But Now I Am Free, There Is No Light In Me...

Part 1 of Broken Machine ---> http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/90674397/0/0/1 Part 2 of Broken Machine ---> http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/91444511/0/0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Below is a collection of entries from the microchip diary of an Exo Guardian. The diary was found in the Speaker's workroom on a stool, in the possession of a crushed, dying Ghost. Entry 1 I remember nothing of my past, where I came from, what I'm doing here, or why I was chosen. What I do know is that my Ghost saved me. He is my companion, my friend, my guide. I will serve the Light for as long as I can. Entry 7 I wandered the land for a couple of hours, searching for things to help the City. And then I came across a large structure. The ground outside was flat and barren for miles, almost dead, which I didn't notice before. As I entered, my Ghost whispered to me in a weak voice "We should leave." Inside was just a large vault like room. As I scanned the room something caught my eye. There in the centre of the vault, floating effortlessly, was a bright white cube. I was drawn to it and so I walked closer. My Ghost was panicking and terrified, zooming in front of me. He wasn't whispering but shouting, screaming to me "We need to leave now!" I moved him aside and continued moving towards the cube, the closer I got the brighter it shone, its white light spreading across the room. I could still sense my Ghost panic, he was all over the place trying to get my attention. I was now mere inches away from the cube. I held out my hand and grasped it. I could feel its power, its energy feeding me. I felt alive. But then the cube gave off a discordant and thunderous unnerving shrieking, like feedback. Then there was a huge burst of pain through my arm that held the cube. As if some final trial, the cube blazed brightly with a blood red flame, its white light completely gone. I could feel its heat. Images of death and destruction flashed and I saw a Guardian with blazing eyes standing on a huge wall. But I would not let go. Then it ended. The sound was gone, so was the pain and the red blazing light. There was only me, the cube and my Ghost, frozen stiff with fright. With the cube in hand, we left the vault. As we were returning to the Tower, my Ghost told me "We need to tell the Speaker." Entry 8 I'm starting to remember my past. Sections of my memory, previously irreparable, are now coming back. My understanding has become enhanced. I know things the Cryptarchs don't know, maybe even the Speaker. My Ghost has become more wary of the cube, he thinks I am bound to it merely because I keep it with me at all times. Power like this should not fall into the wrong hands, why doesn't he understand that? He keeps telling me to tell the Speaker of what happened, and to give the cube to the Vanguard to destroy. Maybe after I learn more. Entry 9 I hear...a voice. A man's voice. Coming from the cube...he...tells me I have done well. That's good, I've done well. I passed his test, apparently...others haven't. He says I'm better than all of them. He wishes his followers to be as powerful as me. He promises to tell me everything I want to know, and will grant me power no one has. The cube is his, but he has given to me, for I have earned it dearly. Entry 10 The voice...I trust him. I have faith in him. He tells me that my Ghost will betray me, that the Light will betray me, that the Speaker and the Vanguard lie to me, and that the Traveller laughs at me. I hope he's wrong, for their sakes. Entry 11 My Ghost must think himself above me. He tells me to immediately give the cube to the Vanguard and the Speaker and to seek help. Help? HELP?! This little insignificant spec has the audacity to insult me? He better learn his place, or I will show it to him. The voice laughs from the cube, he is pleased that I'm realising the truth about everything. Entry 12 He told the Speaker...the voice told me he would betray me...I will destroy this puppet of the Light, I will strangle him with his own strings.... Entry 13 It Cannot Be Seen...It Cannot Be Felt...It Cannot Be Heard...It Cannot Be Smelt...It Comes First...It Follows After...It Ends Life...It Kills Laughter...When You See The Sun Fall...And See A Figure On Your Wall...The Truth Will Hit You Hard...For I Am Its Vanguard...I Used To Be A Slave...Made To Kill Those Who Misbehave...But Now I Am Free...There Is No Light In Me...
