Why is the update 18.121 GB? And why is it going to take me 3 hours?

I thought this was a small patch update not something that requires 18 GB of downloading. What is with this?! Edit: Should also mention I am on PS4 if you ignored the picture. Edit 2: Currently at 4gb / 18 gb ; this is not a 500mb quick patch people keep saying it is. I have 100mbps download speed or else I would of gotten this patch done already. Edit 3: [One hour later] Hard Reset & Restored Licenses, but nothing work. Currently almost at 5 gigs of download from this "small update" http://imgur.com/aQoTG1X

Hello all, Thank you for your report of this issue. We are actively investigating why some players on the PlayStation 4 are being required to re-download the full 18 GB patch history. We are also aware that this patch may be showing up as Patch 1.17 on the console instead of Patch 2.0.1, this appears to be the client version of the patch number. We apologize for the inconvenience, but please continue your download. 12:35 PM PDT 10/13/2015 EDIT TO ADD: From player reports, please note the following additional information: • If you are encountering a 'corrupted data' error message, you may want to stop your download, clear your console cache, and then restart the download. • Some players are reporting that while the download says it's a full 18 GB, it actually only downloading today's small patch. This is the expected behavior for PlayStation 4 downloads. However, we are still investigating the reports from some players that they are being required to re-download the full 18 GB. 2:55 PM PDT 10/16/2015 EDIT TO ADD: If you are still encountering an issue with your download, please see the following suggestions: • Start the download from the Downloads queue in the Notifications menu. Please give it time to work through the download process. As noted above, the way the PlayStation 4 handles downloads is slightly different than some players may expect. The download bar may say that is "Preparing to Download" for a while, but as long as progress is being made, please try to continue the download normally. • As noted above, if you encounter the "corrupted data" error message or a console error code during the download, please stop or delete the download, clear your console cache, and then try again. If you encounter the issue again, please contact PlayStation Support. Here is a guide on how to clear your console cache: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/12539 • If progress on the download bar stops, never starts, or otherwise stalls, you may want to try uninstalling Destiny, clearing the console cache, and then reinstalling Destiny. If you encounter the problem again, please contact PlayStation Support.

      • Problem solved !! I am not sure what action did really fixed it but bellow are the steps i followed : 1/ Cancel the update download 2/ Delete the game from the HDD 3/ Go to PSN account => restore licences 4/ Network Setting => make a new automatic setting (i didn't change anything about DNS) 5/ Manage to get 37GB Free space on the HDD (i remember the PS3 did like to have twice the space of a file in order to unpack it and this update is 18GB x2 = 37GB) 6/ power off the console 7/ unplug power cord for a minute in order to clear cache 8/ replug 9/ restart the console 10/ let the disc install the basic 17GB file of the game 11/ at the same time the 1.17 update is starting to download from zero (ie : means i had to download the entire 18GB update) => i let the console in rest mode during the download since i was at work during this step 12/ Back at home, the 1.17 is fully installed and the game is running fine now ! Hope it will help :D

      • I think the way the system does hot fixes is that it compares it to the last update and downloads just the charges.

      • Guys, as mentioned on here, save some time and stop download, delete download, and turn off ps4 for a minute. Then turn your ps4 back on, and it should say "preparing download" in your download screen, or will appear to be frozen at 0%. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Once it has finished prepping, the download should start at 17.8ish out of 18.12.

Does anyone else find it simultaneously sad and hysterical that the playerbase has a better support response than bungie whenever a bug ships?

            • my download started as an 18gig download that took a long time to prepare, i paused and resumed but once the download started it still showed as having to download the full 18 gigs. so i deleted the download and re-started my ps4, this time i used the "check for update" tool by pressing the options button before opening destiny, instead of trying to open the game and having the patch add to downloads automatically. After an even longer time preparing, the download started at 17.6 of 18 gigs. hope that helps you all in solving the issue

            • It is fixed. I had 2gb of 18gb. I deleted the update and restarted my console. It took long to prepare the update then shot up to 17.9gb. The fix really does work as people mentioned

            • My install fixed itself. I left my console overnight in rest mode and went to bed. I had contacted SEN thinking the corrupted data was due my internet getting turned off, but I woke up this morning and saw all the reports and came here for a solution. As I went to try the cache clearance, I saw that it had finished updating itself along with all of my other outstanding downloads. I'm not sure how useful this info will be to other people but if it can help at least one other person then it's worth it. I should point out that I'd already rebuilt the database beforehand but this was several hours beforehand.

                • Don't delete the update but restart your ps4 and then proceed to check your notifications, do not try an open Destiny as that for some reason has made my update slow down considerably. Mine said 3 hours left before I restarted and then went straight to my notifications now it says 10 min

                    • Why is it so damn hard for Bungie to push out patches on PS4? I mean, how many other developers can do this without an issue, yet several times now Bungie's update has forced PS4 users to redownload every.single.f*cking.update. For people with data limits this is absolutely brutal.

                      • It is meant to be a 500mb or so update, but instead of just showing those 500mb it shows all other previous updates and patches combined and then just had an extra 500mb on the end for the new patch. However, it should skip all but the 500mb because you've already downloaded the other 17gb or so, so I'm not sure why yours is downloading everything again.

                        • What fixed it for me is restoring Ps4 license, then going to downloads and pausing the dl (which was already a good portion completed) then unpausing the dl. It then went to "preparing to download" for 10 minutes. When it started downloading again it jumped to 17 gigs completed and took 5 minutes to finish.
