I want to start out by saying that I thoroughly enjoy Destiny as a game. But, it seems as though there is a vocal portion of the internet that has created an anti-hype train for Destiny. This negative sentiment is also reflected somewhat in the Metacritic score for Destiny (PS4: 76, Xbox One: 75). Criticisms of Destiny include "a lack of content", "a lackluster story", and "repetitive gameplay". In my opinion, Destiny offers exceptional shooting mechanics, above average PVP, an average story, and a raid experience that I haven't had in any other console game I've played. The graphics are also the best graphics of any console game that I've seen (superb art, great level design, 1080p, 30fps) Yet, I look at another popular FPS. I'm going to pick on Battlefield 4, though there are surely other examples. BF4 gets metacritic scores of 85 (PS4) and 81 (Xbox One), and is largely heralded as the better alternative to COD. Comparing BF4 to some of the Destiny criticisms, it seems like something just doesn't add up. What does BF4 have that Destiny is lacking, and how does BF4 transcend the criticisms mentioned above for Destiny. So what's going on here with the anti-hype train? Is the review process flawed? Just looking for thoughts here, I can't figure it out.
