Aesthetic before Statistic

Okay, so its no secret that a large majority of current high level players have all the same armor, the raid armor. If i remember correctly one of the big things pre-launch (oh yeah, all that time ago) was that you could build your guardian however you like. And while that's still true, it is impossible to have a high level, well functioning character without wearing all raid (+ an exotic, maybe). So here we have all the guardians dressed in Crota loot, with different shaders being their only outlet for individuality. Now imagine this. Your guardian wearing that armor from when you were, say, lvl 18 (don't cringe) and you feel special, even though you weren't as good as you are at 32. I feel like it would give more singularity to every guardian if they had an option to imbue older armor with higher light stats. It would give guardians more options to make themselves look as badass as they can be, and still be, and feel individual, but also be that high level they are hoping for. Another option is Transmog, a topic critically under-debated on these forms, but an interesting one no less. For anyone who doesn't know, its basically giving one piece of armor, the appearance of another. Like, lets say you love the stats of deathsingers gaze, but you don't like the design. Lets say you prefer the look of like, Locust Watcher I. Transmog would give the in game appearance of Locust Watcher, to deathsingers gaze, while retaining the general statistics and item info, followed by a little notifier tht its been transmogged. Transmogrification wouldn't be free, so maybe another use for the strange coins we aren't spending, or the motes of lights we also aren't spending. I guess im just curious, what do you guys think? should this even be mildly important? or should everyone have the same armor to keep the high level stats?

  • This video explains what I think would be the best solution to our clone problems. It's certainly worth taking a gander at.

    • I posted a very similar solution https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/106687107/0/0

    • It's not important in comparison to some things that need ALL hands on... But I think this may be another one of their half assed fixes, whenever they do get around to it. It will probably only be accessible through our phones, because in game features are too costly for the half a billion dollar budget

    • They could do it like Terraria with the armor that appears visually in a second slot beside your armor maybe on the inside of the menu and still have the high level gear equipped

    • 32 is only important inside the raid. Outside who cares, the highest level activity is 30. I run at 31 for everything but the Crota Raid. Vog helm, VoG/Iron Banner gauntlets, Crota Boots. Voidfang Vestments/HOPF The ability to customize is there, people just wrongly feel the need to sit at 32 outside of the raid. You don't get any extra damage on level 30 enemies and the extra defence is miniscule at best. I perform fine in everything and usually carry in every activity I do, yet I rarely if ever see warlocks with VoG helms or VoG gauntlets equipped. So id say I'm pretty unique. Should there be more customization yes, but I'll never understand why people think the corresponding raid gear shouldn't be what you should wear during that raid. The perks are built around the raid so of course everyone looks the same inside. Once you realize You only need to be 30 outside the raid. You'll rarely look like another guardian again. You don't have to always be the highest light level possible, there's no real advantage to it.

    • Plenty of games have an "appearence slot" for different pieces of armor. It would be nice if Destiny did also. That way you could maintain the current progression level and also be able to mix and match appearences to your heart's content.

      • Highly variable weapon and armor stats. Like Diablo 2. Perfect gear vs near perfect gear. We might actually see different things used this way

      • Light level should come from motes of light and apply to the character. And only use armor for its perks/defense boosts but making it perfectly feasible to wear any armor you want for aesthetics. Of course they'd have to make motes harder to obtain, and ONLY obtained thru xp, not also as a random reward. Some of the coolest armor in game(for warlocks at least) was around lvl 7-15ish. Then started going towards the one legendary look when close to 20. What dumbass came up with the current system?
