[Story] Dig In: The Jericho VII Conflict -- Final Edition (COMPLETE)

Eric Nylund's Fall of Reach touched briefly on the Jericho VII conflict, but it did not bring to life the struggle of the average Marine. With its original release four years ago, Dig In: The Jericho VII Conflict brought you down into the trenches in an all-out battle for survival against the numerically-superior Covenant. Dig In told the story of a squad of regular Marines struggling to fulfill their duty in the face of death. It told a mature story. It told a story no one had ever read before. This is the final edition of this story. It is the best version to date and posted in time to get caught up before you read the sequel, Entrenched. Entrenched will be my final work. With that in mind, I hope to share this series of stories with as many people as possible.
Dear Reader, I began writing fan fiction stories back on the Halo 2 forum in the first days of Halo fan fiction six years ago. After a long hiatus, I started writing this story four years ago. I finished the first four chapters and entered a contest in which I came second place on a now defunct Halo website. With Halo 2 having passed and Halo 3 far on the horizon, I stopped. Two years ago I revisited this story and finished it by adding another six chapters. I released the story on the forum and in private groups to praise and positive response. Now, two years later and in advance of the coming sequel, I present to you the final edition of this story. I have gone through the entire piece to make edits and to prepare for you the final and best edition yet. As always, I would like to thank all of my readers over the past six years. Thank you for your support and your enthusiasm. It is much appreciated in every way. Your maps, machinima projects, and comments never cease to amaze me. Thank you and I hope you have enjoyed following Tom and the squad through thick and thin. I'd especially like to thank Halopedia and Halo.Bungie.Org for their great resources. That being said, I still couldn't have done it without the support of the members of Mjolnir Battle Tactics, and the members of the fan fiction community--wherever they may be now. I hope you all enjoy the story and look forward to the sequel, Entrenched, available now in Mjolnir Battle Tactics and on this forum. Enjoy, Papa John

DIG IN: The Jericho VII Conflict
July 23, 2010. Final Edition. • I'm not sure what you're asking Stephen. If we're talking length of the story, 25 000 words. If we're talking how long it took to write, probably a solid few months if packed together. It was an on-and-off project of two years that I finished in 2008 and just re-edited now. Oh, and to any moderator, please move this to the gallery. It completely slipped my mind. (And if you don't mind, can you erase Stephen's post of "Oh my" from the middle of my story?) Thanks! Papa John [Edited on 07.23.2010 3:53 PM PDT]
