The Misadventures of Captain MacMillan (A Joint Fan-Fiction)

Hey, y'all. As the title suggests, this story is based around Captain MacMillan, who is "famous" for his role in Call of Duty 4. It is, however, largely focused on the Halo universe as well. This fan-fiction is going to be written by both myself and Uberdawg, who will likely have the first chapter up tonight. This prologue is simply a backstory for MacMillan. 'tis here: The Misadventures of Captain MacMillan Prologue Who is Captain MacMillan? Where did he come from? How did his mere existence lead two Xbox Live gamers to write a piece of literature based around him? Those first two will be answered as we progress through this prologue. That third one- well, it’s not like we really had a choice. It’s Captain MacMillan! Rumour once had it that MacMillan descended from Hercules (as were the Spartans of the Battle of Thermopylae, coincidentally). Others speculated that the man just simply created himself. However, after careful, scientific deduction, it has been proven that Captain MacMillan originated from radiated dog feces. And that does not make him any less human than the rest of us. Probably more so, come to think of it. During his early years (if that's what you want to call them), MacMillan was raised by a pack of wolves within the abandoned city of Chernobyl. With their expertise, he became stealthy, cunning, and learned not only how to speak with a Scottish accent, but also how to wield an M21. MacMillan loved his family. Every night, he would bring home the rabbits that he had hunted that afternoon, just to see the look on their faces (which, being wolves, was almost always the same). One morning, however, while MacMillan was fetching breakfast for his family, the entire pack was murdered by a boy and his father (why they were in Chernobyl to begin with is beyond me). It was but a mere two minutes later when they both heard the phrase, "Oi, suzy!" Neither the condition nor the whereabouts of these two are known. MacMillan currently serves as an SAS (Special Air Service) officer. [Edited on 03.29.2008 2:20 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Uberdawg Thanks for the reviews, guys. Also, somebody PLEASE tell me you caught the Dustin Echoes thing. That was an ingenius idea, courtesy of Rare.
Posted by: sammyb123 So, when is the video series coming out?
When we start it. Do be patient with us! This is no ordinary machinima.... it will require weeks of preparation. Camera work, enormous forged sets, scenes, dialogue, etc. So ETA is some time in the future. For now, you must make do with the writings. Sorry, lads.
Posted by: Kilroy ha! kovacs......
Heh. I'm disappointed Chief didn't comment on that.
lolololol Kovacs. I thought Kovacs was a girl in the fanfic though.

 •
Posted by: Luke35120 Whos Dustin Echoes?
Chief: "Did anyone else make it?" Cortana: "Scanning. Just . . . Dustin Echoes. We are all that's--" Chief: "Well, GO BACK FOR HIM!" It got cut from the game, sadly. Bungie didn't have time to make a Saving Private Echoes mission.
Posted by: Deathinaitor So is the video series going to start off from this point, or going to go from the start, and then go from this point? Cause the thing is, you cant just end the series here, or there would be a riot of such magnitude and violence as Bungie.net has never seen. So...... keep up the good work.
