad hasn't told me yet and I'd rather move but I don't really want to disappoint my dad though, since he's my dad and all. What do I do flood? I need advice. Btw I'm 17, turning 18 in about a week. This is all pretty stressful for me.
