Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match!

Yes. This is another post about matchmaking for weekly strikes and raids. But let's be clear. This issue doesn't have to be an antithesis. Why not have matchmaking for the casual gamer AND an in-game LFG lobby/lounge for hardcore raiders to prep and debrief with their fireteam?. In other words, not either/or, but both. The fact is finding a six man fire team can only be done outside of the game itself. That is a major flaw, especially for casual gamers who want to access all the content for which they paid good money. Like and sign 'Make me a match' below if you agree. Enjoy the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59Hj7bp38f8 Poll: Vote YES to matchmaking here: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/76927868 Edit 1: Thanks for all the bumps, likes and comments Guardians! Keep it up! :-D Edit 2: Objection: But it will be impossible to play with randoms. Answer: The people on the forums are randoms. So what is the difference between this and a random matchmaking or LFG system within the game itself? Edit 3: Objection: The raid will be too hard for teams formed via MM and in-game LFG. Answer: I highly doubt that people would find it 'too hard'. It may take a while, but methods for success will spread across the community as a whole. The YouTube guides are already in place. Most people will have watched them by now, and if not, they will do once given the chance to play. Edit 4: Objection: Matchmaking won't create the teamwork needed to finish the raid. Answer: Firstly, matchmaking/in-game LFG wouldn't be an issue for those who prefer to form groups with friends or with teams made online via forums. They don't have to use matchmaking if they don't want to. So get over it! Like I said above, it is not matchmaking vs. the current set up. I am asking for the option of both. Secondly, it is impossible to know what the effects of matchmaking/in-game LFG on teamwork will be without testing them. I think that players will naturally work well together as they do on strikes. Naturally, headsets will be compulsory. No head set, no matchmaking. And, of course, only higher level players will be able to access the raids via matchmaking/in-game LFG. Edit 5: Objection: Grrr I don't want matchmaking *said in angry cave man voice*: Answer: Matchmaking would be desirable for the higher level strikes. It makes no sense to not have this in place already. If you actually read my original above post, then you will find that I am in fact advocating an in-game LFG system for raids, so that players don't have to leave the game to play it. Edit 6: Objection: Loads of people have done the raid via groups made on the forums. Answer: In fact, only a small fraction of Destiny's vast playerbase have completed the raid. Gamers who don't have an army of hardcore geeks on hand should at least be given the chance to complete the game for which they paid good money. Here's the stats and the math: We know that Destiny has a 9.5 million playerbase. The man on moon even knows. Crota's scrota knows. In October, Bungie revealed that only 472,082 players had defeated the Raid on normal. They also revealed that only 36,181 players had defeated the Raid on hard. Provided my math is correct (and maths isn't my strong point), this means that only 1 in 25 (approx.) players out of the total playerbase have completed the raid on normal. And only 1 in a 1000 (approx.) players from the total player base have completed the raid on hard. This means that the vast majority of players haven't played the whole game. Tbh, you can see that without the fractions. Granted, the data is a little old because Bungie hasn't released anything for a while. Nevertheless, the fractions will probably be roughly the same now as they were then because a) Bungie has not implemented a matchmaking and LFG system, and B) the playerbase has probably increased as the game has improved and gained popularity among gamers.

    • How about you make friends and do the raid like it was suggested. I would hate to rely on random people to help me in the raid. Make friends...it's not that hard. Just don't force Bungie to create something for you because you're too lazy to venture out on your own. I would rather their time and resources be spent on other changes than adding this unnecessary feature.

      • Raid matchmaking will only make your raiding experience worse. Especially if it is your first, it is always better to post on the forums or find someone in the tower to help you. Having an experienced raider help people is better than jumping into a lobby of randoms, so many things can go wrong. It is a lot easier to find a raid than you think.

          • I think matchmaking would streamline the process and allow more people to experience the raid. That being said, matchmaking will fail if it is implemented like the current strike playlists. For matchmaking to be successful it needs a high level of customization and detail with respect to how it finds matches. How it should work: Select raid matchmaking, options, choose raid, set level restrictions, choose weapon damage minimum, select preferred classes, set raid completions minimum and lastly Grimoire score minimum. Example: ----------- Raid: Crota's End (Normal) Lvl Min: 29 Wpn Dmg Min: 300 Pref Class: 2x Titans Raid Comp Min: 20 Grimoire Score Min: 2200 ----------- I think the more hardcore audience fears that raid matchmaking will just become a platform for under-leveled and under experienced people to get carried. By using minimum wpn damage, Grimoire score, raid completions and lvl as discriminators for matchmaking this will be minimized. On a side note: all the preferences listed above should also have a "no preference" option for those players that want to help out. Thoughts?

            • Sounds like a really good idea. Especially since the majority of players at the moment are of the casual to slightly dedicated type. It's extremely hard to market a game for everyone, but making it only for the hard core is going to lose Activision and Bungie players and money. The choice of an opt in/out matchmaking would benefit everyone.

            • I vote for an in-game LFG system; browsing these forums are a pain. No matchmaking. While we're at it, just move everything from this site to in game vendors (grimoire, stats, LFG, news).

