Optional Aim Assist
How do I turn off auto aim/ aim assist? I hate it with a passion because it messes me up more often than not.
Received a lot of response on this in help. I was told by Bungie help to add to the feedback forum. In general, players were annoyed that auto aim is mandatory. Auto aim is frustrating because it can often harm your aim or get you killed (rockets). EDIT: Share your aim assist troubles please. The Struggle is real.

  • I was in crucible when I came across an enemy holding still. I stood about 5ft away, and stepped left to right, my aimer stayed on his waist for about 3 ft and then pulled off (hipfire). I played with it for a while until he dropped.

  • It's very frustrating when I'm aiming at someone with my sniper rifle or rocket launcher, and as soon as someone else runs past my reticle it pulls my aim towards the other person, not quite enough to hit either target, making me miss and alarm everyone as to where I am. I absolutely cannot stand aim assist or sticky aiming.

  • Yea I agree, there should he an option to turn it off. Yea sure you might get more hits on target but it's like the game is aiming for me. May as well let the game control my guardian and I'll make a cup of tea, sit back and watch. Dear Bungie, please give us the option take the stabilisers off. ;-)

  • Today on crucible, I was aiming a rocket at the ground because I wanted to kill 2 guys with splash damage while they were behind cover. Instead, my aimer tracked them as they popped in n out of cover. That caused my rockets to hit the wall instead of the ground next to them. I also had a thrall run right past me while I was aiming a shock grenade at a wall. I wanted the grenade to stick a certain way but instead, my aimer followed the thrall and I hit the wrong angle on the wall which caused my grenade to hit me.

      • Yeah auto aim is too powerful in this game. I'll be shooting one person then someone runs by and it snaps to them

Hello K.T.R.R., I very much agree that the built-in aim assist is too active, and often interferes with my shot selection. This is especially noticeable when trying to kill a priority target mixed in a clump of targets which are all in motion. The tracker will try to follow and actually pulls the scope in the direction of a target which may have crossed in front of the priority target: Fallen Captain, Armored Enemy, Praetorian, Cabal Chain Gunner. Hello BUNGIE, your community is asking for an option to turn Auto-Aim OFF ! Most experienced players don't need the overpowered help being provided. We aren't yet senile, blind, or have lost motor control....except for ____________ who does shots, and is nearly blind drunk when he plays. He couldn't find his way out of a dark room without an Ogre yanking on a chain fastened to a sensitive body part.

      • I cant stand the aim assist to be honest. I cant tell you how many times in PVE where I am using either a sniper rifle or rocket launcher, got my shot all nice and lined up and what happens? A lone troll mob crosses said line of fire, aim assist goes into troll mode just as I pull the trigger and begins following troll mob. Som assist NEEDS to be optional, that is a basic standard.

      • Yeah, it's too strong in Destiny and you actually point your gun at a group of enemies in close proximity and watch as it snaps from one to another because it can't work out where to shoot. Even worse when another enemy runs in front of your sights as you're shooting. Target acquisition isn't exactly hard, you see a bad guy and you point your gun at it. So why did Bungie feel the need to put mandatory stabilisers on a game genre we're all used to playing now? I hope Bungie give us the option to turn it off completely because it's such a pain.

      • There definitely should be an option to turn this off. It doesn't need tweaked or anything like that... just add a switch to it so it can be turned on or off as the individual desires/prefers. Simple stuff really.

      • This is a problem. I feel it especially with the thralls where I'm trying to keep a straight line of fire with a shotgun while they keep coming at me and jumping in my face messing my orientation and aiming. And when I'm trying to focus my fire to a bigger enemies it often happens that some small enemy crosses the line of sight and strays my aiming and I end up missing both targets altogether. I also like to keep the look sensitivity quite high (7-8) so when I'm trying to hit a closer enemy in the head with a pistol I often end up aiming too high (namely over) because of the aiming assist. As for PvP, in my opinion: there even shouldn't be an aim assist.

      • It's not even just with guns. I hate it in upgrade menus when the cursor slows down to a crawl on the edge of an upgrade circle.
