Who We Were: Twilight Gap pt. 4 Final

The remaining titans sniped the retreating Fallen. The Kell of Kings took a vandal's wire rifle and aimed at Commander Saladin! The Kell charged a bolt, keeping Saladin in the reticle!... BANG!!... A titan shot the Fallen's left shoulder! The Kell dropped the weapon and covered its wound with its hand. It howled once more then hobbled off. Tanks marched behind the army acting as rear protection. It didn't help when two guardians in star fighters flew over firing missiles at them! Two tanks lost their footing and exploded. A third one lost its right front and right middle leg, causing it to slant to one side. The dregs inside rushed to get out but another missile blew them up as they opened the hatch. The injured and medics stayed within the walls of the Twilight Gap. One titan was being carried to a wall by a couple of battle frames. Blake and James walked in that same room at the same time. The titan tried to move his leg, but was failing. "Get going medic." said James shoving Blake forward. Blake walked up to the titan and pulled out a first aid kit. "What all injuries do you believe you have sustained?" "My right knee for one. I can't bend it. My left arm has been hit by a wire rifle. Cut and burnt." said the titan. "Okay. Your knee maybe broken, so I will put some splits on it. I wouldn't walk on it for a while, so get your frames to carry you to a shuttle." Blake looked to his ghost. "Doc, check his arm, tell me the severity of the burn." "A new test subject for my new medical skills?! Of course." Doc pulled out two syringes and a needle and thread! Blake put his hand in front of Doc. "On second thought, I'll look at it..." Doc looked to Blake disappointed and stuck the two syringes back on his shell. Blake looked at the titan's arm. "Ow. Sir, the wire is still in you. It also seemed to cauterize your blood vessels. Since it could block the vessels, I will have to remove it. This will hurt a lot! Here, bite on this." Blake pulled out a piece of cloth. The titan took off his helmet and bit the cloth. Blake pulled out a pair of tweezers. He reached into the wound and grabbed the wire. He slowly pulled it trying to loosen it from the skin. "Aaahhhh!!!" the pain was excruciating! "Sir, I got the wire loose. All I got to do is pull it out. Like a bandage just a lot worse..." The titan, straining, simply nodded. Blake grabbed another piece of cloth. "Take three deep breaths. On the third breath, I will pull it out..." The titan inhaled, exhaled... inhaled, exhaled... inhaled, exhaled! Blake yanked out the wire! "Aaahhhhhh!!!!!" Blake took the cloth and covered the wound! It turned deep red in mere seconds! Blake tied the cloth around his arm. "There you go, Sir." Blake looked to the frames. "Get him on the shuttle and to a hospital!" As the frames were slowly carried the titan away, Blake rushed to give him his helmet. "It's a shame that your helmet was damaged. Maybe someone can replace the horn." "...No. I think I will leave it as a reminder of the battle." "That would make a great trophy... Shaxx." Blake handed him the helmet. Blake and James continued to walk around the battlefield. Blood spilled everywhere, cut wires, bullet holes, raging fires, and fallen buildings. "Something just occurred to me." said James. "What's on your mind?" asked Blake still looking for injured titans. "You fixed a potential broke leg and pulled molten steel out of a guardian. Yet, you couldn't perform CPR." continued James. Blake stopped and looked at him. "I haven't completed my medical training." "But CPR should be the top things to learn!" "I don't know. I thought my idea worked." chimed Doc. "Which was?" asked James. "Attempt CPR, Kill guardian, have ghost resurrect guardian." "Really? That's all you got?" "Since we didn't know what injuries you had, it was a shot in the dark. We could try my other idea..." "Do I want to know what your other idea was, Doc?" "That's up to you, James. But if you want to be my guinea pig..." Doc pulled out his syringes out of his shell. "I don't know what to call this? Doc Special?" James punched Doc thirty yards back! "I'd rather not." James' ghost, Susan, appeared beside him. She had a white shell with a red X over her eye. She also spoke with a soothing, gentle voice. "Why did you hit him?!" "What?" asked James. "That is not nice! Say you're sorry!" "Su-" "Apologize to him!" With the most disgusted attitude, James looked to Doc and said he was sorry. Blake tried his hardest not to laugh! "That's better. Do that again and you're grounded." Susan