Hi all, "Destiny Taken King PS4 baboon beetle anteater error messages, Virgin Superhub disconnections every 20 minutes - I think I have a fix!" I enjoyed playing Destiny, but I had connection problems with that which eventually seemed to be solved by installing updates to every game I had. I then enjoyed the game. A friend then recommended Destiny the Taken King but the disconnections were back with a vengeance! Every 20-40 minutes, I would get one of these error messages: baboon, beetle or anteater. I had all kinds of problems getting anywhere in the game, especially in long boss fights as I would keep disconnecting. Sometimes after the disconnections, I would come back to a blank, black screen but I was still in the level. It was a mess. I am playing on a LAN Wired connection, but my house had 2 wifi routers in it which in theory should not affect the game, but just to make sure, I removed the old back up Wifi router, leaving the Virgin Superhub going into a netgear GS108UK 8-port gigabit ethernet router which my PS4 is plugged into. THE FIX This will take you about 15 minutes and you will have to put some settings into your router. Be brave, you can do it, and the feeling of no disconnections is amazing. I would also like to point out that every other game I play on my PS4 works fine without any problems, so I don't know what Bungie have done with their network/servers that make these problems happen. 1. WE NEED THE PS4 NETWORK SETTINGS On your PS4, go to this screen: PS4 > Settings > Network > View Connection status. The important numbers to note are the IP address which should look like this 192.168.0.x (mine was 192.168.0.6) and the MAC Address (Lan Cable) which should be 12 numbers and letters with colons in between like this ab:3r:56:g7:d5:s2 2. LOGGING INTO YOUR VIRGIN SUPERHUB ROUTER Once you have the PS4 Network information, go to your computer and go to your Internet Browser Go to the Superhub by typing this address at the top http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.0.1/home.asp Sometimes it takes a little while but it should get to the Super Hub homepage. Put in your password (if you have never changed the password, the default username and password can be found on the router, something like username admin, password changeme) The next page comes up and my Super Hub is in Router mode it says at the top. We have 3 large buttons, but the one we want is the small one in the bottom right corner "Advanced Settings" We are going to reserve your PS4 IP Address so that we only have to do these settings once. Then on that IP address, we will forward some ports so that the PS4 and Destiny Servers talk to each other better. 3. RESERVING the PS4 IP ADDRESS Go the advanced Settings button or you can go straight these using this http://192.168.0.1/advanced_list.asp Sometimes the web page gets stuck and I have to refresh it in between steps (using Google Chrome as my Internet Browser. I sometimes use Internet Explorer as that can work better). Scroll down to the 6th Heading "DHCP" Click on DHCP Reservation Go down to Add Reservation and put in the details from your PS4 Device Name PS4 MAC Address (the 12 numbers and letters from earlier, 2 in each box) IP Address 192.168.0.x (whatever your number was from earlier, mine was 6) Click on Add Reservation and you might also need to click on the Apply button in the bottom right hand corner. Ok - that part is done! Sometimes the connection to the router is a bit temperamental. I had to refresh the page a few times or stop the webpage and then refresh it again. That might just be my computer though. 5. PORT FORWARDING OUR PS4 IP Address This helps the PS4 talk to the Desting Servers better. All this information comes from the Destiny website if you are worried, here are the sources: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Troubleshoot?oid=13610 https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/11931 Add the top of the screen, go back to Advanced Settings http://192.168.0.1/advanced_list.asp then go down to the second menu "Security" and then click on Port Forwarding I added 6 rules, some people have added more, some have added less, but this is what worked for me:- In the Add Rule part, these are the details I put in: Name PS4_1 Start Port 80 End Port 80 Protocol TCP&UDP IP Address 192.168.0.x (YOUR PS4 IP ADDRESS), click on add rule Name PS4_2 Start Port 443 End Port 443 Protocol TCP&UDP IP Address 192.168.0.x (YOUR PS4 IP ADDRESS), click on add rule Name PS4_3 Start Port 1935 End Port 1935 Protocol TCP&UDP IP Address 192.168.0.x (YOUR PS4 IP ADDRESS), click on add rule Name PS4_4 Start Port 3478 End Port 3480 (first time the End port number has been different) Protocol TCP&UDP IP Address 192.168.0.x (YOUR PS4 IP ADDRESS), click on add rule Name PS4_5 Start Port 3074 End Port 3074 Protocol UDP (Only UDP Protocol!) IP Address 192.168.0.x (YOUR PS4 IP ADDRESS), click on add rule Name PS4_6 Start Port 2001 End Port 2001 Protocol UDP (Only UDP Protocol!) IP Address 192.168.0.x (YOUR PS4 IP ADDRESS), click on add rule You might also need to click on the Apply button in the bottom right hand corner. I noticed some websites also saying that you should change your UPnP Settings, but my UPnP setting I left as default which was ticked (enabled), so you can ignore that. That should be it!
