Dredgen Yor’s Last Words (Fanfiction)

Disclaimer:
This probably does not match the existing lore, as I am not well versed in it, and until recently I had pictured Dredgen Yor as a Warlock, and had no idea his final battle had been said to take place at Dwindler’s Ridge. I considered adjusting it, and I may at some point, but that would change it so much that I will just post it as is for now. This is just a story that formed in my mind after reading the description of Last Word and wondering what situation could have led to this quote: "Yours…not mine." - Renegade Hunter Shin Malphur to Dredgen Yor”
Hellmouth. High noon. Dredgen Yor stands at the edge, admiring its dark beauty as two of his Hive Knights stand guard. His thoughts are interrupted by the sound of the knights’ heads exploding, followed by a cry from a nearby hill… --“YOR!!!!! You Die TODAY!!” With a chuckle and an eye roll, Yor slowly turns to watch as a young Hunter in comes storming down the hill. His gear and cape look very official, as if they were brand-new about five years ago. As he runs he loads a new round into his golden Tex Mechanica revolver, and with a shout he hurls his throwing knife straight for Yor’s head. It makes a shivering sound as it spins through the air, but Yor watches calming before gracefully snatching the blade out of the air. The hunter stops dead in his tracks, shocked by the sight of this feat from a warlock. Yor then playfully spins the hunter’s blade around his finger by its strap as he unholsters his handcannon, the “Thorn”, and chuckles… Dredgen Yor – “How many of you little dicks am I going to have to kill before you see that you cannot burn the Darkness with a cigarette lighter? By the way, how high IS the bounty on my head? Have I passed 100,000 glimmer yet?” Hunter – “150,000, actually…” Dredgen Yor—“Hmm, I’m doing better than I thought. Shall we try for 200,000?” With that he lets the hunter’s blade fly from his finger and quickly fires his Thorn straight for the hunter’s head. To his surprise, the hunter had the instinct to dodge, and turned out to be more capable that he realized. The fighting that followed was a blur that seemed to drag on for hours, like a never ending ballet composed by a madman. Yor would Nova Bomb the hunter, but he would blink out of the way. The hunter would try to rapid fire his revolver, but Yor would casually block him with the Knights’ Darkness shield ability…. The hunter had talent and perseverance, but he could not hold out to Yor’s endurance and years of experience. In a last, desperate attack, he leapt at Yor with his knife in an overhead cleave, but Yor just blasted him right in the stomach with his Thorn. The shock sent the hunter flying, with his golden revolver going one way and his knife flying the other. Unarmed, exhausted, and nearly dead, he started crawling backwards away from Yor in terror, but only got a few feet before he found his head and shoulders hanging above the edge of the Hellmouth… With a chuckle, Dredgen Yor walked slowly, arrogantly towards the wounded hunter, spinning his Thorn around his hand, monologing… Dredgen Yor—“Over the years, I’ve come to fancy last words. Heard so many of them, it has almost become a hobby of mine. Something to think about way out here in the cold. ‘…Tell my wife I love her’, ‘…you won’t get away with this…’ are a few of my favorites, among a LOT of expletives I don’t care to repeat…” Dredgen Yor steps on the hunter’s chest, kneeling down look him in the face, with his hand resting on his knee, gingerly holding his Thorn: Dredgen Yor—“What about you? Do you have any last words for my collection?” Hunter—“Yes…yes I do, actually--” Without any indication, the hunter abruptly blink-teleports out from under Yor, and in one fluid motion the he scoops up his golden revolver, swings around his cape, and opens fire. The camera watches as the hunter lets out a yell as he fans the hammer rifleman style, then cuts to a stunned Yor taking all eight rounds in the chest. There is a long pause as the two stand frozen in place, but then Yor starts to chuckle. And the chuckle turns to laughter, and as his strength leaves him he stretches out his arms, laughing like a loonatic. He lets himself fall backwards into the Hellmouth. As he disappears into the green mist, the sound of his laughter can still be heard as it echoes off the walls of the hellmouth, and seems to come from everywhere at once. The hunter, in a daze, walks slowly to the edge, as if to make sure he was not imagining this. The camera switches to first person from the hunter’s perspective as he stares in disbelief at his golden, Tex Mechanica revolver, as smoke still waifs from the barrel. The gun that killed a legend. The gun that killed a fiend. He glances at the green mist of hellmouth, and the camera cuts to a close up as he mutters: Hunter— “--Yours…not mine.” The hunter turns and pulls his hood over his head as he slowly walks away from the edge (and the camera) as the view fades to black. All that can be heard is the soft echo of Dredgen Yor’s laughter…