looked right at James' eyes. "I know you are trying to be my voice of reason, but you act like my mother!" yelled James, embarrassed. Susan caught the potential joke at hand. "Well, I did give you life..." Blake lost it! Nonstop laughing! He was hunched over trying to catch his breath. When he stood back up, he wiped away a tear. "WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT?!!" shouted James. Susan's spirit lit up. "I'm going to talk to Doc for a second." Susan flew off leaving Blake and James. "Is she trying to be annoying?" asked Blake. "Noo... When I'm being overly reckless, she keeps me alive. My voice of reason. The only issue is, her kindhearted spirit allows her to play along with jokes to keep the atmosphere cheerful." answered James. The two titans boarded a shuttle back to the Tower. The shuttle was filled with injured titans, all going to the E.R. When the shuttle docked with the Tower, Blake and James waited for everyone to get off first. They two walked off and headed for the Hall of Guardians. A small ceremony was happening. Commander Saladin was leaving the Vanguard and giving it to Zavala. Blake and James stood just outside the room and watched. When it was over, Saladin walked up to them. "I paid close attention to your combat skills. I believe the Iron Lords will be pleased to have you two in our ranks." Blake looked at James, who was smiling. "We'll think about it. We need to finish our training." James sighed after hearing Blake. "Agreed." Saladin walked off. A warlock rushed into the Hall of Guardians, accidentally hitting James. "Sorry!" Blake and James listened. "Ikora! A report has come in! A raid team has entered the Vault of Glass! Only one ghost is transmitting, the other five are most likely dead!" exclaimed the warlock. James took Blake's arm and dragged him back. "The Vault of Glass is no game! Kabr's team didn't survive. We need to go down there. We need to save that guardian!" Blake thought about it for a moment. "...Yeah! Let's go!" They took off and headed straight for Venus. "Doc, amplify the last ghost's signal. We can at least transmat within a fifty foot radius of its location." said Blake flipping levers activating the jump drive. "I got it Blake, but the Light is fading!" cried Doc as he put the transmat coordinates into the ship's computer. "We are locked on to ghost's signal and we are clear for jump!" shouted James in the comms. After the ten minute flight, the two titans passed through the atmosphere. Their ships circled over the Vault of Glass trying to establish a connection with the new transmat zone! Blake and James materialized outside the triangular door. A metallic clank echoed off of it! Blake and James heard someone yell through the wall. "You bas****!" "James, he's alive!" yelled Blake. The two titans pried the door open! They ran in and shot the Vex! James stood in front of the warlock and pulled out his machine gun! Blake grabbed the warlock, who was bleeding at the knees, stomach, and face! "Hello, I'm Blake, that's James, and we're here to rescue you!" stated Blake in a quick pace. The warlock was losing blood fast! "James come on!" yelled Blake. James slowly backed out of the room and let the door close! Blake cut off a part of the warlock's already burnt and shredded coat. He rapped bandages around both knees and his waste. "Could you tell me who you are? Hey, stay with me! Name and ghost?!" asked Blake trying to keep the warlock alive. "Da.. Daa.... Dako.. ta.. My ghost is... is dam.. aged.." the warlock, Dakota, began shaking as he tried to hold up a ghost. It was an orange shelled ghost with bullet holes in the shell and the core glass was shattered. Blake took the ghost and Dakota passed out. Blake looked to James with concern. "We can't transmat him to our ships..." James summoned his ghost. "Susan, try to transfer the coordinates of the gate to his ghost. The three guardians were transmatted back outside of the vault. James found Dakota's ship and made Susan sync up with it so she could fly it for Dakota. They returned to the Tower where Speaker and Cayde was waiting for them. Blake and James helped Dakota walk. Frames met them and carried Dakota to the E.R. "These were given to you two." said Cayde as he handed them two Gjallarhorns. Both titans admired their new weapon. "Speaker, a kid was brought here recently. Where is he?" asked James. "He is in my office. He is a very traumatized by the events." the Speaker pointed to the north end of the Tower. "I want to give him something..." said James looking at the weapon.