I've been playing this game since day one and I still haven't done the raid yet. I'm level 28.

                    • Not having matchmaking for the weekly is hypocrisy. You can have matchmaking for the level 24 strike playlist, but not for a level 22 weekly strike? This is frustrating... I'm not buying anything for this game until it's fixed. It's just on principle at this point.

                      • "Reasons not to have matchmaking for the hardest bits of destiny" It's annoying enough that with strikes, it's getting to be one in three strikes that we get some asshole who doesn't help out at all. Or if they are active, They just run around at spawn chest farming while we work through the level. It's always great when you see someone get a legendary or an exotic when they didn't help or really do anything at all in the match. I hear it's a problem in the crucible too. So sure, lets add that to the hard runs, Nightfall, VoG, Weekly and Daily. Lets see just how many more people start abusing this crap and not even playing the game just to get items. "Whelp, time to go to class and leave my PS4 logged into nightfall raids so I can come home and have the loot and xp / rep bonus later" Be social. Get some friends to play with. Meet people in game or on the forums. Matchmaking is just a bad idea for Nightfall and VoG.

                        • If not matchmaking then they shoukd have a spperate area like the tower with chat where uou can get teams together. Right now i have to either come on here or random message and that annoying for both sides

                          • Matchmaking definitely needs to be added for raids and weekly strikes. At the very least, an in-game message board. I'll even take a pop-up over my head in the tower saying LFG.

                              • Matchmaking should absolutely be implemented for all activities, but it should be optional for people who want to solo and it should also be strict about who it matches together, with all the detailed player stats they have it shouldn't be that hard to match similarly skilled/experienced players together. To everyone saying it wouldn't work or is a bad idea, I refer you to CoD: Black Ops 2 Zombies mode. There were other iterations if Zombies in CoD games but I only played Black Ops 2's Zombie mode so that's what I'll be talking about. In Zombies you have to survive unending waves of undead that get harder and more numerous with every wave, and the goal is to go on forever every time you play, which means you need a team of dedicated and skilled players with at least 5-6 hours on their hands, if not days of free time to keep playing (my longest game was 8 hours I think, but you always hope to go as long as possible). The first thing was finding a match, which was often the hardest part but still doable if time consuming. The matchmaking was crap and just threw people together at random, but because there were pre-game lobbies you could always just keep backing out and searching again until you found a group you liked. Also there were ranks based on skill, Crossbones for newbs, a Skull for decent players, a Skull with a knife through it for skilled players and a Skull with two shotguns was the highest rank for the best of the best. I was a Skull with knife (or just Knife for short) and I leveraged that to only accept games with 2 other Knives or better, preferably 3 other Knives (most people with Shotguns only got them by treating their K/D like their baby and quitting out any time they start to die, so not always the best teammates). Once you have a group of 4 skilled players who all have mics, then before the game even starts you have to talk things out and plan who will do what and run where and where are these traps going to go and which door do we open first and who gets what staff and all sorts of little questions to make sure everyone is coordinated and ready to go. And then there was the leaderboard, which stopped counting progress for everyone if anyone backs out or gets disconnected, so making sure those people were there for the long run was one of the most important things, if anyone had less than 6 hours to play then there was no point playing with them. And in the game there were all sorts of things like buildables and Easter eggs and all sorts of complicated things that players would have to do in a coordinated manner to get super-weapons that helps kill Zombies and keep the game going longer. All told the Zombies experience was not unlike Raiding in this game, except that this game is easier because it has a definitive end point and a good team can easily beat it in under 2 hours, a great team can beat it in around 1 hour, which means I could easily do 3 raids, maybe more, in the time it would take to have one decent Zombies match. If this game were to give us matchmaking that actually paired skilled users with mics together, there would be no need for pre-game lobbies like in Zombies and experienced players could easily run through the raid with a match made team. Anyone who's seen wave 40+ of Zombies with a matchmade team knows all this talk of matchmade teams not having a chance in a task this complicated is bullshit, all that's required is good matchmaking, and even without pre-game lobbies I think matchmaking can be made to work by making use of all the player stats Bungie is clearly collecting in all activities. Everyone saying matchmaking wouldn't work, all I can say is: you are so very, very mistaken, it absolutely can work, and not even letting us try to make it work is a slap in the face from Bungie to each of its fans, telling us all that we're not good enough (either that or Bungie just doesn't think they're good enough at matchmaking to make it work, which if there's any reason it wouldn't, it would be shoddy matchmaking). Of course not everyone will have the skill level to beat the VoG and if similarly skilled/experienced players are indeed matched together then most matchmade games will indeed end in failure, but that's not the point. The point is that with proper matchmaking, all the people who are good enough to beat it will be matched with others on their level and they will mostly be successful, and not letting those of us who are good enough have matchmaking just to cater to everyone else who mostly suck is incredibly messed up and in no way constitutes a proper reason for us not to have matchmaking. tl;dr: Matchmaking can absolutely work for all activities in this game if Bungie designs it right, anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about.
