During the beta I had no problem playing Crucible or story with a friend, but now I'm constantly getting disconnected.
What changed between now and then because my internet still functions normally for everything else.

I have the same problem. I can play storymissons, but if I see or bump into other players I get disconected (error code: baboon or centipede). Also for the mostpart I cant visit the Tower. I get disconected right away and if I do get there, I'm disconected after a short while >:[
