I know content like this is being posted all over this forum, but i feel if enough people post their concerns we will be given a response. My linked article is a breakdown of a Reddit AMA where an alleged disgruntled Bungie employee spills the beans on the reasons Destiny was such a let-down. The short of it is that due to writers leaving paired with pressure from executives, Destiny's deep story and immersive environments were scrapped. We were promised so much and were given the remains of an impressive dream. Im beyond upset with the result of this game after looking forward to it following the tragedy that was halo 4 (i very well know it was 343's release, but its another example of something Bungie nurtured into something epic that was allowed to become generic drivel for profit). If the person in the AMA was indeed a Bungie employee, then the excuse that "Some higher up decided that deep stories don't sell and that they needed to make it shallow to appeal to the masses" is an insult to the community and the industry. My opinion of gaming is that appealing to the masses (eg appealing to the lowest common denominator) ruins the quality and integrity of the game. Ill use the Halo franchise as an example; in halo 2 (imo their best work) the matchmaking was super intense and actually made you work for it. Winning a game would get you one step of a few towards a level in that playlist, and a loss would typically lose you a level entirely, making the experince push you to perform better. Instead of this system we're now left with the system where every game, including a loss, gives you experience...this is nothing more than pandering to the lowest common denominator by giving everyone participation trophies. This doesnt promote competition at all, it just promotes an endless grind. You could say the participation-based experience also limits Destiny's multiplayer in that level based advantages are disabled. Whats the point of leveling and getting better gear if you dont have an advantage? Pair the previous loss of quality with the complete scrapping of any story ( IN GAME. Its embarrasing that they even consider we should have to go online to figure out whats happening in the game we're playing) and you're left wondering how they even feel about you as a consumer. If we are to believe the Redditor was indeed a Bungie employee giving us the facts then the reality is we were given an incomplete game; something far from what was advertised and the company expects people to pay for DLC that will give them the promised content in bits and pieces over time when it was all stuff that shouldve been given in the release, as advertised. I looked forward to this release imagining it to be something that would be as epic as my journey in halo 1-3 (sans reach and odst) with new elements bringing Bungie back to its former glory when it paved the road for online gaming with its release of Halo 1 by evolving online gaming once again. Instead I was given the spawn of inter-company disputes and deadlines...a shell of a game who's story (seriously whats even going on in this game?) and interactivity is almost nonexistant (eg trading and local voice chat in instances). The reality is Bungie severely dropped the ball with this release and has yet to comment on it, leading me to believe they're sticking to their guns on this and i dont believe thats ok. Ill stick around a little longer to see if they decide to fix their mistakes, or even try to repair things over time, but small things like removing a bugged cave aren't even close to fixing whats broken with this title. [Id like to see how the community feels about this by participating in the poll]
