The thread to end all threads on improving the crucible

Hello Guardians, I see and read many threads here with fellow guardians offering their input on the crucible. The topics range from the all too common request for nerfs, to great game mode ideas, to plain old whining and bashing. In this thread I am going to try to list a few of the main deterrents players face when they are deciding if they want to play crucible and if they are really enjoying it when they do. I am also going to try and offer some insight and suggestions that might help fix these, at least what I and a great deal of other guardians believe, biggest problems. So lets get to it! 1. Secondary Weapons I see many posts of these "elite" players calling for the nerf of fusion rifles, shotguns, and oddly enough I have seen it for the sniper as well. These weapons are meant to be as powerful as they are. They are supposed to be better in certain situations than your primary. The problem in PVP is that the ammo for secondary weapons is overly abundant. You can go an entire game with a fusion rifle or shotgun, and render most primaries in most situations useless. The solution to this is not to nerf these weapons, but limit their availability. This means spawning with less ammo for these weapons to start the match, and the special ammo being less readily available on the maps for pickup. This makes it difficult for players to run around using a fusion rifle the entire game, but allows it to be as effective and powerful, as it is meant to be! 2. Balancing primary weapon types AKA addressing the "NERF THE SUROS, VEX, THORN" issues I see posted at the time. To be honest I am kind of torn on this issue. These happen to be the most efficient primaries. Now, when I make this statement, I am considering all things equal in a perfectly simulated environment. The time to kill with perfect accuracy with these weapons tend to rank the highest among other weapons, and their perks add to their effectiveness. I understand you can kill players using these weapons with your shadow price or TDYK. My point is that regardless of that, these other weapons have a undeniable measurable advantage. Now you might say that these weapons deserve to be better than others because they are exotic or harder to earn ( I am looking at you Thorn). Here is my counter argument. NO GUN DESERVES TO BE VASTLY SUPERIOR TO OTHERS IN PVP. NO GUN DESERVES TO BE GAME BREAKING BECAUSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO EARN. Save that argument for PVE, but that logic does not belong in PVP. Maybe that might fly in the iron banner taking stats actually matter, and it is an arena to show off your gear and power, but I am talking strictly the crucible. Phew. Now that I got that off my chest the only gun I truly believe still needs a bit of tinkering is the Vex. Yes it has been nerfed once, but it was truly game breaking at that time. The only reason i feel it isn't looked at with as much scrutiny is because of fusion rifles and shotguns masking it's power. A regular fusion rifle can one shot someone at short to medium range, so you might think its a counter to the vex, when it really is a problem in of itself. If that problem is fixed with an idea such as the suggestion in point #1., I feel the vex would be a bit too powerful without enough to counter it. My suggestion is a bit more tinkering with this gun and maybe a few others. Now I do not mean nerf it's damage and effectiveness into oblivion. The vex is designed to be a powerhouse, but at what cost? There really isn't any except range, which it still has plenty of it. I believe lowering the range and stability of this weapon would be adequate. Learn to tame the recoil like a skilled guardian and reap the benefits of this monster. That is my argument for any and all future weapons deemed "op" in the crucible. Add some stability and range limitations, making them high risk high reward weapons. They need a learning curve, but they should still be extremely effective in a seasoned guardians hand. 2b. Pulse rifles Are these guns even worth using? They seem to get lost, as auto rifles, hand cannons, and scout rifles all perform better in those respective ranges. So where does that leave fusion rifles? Now don't get me wrong, there are some decent pulse rifles and you can use them and do well, it's just that they have no distinct advantages over any other weapon type at any range. They require as much timing and aim as a scout rifle to be effective but are outclassed by them at long range. You can put a lot of bullets on someone in short to medium range, but an auto rifle is more effective doing this. Maybe this gun type is meant to be a jack of all trades, master of none? It handles range better than assault rifles... But only slightly. It handles up close and personal gun fights slightly better than scout rifles, but still only barely. It is not justifiable to use it over a SUROS, Shadow Price, VoC or good hand cannon. If you want true and full diversity, this gun type needs a defined role that makes it a viable decision over the other gun types in certain situations. It is a high risk, low reward weapon as is. 3. Game types and play lists Currently, there are no real objective based game types. Control is team death match with point modifying zones. Skirmish is death match. Clash is death match. Rumble is death match. There is not much variety in gameplay, just how many players are on your team. The only real objective game type is salvage, which is not even an option half of the time. This is a game from bungie. Creator of the halo series. With so many awesome game modes. What happened to all of them? Hopefully in the future they are added in, but it is a huge let down for there not to be even a CTF or king of the hill type game mode. We want more objective based game modes, and we want the different playlists permanent. I know it is being addressed in a future event, but we also want a more hardcore/competitive playlist. We want it to be permanent as well. This way, the more competitive players can have their own arenas to duke it out without all the things that we complain about on the forums. This included having no radar, no supers, enhanced competitive rules. It does not effect anyone but the players who choose to play it, so why not? 4. Custom games It still baffles me that Bungie had this awesome game with so many different choices and elements, but no custom games/rooms to explore them! Seriously, I will use another Bungie game again as an example, Halo. Currently there is no way to play AGAINST your friends. I have always loved booting up a room with a good deal of friends and just having a blast with them. There was so many different things you could do with your friends in a controlled custom environment that was fun. This ranged from some good old competition with your friends, to imaginative mini games ... Racing anyone? For the competitive community it is essential for clan matches. There is really no argument against not having it because if you don't want to partake in it, you do bot have to. I can't think of any modern shooters that do not have this option. It is almost a step back technologically and feature wise in this day and age not to include custom games. With these ideas and suggestions, I think the Crucible could be more fun, diverse, balanced, and overall more entertaining for a broader audience, all while also creating deeper niche communities. I am just a fellow guardian, so maybe these aren't the right ideas. So post your input in this thread as well!
