What I learned after resetting my main char, after half a year of playing...

So yeah. Out of pure cosmetic reasons ( my Lock was an Exo, and the concept of a machine space wizard didn´t fit) I deleted my very first char (putting everything worthy in the vault, of course) and started my Space Wizardry adventures again, this time as an Awoken (A.K.A. Space Elves). This is what I realize after "starting" the game after playing since day.. ok, 3. - Cutscenes: DeeJ, Bungie has to implement a "skip cutscene" option at some point. I get how good they can be for developing the plot and showing how shiny and well designed, from a graphics perspective, the game can be. But for those of us who want to test new paths, create alt chars... or heck, for those times when the daily mission is the Black Garden, seeing the same scene completely kills the mood. Dozens of games let the players skip the cutscenes, so, why not Destiny? - The little changes since official launch: I honestly have to give Bungie props for some small but noticeable changes. For example, now I can choose from day 1 what subclass I want to run as, or even switch from one to another as I want to, not at lvl 15 or whatever when I "unlock" it. Thanks for this! Also, now we can have 10 bounties at a time, instead of the original 5 (which again, is amazing!), which leads me to... - Bounties: Oh, how I wish I had payed more attention to them in my first weeks. Leveling up the character, abilities and weapons is way easier. I haven´t put more than 6 hours into the new guy and he´s 18 already. - The earliest gameplay is thrilling... but never again: The earliest missions like the tutorial ones, with Vandals and Dregs coming out of ambush from unexpected corners while the music goes louder... that first wave of Thralls we encounter... But we never get that sort of tension and sense of fighting for our lafe ever again in the game, except for some sections of the raids. More sections like these could be great. - Customization: Running through the game again, I´ve equipped pieces of armor that I´ve honestly liked much, MUCH more than the end-game pieces. And how I wish that we culd change the visuals on different pieces of armor to have an unique, personalized style. I remember plating DCUO before Destiny launched and I took some pride in having a visual style that no one else in the game had. In Destiny we all look the same. DeeJ, wouldn´t it be possible to collect skins by dismantling other pieces, so we could attain max levels but still be able to look somehow different? Man, I´m storing some pieces in hope that this happens someday... - A wider tutorial needed?: So the basics of combat are pretty clear. But what about Motes of Light? R&D Materials? I remember first going through the game and getting some Spinmetal and completely forgetting about it, because there were no indications that it would ever come in handy. Or what about Factions? The game could have invited us to "take a tour through the tower" to visit them, the Quartermasters etc... - Different enemies need different combat mechanics: So a regular Captain has the same combat mechanics as an Archon Priest? Valus Ta´Aurc is just a beefed up Goliath? The dreadful Ir Yut, the Deathsinger, mistress of Oblivion and Harvester of Souls.... is just a Wizard with Blue shields? Bungie, c´mon. Put some effort into the meanies. Especially with upcoming DLC´s. OK, I´m gonna put an end to this now. Now, I know that you receive dozens of complaints a day, and that´s why I´ve tried to tone it down. Of course we, the playersd, might have little to no idea about how much development work some things take. However, Bungie needs to consider this: Many of us are burnt out. The endless repetition is taking the magic of the game away. Events like Iron Banner have failed to freshen the game (especially since, again, we hardly had any new bounties). Whatever Bungie does in the next 3-4 months, is going to determine how many of us stay playing this game. YOUR game. And if House of Wolves stays as short of content and novelty as Dark Below was... well, there won´t be many of us left after summer.

  • It was only your first character that you had to wait til 15 to unlock the other subclass. Your next 2 let you switch right away. Every character you delete and remake is open to choose as well.

    • Your post was good until your last part. What's with the threats of leaving if they dont make changes you want? Players trip me out with that like they are the only players on the game and that they will be that missed. There are millions of players on this game with people leaving/joining all the time, so i highly doubted you'll be missed. Also, the comment about being burnt out is comical. Being burnt out has nothing to do with content or lack there of, repetitiveness, etc.; it's all about time. If you've played this game since launch, of course you're gonna be burnt out cause you've put so many hours into it. If you were burnt out from repetitive missions or lack of content, you wouldve stopped a long time ago. Like i said: good post for the most part, just no need for the empty threats and change demands.

    • They lost me at "Destiny 2". There's no reason to come out with a SECOND game - they should be building upon the first, expansion style. Why obsolete all the content we have now in lieu of a new game? Thanks Activi$ion!

