Does the Mos with an attack over twice the Maverick's have a higher absolute Impact value? Or do both hand cannons have about 80% of the max Impact value of all hand cannons in Destiny? Or do they have about 80% of the max Impact value of all weapons in Destiny?
I'm not sure if a concrete answer for this is floating around yet. They both do 80% of the possible damade, but I don't know if that is 80% max hc damage or 80% possible damage. But what I DO know is that they will both do the same amount of damage to a low-level enemy. The attack stat compares against an enemy's defense stat, and determines If a gun hits the enemy for full damage or not. It does not make the gun do more damage, it just reduces the effect of an enemy's defense. You can almost think of it as "armor penetration."

 • Thanks for the response. So if you shot, say a Dreg, in the head with the Mos, Maverick, or even the Chance hand cannon, they all would do the same damage? Say the Dreg has a defense of 20, and you shoot him with a hand cannon of Attack 100, then I shoot him with a hand cannon of Attack 200, both of us would do the same damage? Note that the Mos, Maverick and Chance all have the same stats (except attack and # of rounds). Are they all equally effective against low-defense enemies? My point was that I'd like to know more about the game mechanics. If Destiny is like most games in a few months there will be some wiki with all the stats and mechanics...

 • As far as I know, that's exactly right. As long as all 3 weapons have enough attack to deal full damage they will do equal damage if their impact is the same.

 • Interesting. A bit counterintuitive tho. I think my youth playing pen and paper RPGs and Turn Based Strategy games kinda set me up for frustration when I can't know exactly how the game mechanics work!

 • Yeah, I still play them actually. It's pretty similar. Attack in Destiny is like attack in an rpg, that it compares to an enemy's defense. And impact is like the damage roll. The difference is that instead of seeing IF you hit, attack determines if you deal full damage.