Suzy will be resolved. Machinima issues will be resolved. This fanfic will be brought to a consummate, impeccable, plausible, believable, aesthetic, credible, solid, non-lackadaisical, pro-sequitor, tangible, far-reaching, engaging, non-Byzantine, unflappable, unshaking, foundationally stolid, moonbat-free (well, that one is debatable), concurable, streamlined, free-thinking, scientific, accurate, agreeable, panacaeic, amiable, excellent, perestroika-free, engaging, extraordinary, concurrent, uncurtailed, raw, painfully-ecstatic, amicable, jovial, fatwah-free, strong, pleasing, satisfactory, non-neophyte, prophetical, fame-hogging, cataphractoic, head-on, silver-lined, ideological, forward-thinking, out of the box, managerially and dictatorially impressive, grandiose, all-encompassing, epic, utterly gregarious finale. And it will happen soon. You shall have my best shot at the above, I assure you. I'm going to be honest: things are very up in the air right now. Other than the fact that the fic will be brought to a satisfactory end and that the next chapter will come out soon, I can promise nothing else. [Edited on 07.04.2008 10:24 PM PDT]

 • It may be late, but better late than never. Bad Company and Supreme Commander have been occupying my attention as of late... sorry folks. Here y'all go, the set-up to the final chapter: Chapter 14: The Lads Elysium 2515 Will Pradesh groggily awoke in his apartment one early Thursday morning. This was not a natural awakening, nor a pleasant one. He awoke with a scream into the night, his grogginess quickly wearing off. He saw the figure, clad in green, swinging at him, and he instantly shielded himself, rolling back onto his backside, cowering in fear and cold sweat. It took him a moment to realize that this was merely a dream… it couldn’t hurt him… OI! SUZY! “AAAAAAAAAAH!!!” he yelled again, rolling onto his side and into the fetal position. He began to suck his thumb helplessly. He’d been having these nightmares the whole week, ever since the incident… A knock sounded at his door. Strange… he thought. It’s barely 4:00 AM. He rolled out of his bed, grabbing a baseball bat, and stalked to the door. Before he could get to the peephole, however, he felt his arms being pulled backwards and a forearm close around his neck as he was swung to the floor harshly. The front door burst open. “Got him, sir,” the cockney English accent declared to the mustached man who entered the door with a pair of black-clad men, all wielding old M4 carbines. Captain Price lit his cigar as he lowered his carbine, puffing smoke into the already dense apartment air. “Alright, son, I’ve got word from your superior that you reported some kind of incident in a field last week that involved a chap in a ghillie suit.” Pradesh was allowed to sit by his captor, who released the clamp on his neck but held his arms tight. “I…” he began to shiver violently, despite the warmth of the room. His sweat intensified to a downright unnatural point, as his pupils dilated and his breathing became ragged and rapid. Almost supernatural fear wracked his entire body as he recounted the incident that had inexplicably robbed him of his manhood. “He jumped… he got me and my bud… buddy… in the field outside the… base… he had some kind of Earth accent… British or some…” Price removed the cigar from his mouth coolly. “Did he say what he was here to do?” “N-no, sir… he just offered us some brandy, then clocked us with the bottle…” Pradesh responded, slowly overcoming his fear. Price sighed. Tracking MacMillan was, of course, impossible, unless he left a string of collateral damage, something a man of his stature did tend to do. Price knew, however, that if anyone was up to it, it would be him, the man MacMillan trained to be a fraction as awesome as he was. Pradesh interruped the Captain from his deep thoughts, “sir… I did hear about an incident with some kids at a daycare or something… somebody shot at them, I think.” Price’s head snapped up. “Where did this happen?” “Not sure, but it sure caused an uproar. Parents were a little disturbed that there might be a ninja trying to kill their kids.” “Wait a second!” Private Jackson bursted into the conversation. “These kids… did they happen to attend a daycare where a military officer and scientist visited any time recently?” Pradesh furrowed his brow in thought. “Yeah, I heard a rumor about it, but nobody said much…” “What’re you getting at, Jackson?” Price asked impatiently. “Sir, I’ve been reading these Halo books and—” “You’ve been reading Halo books?” Gaz demanded as Price shook his head, deeply disappointed in his private. “Well, just a little bit…” “You disloyal, Call of Duty hating—” “Gaz, enough!” Price barked, silencing his Corporal. He motioned Jackson to continue. “Yeah, Captain MacMillan may have been here to kill a kid at that daycare because one kid at that daycare became the Master Chief, the star of Halo.” That’s when it hit Price: MacMillan’s inexplicable betrayal of his unit, his journey into the Halo time period… Price suspected what was happening, though he couldn’t be sure. The only way to be positive was to check every coordinate in the time travel machine’s log. “Thank you, lad, we’re done here,” he said as he stood, shoving his cigar back into his mouth as he nodded to Gaz, who knocked Pradesh out and placed him back in his bed. The team stormed back downstairs and out into the night, where their ride awaited. “Sir, couldn’t you have found something better than a Yugo to put the time machine in?” Gaz huffed as the four man squad got into the 1992 Yugo. Privates Jackson and Wolffe had to enter through the rear hatch, as the front seats were unable to bend forward. “Shut it, Gaz. It was the best we could find in that Soviet parking lot.” “I think that pink Slug Bug would’ve been a better call, sir.” Captain Price angrily puffed a clout of smoke from his cigar as he punched in the coordinates to MacMillan’s next location. 