Titan Melee

It's fine the way it is

Something needs to be done

I'm indifferent

I've kept quiet about this for a very long time, but I can no longer hold my peace. As far as PvP goes, I find the Titan to be at a disgusting substantial disadvantage compared to the Warlocks and Hunters. But I've learned to deal. What I'm having issue with is the Titan Melee and the "Strength" ability. My success with Titan Melee has been non-existent save for punching a "Dreg" on his last legs when I need a Force Barrier in a tight spot. Other than that, I find it completely and utterly useless. Particularly in PvP when it does not activate unless the Titan kills the guardian with that punch. Don't even get me started on Storm Fist. Yeah, it looks cool when you kill an enemy with a fist emitting lightning as you watch them spiral into "nothing-ness" with electricity smothering them. However, the damage, speed and range of the attack is still wack compared to the the other guardian melees, and the OHK frequency is also null. My thought of a Titan is something of huge intimidating force and strength. IMO, I don't understand how a Warlock or Hunter (This being the most understandable) melee could bring more damage, speed or range than a Titan. But this is my opinion, and I'm sure there are others. I would like to hear them. Should the Titan melee be modified in any way? Why or why not?

I think you are understating the situation. I believe the Titan melee is purely cosmetic and brings no real damage boost to melee. What makes me say this is that I went through the Void Exotic Sword quest as a Titan. As you know, the void Titan is a support class. Therefore, I only had use of my melee and grenade abilities. The quest calls for killing approximately 500 PVE adversaries with void energy. When I would melee enemies I noticed that if I got a body shot on a Cabal target the void melee wouldn’t trigger until my second shot, even if the void melee was available on my power bar. I tried punching the same Cabal targets without the void melee available on my power bar. I noticed that it took two melee attacks to kill the target. That led me to the conclusion that if you hit a target in the body that required two shots normally, the target would still require two shots even if you had your void melee ability ready. Therefore, the void melee has no advantage in combat and is purely cosmetic. The only caveat here is that it is PVE. It may react differently in PVP. However, from my recollection, I think it operates the same way in PVP. Without seeing the actual code, I have no way to categorically substantiate this. However, hopefully if this becomes a big enough issue I hope that Bungie will address this problem.

It's too weak with very low range. No way should Warlock be way better for melee. Silly design.

The video is awesome. And it has definitely somewhat changed my opinion about PvP. The Titan melee? Not so much. I just believe its too weak. As a TITAN, I'm thinking a melee would be strong or would have an advantage over the other classes. The fact that the Hunter and Warlock can OHK, and the Warlock itself can get "Flame Shield" without killing during the melee while the Titan appears to be left out to dry seems a bit ridiculous to me.

Ive become so used to scorch, i mainly use sunsinger for pvp other than trials, its a reflex to shotgun+melee at bladedancers and such. When i play trials with my titan, everytime i get reminded how sucky the titan melee is. Getting the first shot one someone, but just not finishing them off because they are out of melee range, and getting punched to death in return is retarded. Especially since titan seems like the class that would have the best melee (punch everything!). Im fine if it lacks range but the effect is more powerful, but its not. At least the defender overshield should proc on hit, since its range its shorter, its harder to pull off than a scorch, so it wouldnt break anything, would it? I really hope the solar subclass will have a lot better melee attacks.
