Suggestions for Destiny 2 - Crucible - Ranking System, Trials, Iron Banner

Hey, I love Destiny and play it a ton, and as a software developer I realize that there won't be any fundamental changes to the game platform for Destiny 1, but I had some thoughts about how you can make the game more fun and accessible for a wider spectrum of players. Current Problems 1. Skill-based matchmaking makes it harder for me, a "hardcore" player to play with my casual friends, and it messes up their skill-ranking as well. If I am well above the team's average, then I will do very well and a lot of times we win. This works fine for me, however the end result is that my not-good friends have now played a bunch of games where they were over their head and when they go to play solo, they'll be outmatched and get stomped. This works the same way on the opposite end - if I'm well under the average, then I'll have a very bad time playing with my MLG friends, even if we do win... 2. Prioritizing skill over connection means we end up with lots of lag. I know, not much you can do to fix the internet, but...I would like to be able to decide if I want to go against people at a precise skill level or if I want to ensure a good connection and let the skill range vary. 3. The hardcore mode Trials of Osiris is great! Except for the part where it's turned into nothing but an MLG sweat fest and is utterly inaccessible to people with average skill. I love Trials, but no casual players want to run it with me, and reading LFG sites it seems that you now have a huge barrier to entry in order to play seriously (must be 1800 elo, 1.8kd, no kids!!!). 4. Furthermore, because of the format of Trials and the fact that you can start over from the top as much as you want with no repercussion, many griefers delight in pubstomping and then dropping their cards to start over even if they've gone to the LH already. Many of these guys also make money by charging less-gifted players to carry them to the lighthouse. This is bad. Solutions My solutions are pretty straight forward: 1. Split Crucible modes into two sections: Ranked and Unranked. Ranked modes would have an effect on your elo/skill score, whereas unranked would not. The main distinction would be that in ranked modes, the priority of skill would be higher, and in unranked the priority of connection would be higher. Ranked Modes would include: Iron Banner Clash Trials of Osiris Skirmish Solo Rumble Unranked would include: Control Clash Rift Salvage Classic Rumble (teams of 3 allowed) Basically all objective-based games would become unranked, as they're a more 'relaxing' environment generally. 2. Run the ranked game modes every week, all week. Trials on a Thursday afternoon? Yes, please. 3. Make it so ranked game modes each have special vendors with exclusive guns/armor (a la Iron Banner) and rotate the inventory each week to keep things interesting. So instead of just Brother Vance and Lord Saladin, have also a Skirmish guy and a Rumble guy. 3. Implement the same 5-level rep meter as Iron Banner for each of the vendors, and reset it every week. 4. Remove the lighthouse concept. Replace it with: if you get 7 wins in a row, your vendor rep jumps to max immediately and you get an emblem if you don't already have one. Every game played after achieving max rep for the week should have double the post-game reward drop rate, and also unlock the ability to get Adept weapons/Pariah armor from rewards. 5. Allow users to gain ranked-vendor rep by playing games but only reward victories, just like in Iron Banner, for all ranked modes (including Trials). This makes it so casual players can still play trials and have a reason to try, and also get a shot at the loot. This is also good for hardcore players because it makes the pool of participants decidedly less sweaty. 6. ALSO, once you have reached max rep in Trials, you should be moved to a different matchmaking pool and only get matched up against other max rep players for the rest of the week. This takes the trolls out of the general pool of players and makes the game much more approachable for casuals. 7. All the unranked playlists would remain the same as they are, though it would be nice if the drop rates were a little better. The last Iron Banner was fantastic because you could get legendaries every 3-4 games. I don't see why that's a bad thing in regular crucible, especially since you have RNG'd perk rolls too, so most guns end up being infusion fodder anyway. -- So that's my suggestions for how to make Crucible a more fun and engaging place and also how to breathe some life into Trials.
