The Origins of The Future War Cult, The Exo, and The Stranger? (Must Read)

This Info Courtesy of :blackbox900
some info from a few different cards, Synopsis: So as far as I can gather, Humanity had a "device" which enabled them to see the future or futures. During "The Golden Age" probably and they knew something way off into the future that was bound to cause a problem (darkness most likely). This prompted the creation / use of this Device Lets just call it (The Device). This device enabled them to observe and see into the future. In 11 of the observed futures The Darkness won (more poetically phrased in the cards^^). 1 or 2 futures where fine, but for the most part things looked grim. The problem was that humans weren't able to cope with the visions the "Device" gave them, depending on their nature and severity. Some survived, but most died and the program was abandoned until The Future war Cult was Founded By survivors, haunted by what ever they saw. They Created The Exo, in order to gain more information through this "Device" and in turn prevent the darkness ending life on earth. Human minds were to frail and struggled with what they saw. The Exo however could handle it. They were created for it. The Future war cult believes that an inevitable war is in the future because they saw a lot of futures at one point. This all happened Pre-collapse.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the info from the Grimore Card: Ghost Fragment: Future War Cult
RECORD 343-CHASM-7887 Subject twenty-two. Admitted to the Inner Circle at 24:00. A promising postulant - I regret to say he performed poorly. He was administered the standard medication but refused to enter the Device. Aren't people unpredictable? I suppose there'd be no point if they weren't, would there? He knows to keep silent. END RECORD RECORD 343-CHASM-7888 Subject twenty-three entered the Device at 11:00. A clever girl from the Core District; an artist, before she joined the War Cult. At 11:03 she reported a sensation of floating. At 11:06, a sensation of lights within the darkness of the Device. Between 11:06 and 11:32 she reported these lights variously as white, golden, and blood-red. At 11:32 she reported a sensation of someone taking her hand; a stranger, but also herself. Twelve subjects have reported similar experiences. At 11:33 she reported the sensation we have called "The Opening Of The Veil." The Device recorded temporal displacement of her consciousness to the order of six degrees. At seven she began screaming. Brainscans near-death. Removed from the Device at 11:34. She believes without question that the Device granted her a vision of the future, and that it was one of utter Darkness. She thanked me for this enlightenment. She says it will make her stronger. Little Ghost, there in the corner of the Sanctum - I see you blinking. Are you listening? Are y - END RECORD RECORD 343-CHASM-7889 The Device at 12:22 and immediately the Device reported displacement of his consciousness. Visions of war and the City in flames. Subject twenty-nine worked the supply channels on the Slip before he joined the War Cult. By 12:27 he was babbling and by END RECORD RECORD 343-CHASM-7890 We have applied certain refinements to the Device. Novarro found records of a prototype of the Device at a Golden Age laboratory in Tibet, and Hari's team retrieved what was left of it. We are the first to see it operational in who knows how long. Too many subjects come back damaged. Mad. We are grasping at straws. What do you think, little Ghost? END RECORD RECORD 343-CHASM-7891 Forty-seven human subjects; eleven report timelines in which the Darkness has already prevailed, thirteen report timelines in which the City has fallen. Twenty-three babbled madness. Hopeless. Trapped. No wonder the Device was abandoned. The human mind is too weak for it. Too weak to look into the Future, or to understand what it sees. What the situation calls for, little Ghost, is a better sort of witness. We found you in pieces in Siberia, and repaired you as well as we could. What do you say? Are you well enough to travel? END RECORD
My belief: This is how the Future War Cult began, They are preparing for the war that is inevitable but they may know way more about whats to come than even The Speaker. The FWC began during The Golden Age. This recording is taken after The Collapse but still by The Future War Cult, my guess is there trying to see further or better understand The Darkness and how to stop it. Note: The text cut off's is part of the grimore. Note: The person speaking is viewing the records from before The Collapse, after which The Device had been abandoned. What I want people to pay attention to is that throughout the text, the conductor of The Trails continuously call the ghost...Little Ghost. Second the end portion mentions another witness, one that the suppose is capable of seeing the future and handling all of the information. Hint:We found you in pieces in Siberia, and repaired you as well as we could. What do you say? Are you well enough to travel? This suggests that this witness is an Exo. The next line in the texts suggests that that The Device at this time (after being abandoned) is capable of Time Travel. This leads me to believe that The Stranger is using this Device to travel through time, which is why she disappears at the end of the final cutscene after giving you the Pulse Rifle which states that it has parts in it which are from the future. Edit: What if the humans didn't create The Exo's, but found them and Reverse engineered them. • Future war cult started after the collapse and hear records are taken during the city age since they mention the city. The device is probably a time gate from Venus and we know the expos wee used for war and other stuff on Venus from vault of glass cards. It's possible expos were also used to go through the the time gates but I don't think so.

