Idea for new Defender melee ability

Had an idea for the Defender's melee ability, thought it would be more fun than the current "get a melee kill, get a shield" model. I doubt they're going to rework any base class abilities, but who knows, maybe this gets into Destiny 2. Idea is this: when your melee ability is charged, you can create a short term void shield. Would work similar to blocking with the swords, and would last up to a second, depending on how long you held the melee button. Regardless of how long you keep the shield up, or if it actually blocks anything, would consume the melee charge. I think it'd be fun, because it would allow you to be the first guy through a dangerous door, or step in front of otherwise lethal damage to save a teammate, all on demand. However, it would also require more skill to be used effectively, and could introduce some interesting plays/counter-play in Crucible. Thoughts? Too powerful? I'm thinking about how annoying Juggernaut strikers are, rushing with a shotgun, and I don't want it to become that.

 • To make it more balanced I think they should make exotic arms that do that I love the idea of it!!

 • I like it. Like you said, it probably would be a bit much since they would have to adjust a lot of things. For starters, the name would have to be changed from disintegrate to force barrier since it's more fitting. No Backup Plans probably wouldn't change and war machine and gift of light would need reworks as well. If those issues can be solved, I would love to see this in Destiny 2. I can already imagine an exotic that lets you reflect enemy fire with it!