        Just responding to this part:
- The little changes since official launch: I honestly have to give Bungie props for some small but noticeable changes.
Just for your information, this was not a change. Since launch, if you already have a level 20 character on the account, your new characters can choose any subclass they want immediately. Just a interesting tidbit a lot of folks fail to notice. :-)

        • : ) I have no Expectation of bungie making this game worth playing after their first dlc and the lack of content, events worth playing, and patches of day one glitches. I guess it will be another 10 years before I buy anything from them and start a new Series. Hopefully they learn from Destiny. ha, this account will be 20 years old by then. <dont bother getting snarking trying to reply to me. it will be a month before i log in again. :3> Destiny has shown that Solid Gunplay and Art Design can mean very little when there is poor story tellings, repetitive uninteresting unrewarding missions, fighting predictable copy paste enemies, where all rewards are luck based and nothing feels earned. On top of that, Laggy missions and Ten Tons of Network instability even on the best connection. Just not a good combination for a fulfilling gaming experience.

                • You can start with any subclass if you have had at least one character reach lvl 15

                • Couldn't agree more with all points as well as a few your OP didn't cover. Myself and my usual crew are just getting burned. We all have 32's... all but one of us has 2 chars at level 32 and there's literally nothing to do for those characters, except level up a few weapons. We're sitting on the capped 200 Vanguard marks with nothing to spend them on. All but one of us has well over 200 shards and well over 150 energy. If it weren't for leveling weapons, I'd have a lot more energy. The same goes for strange coins. In the odd circumstance Xur actually has something for sale that I don't have and really want, I don't even bother to check and see if I have enough strange coins. I already know I have enough. There is simply no place to spend a single thing we can spend in the game, with the exception of the occasional glimmer and few energy(ies) required to upgrade weapons and the Xur example I mentioned. Just wanted to add that to OP's list... not that I expect much to change. JMO, but for the 3 people I play Destiny with most... If Neverwinter is as good as we're hoping, HoW will have to be absolutely jaw dropping to bring us back. If Dark Below is any indicator, you'll need a lot more than good luck with that. That is less than a week off. Just speaking for myself and for the impression I get from [most of] the friends I play Destiny with now, if we really like Neverwinter, they'd have to release Destiny 2 in the next 3-4 months to get our attention.

                  • I have been playing since day 1 and had only 1 character (a warlock) until January. I decided to start another one (a hunter)and was shocked at how different it was to do these missions again. You have no hitting power and can't take any damage either. It was fun the 1st time through to buy dozens of weapons from the Gunsmith and constantly upgrading armor but it kinda sucked doing it again. That being said there should be a more streamlined process to creating additional characters. It took me about 14 hours to get to level 20 and a bunch more to finally get to level 32. It was such a hassle that when I decided to make a 3rd character I went with another warlock so I did not have to grind to get all the gear. I just passed the new one all of the hand me downs from my first warlock when he got to level 20. It would be interesting if there were different options (paths) to take when redoing missions that would change things up but I don't see that ever happening.

                    • Great post. But as sad as it is I think the nail is already in Destiny's coffin. Bingie clearly have the attitude that you will play the way they want you to. I am burnt out too, the repitition is just mind numbing. Bloodborne is out friday .. See you for HOW Destiny.

                    • If you unlocked the subclass before on another class or character by reaching level 15, you can automatically choose your subclass when you start a new character or class. Bungie did not change anything.

                    • I'm pretty certain cutscenes will never be skippable, because they are using them to artificially increase the time players stay in destiny, so they can report longer play times as proof of success. Customization, Deej has already said transmog is unlikely (despite being one of the most asked for things in the community). I miss the halo days when you increased difficulty and the enemies actually changed how they attacked and everything. Now they just put modifiers on the same behavior. I doubt this will change either. Destiny seems to have gone for a really crummy manipulating the numbers and profit centric design IMO. I hope they decide to listen to people like you and others who would prefer to enjoy their game instead of ultimately leave it behind for other games that are forthcoming.

                      • HoW will be make or break for me and I am certain a lot of players feel the same. Since Halo 5 is coming out I feel a lot of competitive PvP players will leave destiny for H5 multiplayer a much more skill based and skill reward Centric game type.

                      • The initial leveling system is fantastic. There are far more guns to try. You also interact more with the NPCs. After doing some missions, you are guaranteed a reward you can choose. The Light system is limiting. The materials, the economies and the drop rate become a barrier to try different stuff. There's no sense of progression. Maybe a few ideas from the first 20 levels should be brought to the endgame.

                      • I totally feel your early game more dramatic than the rest point. I've restarted a character myself and did the satellite array mission, at the end where you are holed up in the computer room and the hive tombships appear and that music kicks in, felt amazing and gave me shivers the first time I played it. But that feeling isn't there on later missions, and it starts to become more like go to point A then sparrow to point B then horde mode. Your right about the cinematics too, why do we have to watch the end scene again when it's a daily heroic? We have obviously seen it before and as grateful as I am for them making an end scene (as short as it is) we don't really need to sit through it for the 15th time. Some games give the option to skip scenes you have already watched it once, so maybe that could be the way forward