  • this would makes sense since the NTTE quest is from the FWC. This would tie in the FWC and exo stranger together which is super cool

  • The exo leader of the FWC is or at some point was the exo stranger! I hope her and Cayde-6 incredibly epic & complex back story is eventually fully told as well as there roles in the overall destiny universe and guardians journey explored.

  • I believe Maya Sundaresh (or one of her copies) is the Exo Stranger. We know from that she worked on the Chasm device, and even entered the machine. We also know that she experimented with mind forking both in her Chasm research and when her and the other members of her team explored the Vex gate network. I dont know much about the lore bit I also know the there is something somewhere about Cadye-6 being apart of her security detail, and she is potentially the girl he refers to during the story mission. It is possible that Dr. Sundaresh transfered her conscience into an exo frame and became the Exo Stranger. What would be even cooler is if she was somehow involved with the creation of the FWC or closely allied with them.

I saw some videos..... they sent chills down my spine. I observed at the end of the vault of glass Light, a wall pierced by Kabr to let the light enter in one of the darkest places on venus... anyway the blocks close to it are too detailed to be only decoration they look like you could jump on them and then i observed a cave , Some legends say that if you get to that cave a cutscene will appear which features Kabr dying and the Exo stranger watching him die. I also think that Kabr's final words are not crazy because he says: "No one can open The Vault alone. I opened The Vault, there was no one with me, but I wasn't alone." and the exo stranger as it is being said in the grimoire card can disolve in space and time alowing her to travel between dimensions. I believe she was there when Kabr and his Fireteam entered the Vault and observed them while fighting the templar and helped them which is why it is said in a grimoire by Pahanin the hunter that observed Kabr by wearing his armor and getting connected with the vex as Kabr was, that someone or something has prevented a catastrophy. I am not sure of all this, but since the intel in the videos I saw started making sense I wanted to share it since I am very curious about vex and Vault of Glass's secrets. Please reply if you know things that match with the ones I know because if we all put our minds together I am 100% sure we can find out all Destiny's secrets .

Nearly forgot something, the white and golden light, if you are a bladedancer and try to get to that cave when you get close light(white and golden) appears and covers your whole screen but just then you fall and die into the abys. So it really matches what if that light is the one saw by someone who entered the device. Could that gap created by Kabr lead you into the future that was seen into the device? Please reply if you know something that matches

  • In game Destiny has next to no story, we are only giving hints, brief mentions of the War minds, great battle of the past and the golden age. So, people have to delve into the lore of the grimoire, and make their own deductions based upon what they have discovered. While I think that having some lore left for the community to discover is pretty cool, however, would it have killed bungie to use this incredible universe they created AND USE IT IN GAME TO CREATE AN ACTUAL GODAM STORY

    • actually the FWC began near the beginning of the collapse. After the golden age technically ended. It says so in the factions quest line for shaax.

They have a repaired Ghost and the person speaking asks him if he can travel, obviously planning to use the ghost to find a guardian with a mind strong enough to stand the device. There is decent probability that FWC intends to do this to us. maybe when we get an expansion for the factions this will be their plot-line.

        • am sorry to bump this. I have been reading alot about the true destiny story today and you are doing a very good job. We all know they left 80% of the original story behind and put into grimoire cards. A writer had to put them into the cards, he had access to the original story, in one of the cards, the first one you posted, he was talking about "little ghost"... Wait, that sounds familiar? Isnt The Stranger saying "little light" to the ghost in the ending of Venus first mission? Bungie could create the most epic story line, ever.

          • For some time ive been wondering if the vex were made by the traveler or golden age earth as they are machines but alive like ghosts i believe in some way they are linked to the traveler. Most notable fact about the vex is their control of time (this is obvious in valt of glass as well as the black garden) The device being made on earth would mean may have made it on our own, or it may be linked to the vex. But heres an interesting theory: Fwc made a vex prototype to send through the device. It needed to be stable (machine) but alive (vex have an organic living mind). The vex adapted though, created a hive mind in the future with the help of the darkness and ultimately became our enemy. Because timetravel they have always had the black garden, but really that was the creation of the traveler and known only as the garden. Corrupted now by the dark vex its the black garden and locked outside time, it is the past present and future all at once so we may never take it from them

            • There is a Titan Mark called The Deep Stone Crypt. It's description says something along the lines of "Depiction of the subroutine that seeded the first Exo consciousness" Could this be The Device?

              • I have read that there were different story lines. One for human, awoken, and exo. Sadly bungie cut that out and the current story that everyone experiences is the exo one. The "we found you in Siberia" thing would then match the very beginning of destiny when the ghost finds you on earth

Nice work, but I think you misunderstood the grimoire card of the future war cult. The ghost fragment means that it is a memory of a actual ghost. The card reads the recording of this ghost. This sections shows that clearly: Little Ghost, there in the corner of the Sanctum - I see you blinking. Are you listening? Are y - END RECORD I think they want a guardian in the device
