Destiny is all about the guns. Killing enemies with fun to use guns. That's what we all do here.
The idea of making Gunsmith more useful than just an ammo synthesis dealer has been suggested by many in here before. Most can agree, it seems, that gunsmith (and even the other weapons vendors (crucible and Vanguard) need to play a bigger role in the game to give the game depth and character.
What if Gunsmith also gave out specific bounties... Collect this, get this, kill X using X weapon... Like the patrols in a way... And as we complete his tasks, we rank up with him as well. Higher rank gives us ability to buy gun smithing perks (shards/crystals/ whatever) which can then be used to mod our weapons. And each gun would maybe have its own rank, meaning the more it is used during his bounties, the higher rank it achieves with him. Obviously limit what can be done to each gun to keep it fair, but perhaps be able to swap out small perks like "more stability after making precision kills" for "last shot in magazine gives bonus damage" or "iridium core rounds over penetrate targets"... stuff like that. Or be able to modify scopes or even mag size to a degree. Or swap solar damage for void or arc... And he sells the modification crystals/shards that allow this to happen (kind of like Eris with her Murmur and husk of the pit guns), more advanced perk options only available as rank increases.
But these could be done to any gun, making it possible to gradually fine tune even a green (uncommon) gun all the way up to a purple (legendary). That way our weapons also have a "legend" that we can build upon.
Apply this concept to the outfitters as well and then we can begin to start crafting helmets and armor too.
Destiny is an rpg fps right? Crafting makes it truly rpg. Seems like this would add interest and depth to the idea of becoming Legend.
