I realized why crucible hasn't been fun for me lately.
Recently I've been trying to have fun in crucible by switching things up. Forget the meta, I want to use Hawkmoon. I want to use First Curse. Let's try Hard Light. Otherwise the crucible gets too stale. I've been using MIDA and Last Word for a year now.
Thing is, I've noticed my opponents are [u]never[/u] wanting to switch things up. Last Word, Thorn, MIDA, 1000-yd. Every time. And it's super competitive. Sweat everywhere. Now I can be competitive, but not with First Curse. Why are all my opponents always high-skilled players playing to win and not for fun? Surely there must be people who want to play crucible casually right? Why is everything so competitive now that the crucible is as balanced as it's ever been?

Ohhhhhhhh. Now let's get something out of the way. I am not the best player out there. I'm not here to brag about stats. But, I am certainly not bad. As I post this, I have a 1.57 k/d on my main (titan). I am in the top 1% for DTR, kills, score, precision kills, etc. My account is linked but for some reason it has always been hidden and I can't fix it. Now I guess I can't prove it, but it certainly feel like I'm being matched against players of similar skill. Which is fine, except it's too laggy all the time and too sweaty all the time.
Bungie should either prioritize connection based matchmaking again [b]or[/b] make a ranked playlist and an unranked playlist.
Thoughts?
Edit- I'm not asking for a playlist where I can pub-stomp. I'm not asking for inexperienced players to inflate my stats. I just want a place in crucible where I can use different guns and not get steamrolled by a team of stormcallers using Thorn.

Your not alone I love playing against the top players and streamers and its cool but its like common I want to chill sometimes.

Youre not alone. Ive been running neceo as my primary which has been surprisingly fun. However, 90% or theatches are against a team using thorns the other 10% is TLW. I get people are going to use the weapons that give a faster time to kill bc they want to win. But, its boring seeing the same thing over and over again.

I have certainly noticed that I consistently matched uo with some top ranked players, or those who play the game competitively or are in tournaments. This is when I matchmake solo, mind you. When I roll with a few friends who are well below what my skill level is ranked at, the lobby I play in with them litteraly becomes a stomping ground for me. In these games, its not unreal or unlikely that I am smashing 35-40 kill games with a 3-5 K/D, easily. And its absolutely like turning a switch, where as the second I leave this group, sweat city is back. I join back with them and its a stomping ground for me. You can argue this is because we play as a team, but we really don't. We don't sweat or make MLG callouts. Theres the occasional "Oh shit, that's a -blam!-ing Hammer" but nothing massive. And its not like they do superb, they all do around average. Normally, I'm an anomaly in the lobby, as you would expect with the mesh of skill levels. Im not trying to brag, or whatever, but this has just been my experiences over the past few weeks, and it shows in the control games that I played with my friends compares to running solo.

I saw a great YouTube video explaining this phenomenon both Call of Duty and Destiny are so easy that you only get enjoyment out of the multiplayer when you stomp the other team, otherwise maintaining a 1.0 k/d is boring. I also rage a lot of games when I'm doing well, because there are so many cheap deaths in Destiny you can do nothing about it infuriates me. However, there are some games you can enjoy when yielding a 1.0, for instance battlefield or halo. Getting kills itself is rewarding because the skill gap is so high. I had a blast dying over and over in planes in battlefield trying to learn them, when I finally got decent with them it was a ton of fun

I enjoy playing people that are around my skill level, or better. So I have no problem with skill based matchmaking. It's the connections that are killing me now. I'd rarely go yellow bar, at worst. Now, I'm constantly checking my internet, thinking something is wrong on my end because I'm red barring. But, it turns out, everything is fine on my end. The majority of people I'm playing are in New Zealand or some other county on, literally, the other side of the world. Of course connections are going to be questionable, at best. [spoiler]I'm not calling out New Zealand. Just an example of a far flung land.[/spoiler]

Don't help all the people playing with 3rd world connections used to be matched with other 3rd world players and mostly as a result have high k/d not playing against the majority of players based on connection type and location. So now it's skill based matchmaking and you get to play these people with high k/d and they red bar and teleport around....always easy to tell for me because it always seems their accounts are from south America and some Asia .

5 RepliesThe connection issues that arise from skill-based matchmaking (as opposed to connection-based matchmaking) are a legitimate complaint. That said, it's pretty funny to see all the high skill player complaining about being matched with their own kind. I know it was fun for you to be able to curb-stomp us lower-skilled guys, but how fun was that for us, do you think? Skill-based matchmaking, *if implemented successfully* (it's not clear that it has been), should make the game more fun for everybody, if you appreciate playing someone who can challenge you (rather than instantly annihilate you or be annihilated).

Yeah. The only reason why I came back to play this game is to have fun switching around my load outs. It's slot more fun than keeping one gun out for a whole match

I'd actually like that. Unranked playlists with random opponents 100%, and one rank based system. Both should prioritize connection quality too.

4 RepliesThen play for fun. If your stats drop due to having fun then you'll eventually be put out of sweaty only games. I don't understand these post, play for fun. Stats honestly mean very little unless you seriously think they gain you bragging rights. Destiny isn't a game you can boast having skill. Play for fun bro, stats are just pathetic game scores. If it ain't paying the bills or taking care of you in real life, don't fret about it.

The first curse is a beast of a gun. I used to use that and imago loop when I played destiny.

2 RepliesI like trying to mix up load outs in crucible a lot, but I always get mauled if I'm not using the flavor-of-the-month weapons (still get destroyed sometimes when I am). I'm not that great to begin with because I try to lone wolf it too much, and don't have friends online that still play on XB1.

Am I the only one that never sees thorn? The only one I've seen recently is mine and I don't even go try hard unless its iron banner or trials. If I do well then great, if I suck for a few games then oh well still fun.

Thank the skill based matchmaking. All my games are like sweaty matches, with people using ToO loadouts. It's pretty annoying.
