• The themes are better. Take Superman and the Hulk. Superman started out as a parable for immigrant children. As the ultimate immigrant (with Hebrew name no less) Superman showed that anything was possible in this new land they found themselves in. As the character matured, the new writers didn't know how to hold true to this, and he became an all powerful Christ figure, here to save us from the monsters and ourselves. His powers grew to the point (because we can't have a Christ-Figure losing a fight, now can we?) that literally nothing could beat him. Until Doomsday. Hulk is a warning of the Atomic Age. We let a beast out of the cage, one that couldn't be controlled, and could kill us at any moment. His original origin (the one still in the comics) is that he was looking to make the ultimate bomb, the one that replaced the Hydrogen Bomb. The Gamma bomb. There was an accident, a kid got onto the test range, and Bruce tried to save him before the blast, and got caught in it himself. The radiation mutating him into the Hulk. The lesson behind the Hulk is that we have to control ourselves, or we will be our own undoing. The X-Men taught about racism, sexism and homophobia (ever wonder why mutants are hated for having powers, when the Avengers and a thousand other groups get a free pass?) The Avengers are about teamwork and the Fantastic Four are about family. They are the themes that dominate their stories. Batman is the only one who would fit in, in the Marvel Universe. His theme of guilt, vengeance and will power is the only DC story that is bigger than "he'z teh gud gui and thei r teh bad guis, teh gud guis punch teh bad guis!" Which is the general gist of most DC story arcs when broken down.

 • Very thought out. It's true that marvel had talked social issues first. I'm trying to keep comments like
he'z teh gud gui and thei r teh bad guis, teh gud guis punch teh bad guis
out of here. We're all comic book fans on here, so let's not try to offend other comic fans. I'm a DC fan. I like DC more because it provides a better feeling of escape because it isn't so grounded. I feel kind of the same about several marvel characters that you feel about DC characters. I connect more with a lot of DC characters, and a lot less with characters like cap. But to each their own and all that.