65 “hours” later, 2552, the Ark The Yugo tore out of the time travel vortex, landing in an endless desert of sand. “Last known location was in this area, sir,” Gaz said uncomfortably as he checked the log. “Hey, offa my lap!” he shouted as he shoved at Corporal Kovacs, who was crammed into shotgun with him. The squad had grown, since their original task: they had picked up a private and a corporal whilst at Halo. Corporal Kovacs had been wandering in the snowstorm when they found him, and Price saved him out of sheer compassion, knowing a man so stupid couldn’t find his way out of an outhouse, much less survive in extreme temperatures in the wild. Private Dustin Echoes had been a more difficult find. The SAS squad, due to a time-navigation error, had the unfortunant luck of being present when Halo was destroyed, but had the pleasant surprise of picking up the only human survivor from the wreckage. The private had crammed himself into a cryo tube the moment the blast went off, and had been living off of twinkies and his own urine for three days. The exceedingly fat Echoes was packed into the back seat with privates Washington and Jackson, who had their gas masks on to repel the stench of a man who had been wetting himself for three days. “Alright, lads, enough…” Price demanded, exasperated at the cramped, crappy car. “Guess it’s time to comb the desert…” he muttered to himself, knowing that finding MacMillan out here would be like finding a needle in a haystack. After combing the desert for some time, Kovacs spotted the tracks of a strange vehicle leading to the north, towards a hill. “Sir, Captain, sir! Whaaaaaaaat are those lines?” he exclaimed excitedly. Price leered over the steering wheel and turned course to follow them, gunning the Yugo to a striking 30 MPH. “Wait, sir, I saw something in the sand,” Gaz remarked as Price brought the Yugo to a halt. “Get out a check it then, Gaz,” Price ordered. Gaz needed no more prompting: he reached across Kovacs and opened the door, then shoved him out and climbed over him. Gaz neared the shining object and picked it up: a 7.62x51mm shell casing, the kind used for an M21 rifle. He marched quickly back to the Yugo and handed the casing to Price. “He was here, sir.” “That he was. Get back in the—” Price was cut off when the engine sputtered and died, as smoke poured out from under the hood. “No good,” Price commented dryly. “Everyone out of the car!” The squad complied happily, and Price ordered Kovacs and Echoes to remove the time travel vortex generator from the roof of the car. “Looks like we’re on foot, gentlemen, let’s go! He can’t be far at all!” Price shouted as he took off at an easy jog. As the squad crested the hill, they saw a great valley and a structure below, as well as several vehicles, one of which was a small 4-wheeler that was taking off at great speed further north. “There he is!” Price shouted triumphantly as he saw MacMillan’s green ghillie suit standing out against the yellow-brown sand. Though he couldn’t be sure, he thought he saw MacMillan holding some kind of alien’s head and shaking it. Price closed to within two hundred yards of MacMillan before he saw him get up and march to the alien vehicle that had been making the tracks. Price raised his rifle and fired several bursts to get MacMillan’s attention as he ran down the hill, his squad following him. Captain MacMillan’s cold, calculating thoughts of vengeance were interrupted by gunfire to the south, and he turned to see six men, two of them carrying something, rushing towards him. MacMillan’s eyes, sharper than any eagle’s, discerned the butt-kicking mustache and sideburns of Captain Price, his old friend and most recent student (in fact, he was MacMillan’s first student since Sean Connery that had truly given MacMillan hope for humanity). “Oi, Price!” he yelled, temporarily dismounting the Chopper to wave a greeting. Price halted in front of MacMillan and nodded his greeting. The two exchanged a quick secret handshake of such intricacy and greatness so as to make lesser men cry. “Captain, you’ve got a lot to answer for, sir…” Price began, but MacMillan waved his hand. “Lad, I’ll explain it all in good time, right now, I’d like your help. A lass took off on a Mongoose northwards, and we’ve got to track her down.” Price nodded, and was just beginning to take notice of the helicopter, surrounding structures and the pair of corpses, one of which was partially crushed underneath the enormous vehicle that sat mutely to his left. As the squad ran up, Price was about to ask MacMillan if the helicopter was at all useable when he heard a rifle shot, loud and clear. He turned to his squad in time to see Private Echoes dropping to the sand, blood pouring from his head. “SNIPER!”
