At 41 I realize I am older than most other gamers, so this may be a generational disconnect.. but man, I just DO NOT GET this need so many of you have to announce stuff.
- If I am bored with a game, I go play another. I don't need to announce it....
- If I don't like a game, do I feel the need to insult people who like it? Nope.. because my ego does not demand that everyone agree with me.. Again, not a special snowflake.
- If I do something well in a video game, do I really need to post that anyone else who hasn't done it sucks? Nope... It's a video game
- If I stop playing a game, does that mean it is dying? Pretty sure they are unconnected.. or WoW would have died a year after it came out, and I am pretty sure it's doing ok. The world does not actually revolve around me. MY world does.. and it stops there.
Tell your family and friends, they care. But internet forums? Why add to the meaningless noise that is already 95% trolls and self-masturbatory/exaggerated nonsense?
Can someone help me understand why people post this stuff? Honestly, the reddit looks more reasonable and mature than this place... That can't be a good sign.
EDIT: I posted this once below but will put it here for all the inevitable "You are complaining about complaining" posts
The sarcastic side of me agrees with you.
But in reality, I have some faint glimmer of hope that starting a rational conversation will encourage people to put more thought into what they post. (A very faint glimmer).

A forum is a social outlet. You may have missed the point. Quit hating on people and their desire to announce their accomplishments because you have none

Children. A bunch of teenagers with phones/computers and access to the internet and bungie.net.

I am to a special snowflake:(

I was playing an old game last night and wow new games are just getting user freindly

I'd rather read these forum posts than the yahoo comments section. Talk about psychopaths... They'll give anyone an Internet these days.

I AM AN AMAZING SNOWFLAKE
-
I never understood why everyone has to announce those things either
-
I know im not special because i use meta guns so shut up

I couldn't agree more Benolan! You and I are the same generation. We are basically veterans of the very first consoles. We knew what truly hard games were like because of technological limitations and seriously buggy design. That along with no internet and YouTube to help us beat a game. Unfortunately, we are seeing the generation of "participation ribbons" becoming the mainstream nowadays. Everyone is made to feel special now without having to truly earn that right. Look at sports for example. Years ago, you only celebrated when you scored a touchdown and typically when your team was winning. Nowadays, a 10 yards catch for a first down while down by 14 seems to be a reason to throw a parade. We are plagued with self-important crybabies who are used to getting their own way and never being told no.
-
You not really complaining your just stating a point that no one wants to hear you complain or brag that you can or can't do something I 100% agree with you
-
Seriously, who cares though? If you don't like it just scroll away. It's not the end of the -blam!-in' world when someone expresses themself online. I'm going to teach you something that'll really help you. It's honestly life changing.
Quit taking people so seriously.
My mother says I'm special

Dude, its the internet, making these rants will definitely not affect anyone else, especially gamers.
-
it might just be a generational disconnect or something but... old people be hatin. ok, i get it, you're old and sad because all the best years of your life are gone, thats no reason to try to ruin the good time of all the people who still have a reason to love life. you're free to go to the retirement community and sit around and talk about how everything was better when you were young and how kids these days dont appreciate anything. all i ask is that you just try to keep your depressing old people posts away from things like video games and music videos with swearing. and dont forget to get that dusty old prostate checked!
-
Because its the internet where mostly no one would care making it the perfect place to vent meaningless frustration about something you may or may not be passionate about.
-
This post is teeming with hypocrisy OP. However, I do agree. It is incredibly exhausting to see "I'm going to new game, all others who don't are gaylord fanboys".
-
But what if I really am a snowflake?
-
It all boils down to maturity. Kids need validation for their actions/accomplishments. Adults, well, we don't give a shit. It's a video game. We play it for entertainment. You think my wife gives a crap about killing Oryx? She would be happier if I gave the dog a bath.
-
I get what you're saying and the sarcastic side of me also says this post is hypocritical af but we're all hypocrites in some way

Edited by DrachenLore: 10/29/2015 3:31:33 PMIm 37 myself and I believe it's actually just a disconnect. I'm not sure how or why but in the last 20 years or so people(teenagers) are very prone to being rude and popping off at the mouth. All the while thinking they are the center of all things. My dad would have beat the shit out of me if I spoke to people the way some of these kids do.
-
Thank you, now of only everyone would read this and see that their opinion is an opinion...
-
I'm 25, quite a bit on the younger end of things, but I agree entirely. My opinion is not Word of God, people like different things and no one on the Internet is going to see me make a '[Game X] Sucks!' thread and think, "Boy, this is some revolutionary shit right here." I don't get it either, Benolan. It baffles me, too.
