Constant disconnecting from xbox live and network errors

Im constantly getting network errors (caterpiller and the like) as well as getting disconnected from xbox live. It sometimes wont happen for a few hours and but other times it happens constantly like every 5 minutes. I know its not my cables or console or stuff like that because when im in other locations my connection is stable. The only difference is where Im at right now I have comcast internet and I remember reading something about comcast having connections problems with destiny. Comcast is less than helpful in this case, they suggest fixes that make it worse and never call back to see if anything changed even when they are the ones saying they will call to check the connection issue. Is there a way to make comcast not constantly disconnect my destiny games? its gets really annoying having to spend 2 hours on a mission because my connection wont stay long enough to complete the mission.

Everything you said about what effects your connection makes sense. Which is why my connection issue is even more perplexing. Ive run destiny on 2 different connections. The first one is the one im having issues with. ISP comcast. speed 100mbps down not sure about up but enough for at least 1 MB per second upload. connection: ethernet cable straight to the router. stability: awful, disconnecting and network errors at all hours of the day. but only on destiny just sitting in a party at the home screen or on other games doesnt seem to present any problems. The other connection ive used. ISP century link speed 7mpbs down .75 up (on a good day) connection ethernet cable straight to router (same cable as above) stability is great, no drops, minimal lagging, slightly higher latency due to satelite internet. (2 people playing destiny at once both using xbox live party system, as for the comcast connection im the only one using it). so the thing is im using the same cables same console, same game disk on a connection that has almost no bandwidth and that one runs 2 people on destiny flawlessly. here im on a 100mpbs comcast connection and on average i lose connection every 10-15 minutes sometimes as bad as 2-3 minutes. On the century link connection I have done nothing to make it work just plug everything in and it runs perfectly. on the comcast connection in order to try and resolve the previously stated issues ive: 1. port forwarded all the ports that destiny uses (according to bungie) 2. set my routers firewall to low security. (the century link one is moderate or high) 3. set up port triggering. 4. set a static ip address on my console 5. set a static ip on my console through my router. 6. put my consoles static IP address in the DMZ (allows device on that ip address to open all ports) despite all those things on the comcast connection I still get disconnected frequently and get network errors mainly caterpiller frequently and at all hours of the day. so all those changes have done nothing to make it better. Ive even had comcast "recalibrate my router" whatever that means and that didnt do anything either, if anything it made it worse. to the other people having this issue what IPS do you have? and what country are you living in?

  • Ok amigos. Lets see if i can explain this... we all know theres a server(s) right? But what most people dont know that its just a game save server that requires constant connection. Disconnects are not only from bandwidth issues BUT WRITING issues(saving). Every cause and effect is written and read on the server. Thats the simple overview. As for multiplayer its about the same but it gets difficult with the extreme use a lag switching. Some disconnects across platforms are most noticable around the daily reset period. Such as from 0345 to 0545 EST. As for what causes this, I am pretty sure yet again its the server reseting and updating things for the new day and it causrs issue for a lot of people. Even people with great connections. As for causes to disconnects can be narrowed down to a few things: Low to below marginal bandwidth Bad router settings Unreliable isp connection(cellphone) Public wifi(asking for trouble) 3rd party wifi Crappy ISPs... Now to start with the 3rd party wifi. Simply put, if you have ALL of your setting for open nat 3, thats great but later down the road for your traffic to get to where its going, its going through one or more servers/firewalls. Those servers/firewalls can restrict necessary or preferred ports to be open whoch can restrict banwidth even more... Unreliable isp connections... sigh* people that do this are tenatious and i respect that but going through even a 4G LTE hotspot from a phone is gonna be obviously more unreliable than even being at the edge of a wifis transponder range. Theres a lot more to go wrong with cellphone transmitions than wifi. People that try to play and dont know your bandwidth are obviously ignorant but ignorance is bliss sometimes. But not in this case. Dont know then go to speedtest.net and find out for free. I know theres situations and circumstances but i am not condeming people from trying either. This is pretty simple and maybe half to three quarters on what i have somwwhat figured out to be online gaming issues. I try to be as matter of fact as possible but somebpeople say that it sounds really smug and arrogant but i assure i just try to put decent to good it info out. Ps for dealing with lag switches, thats a whole other wall of text :D

    • Im sure somebody knows about this and whats causing it. I just tried playing for an hour and got disconnected from live 5 times and got kicked off due to network problems 8 times. Twice my xbox locked up on me and I had to pull the power chord to get back on. This is with comcast blast internet 100mpbs down where conversely when im at home with centurylink 7mbps I have a steady connection that I can play for 4-5 hours and not have a single connection problem ever.

    • I am getting the same errors...I tried port forwarding but Strict Nat'd myself and then took it off and enabled Pnp on the router which helped with communication issues but now Caterpillar error is rampant, Disconnects me from XBOX live frequently as well. I am not sure what to do either. I wonder if Destiny is more stable on Playstation 4? I never had any issues playing online like I do on destiny. Were you able to get any help?
