Gearing up at level 40, how to choose the right stuff?

Im almost level 40, and want to start gearing my toon into a true warmarchine ready for everything! So, there a gazillion perks out there, and i was wondering the following: How do you choose the right perks for your class? Example; i know theres an exotic gloves that give a sunbreaker node for free (which to me, seems imba), but there are also other perks that may be interesting? I find it hard to look what i could really use, and i have zero experience with it. This not only counts for exotic armour/weapon combinations, but also for Legendary. Like now, im member of Monarchy (for god knows what reason), but how do you decide that a certain legendary is best for your character to equip ? Most of the perks i see are like, improves scout rifle progression (im using auto rifle?). And then im like, uhh.. ok. Sooooo, tips, tricks? Suggestions? IM OPEN for everything ppl ;\ Minor information: I started the game with a 25 boost, played trough vanilla story now, and just started with dark below story. After that House of wolves and taken king, and then.. we will see. Im level 38, so almost at cap. Cheers

  • Don't worry about perks just yet. It is better to get your light level up first so you'll get better gear. Use gear and weapons with the highest light level and equip better ones as you find them. When decoding engrams, equip the gear that gives you your max LL and decode engrams one at a time. Once you decode and engram, check the LL stat, if it's better, equip it and decode the next one. When you get to the point where you can do the Vanguard strike playlist, run 5 -10 in a row. The longer you stay in the same lobby, the higher the chance for better rewards. Once you get to 260 -280 LL, start running Vanguard heroic strikes and do the same thing. You will start to get more legendary drops and that's the point where you can be selective about the perks. If you find a legendary that has the perks you like but it's LL is lower than what you have equipped, keep it and infuse it with other gear drops to boost it's LL to where you can wear it. This will put you in the upper 280- 290 LL range within a few days. Finally, if you have legendaries that you won't use, don't be afraid to dismantle them, you'll get 3 marks for un-upgraded and 5 for upgraded gear. It's a good way to stock pile marks for infusion or vendor gear.

    • i will give you an advice dont hoard useless legendary gear for your setup, level it up a bit and dismantle. And never infuse gear until you are atleast 290 light, use blue armor and weapons.

    • Level doesn't matter now. Light level do anything. Just do Vanguard Strike without going on Orbit. This will increase the chance of legendary Engram dropped on the next strike.
