Hello, i've been to about 7 preorder midnight releases and it can get pretty crazy from the amount of people that show up.
For big games like this, you can expect to see around 400-500 people if the store you got the preorder for is popular. (Gamestop) Let's get started! :)
Tip #1: Be early and get your ticket in line ASAP! I can not stress this enough. Get to the Preorder destination before it starts getting dark. Get your ticket around 8:00 pm. They usually start the line up around 11:00 - 11:30, but i recommend being there at 10:00 pm to 10:30 pm tops. You do not want to be standing around in line and be like 200th in line. Also if you get your ticket before things get crazy, you can go out to eat or just go get snacks and chill some where instead of just being around everyone.
Tip #2: Bring money. This is related to #1, you're probably going to get hungry. I suggest eating before you leave entirely or bring snacks and water.
Tip #3: Bring a friend or something to keep you occupied and kill time. It's going to get boring, trust me. You can meet new people and exchange your GTs or PSNs if you'd like. Bring a phone with some games on it, or something small. Don't bring a tablet cause you never know if you'll drop it or something might happen.
Tip #4: Don't be one of those guys who scream in joy when you get your hands on the game. It just makes you look stupid.
Tip #5: Wear comfortable clothes. (tshirt, shorts, etc) You're going to be standing around ALOT. Wear comfortable clothes but also bring warm/dry or rain proof depending on where you live remember you are going to be there a long time and depending on where you live be prepared.
Tip #6 Just have fun. Sometimes at Gamestop they setup a big tv with the game so people can play. like 1v1 or 2v2. And they have trivias where you can win stuff like a wristband or a cardboard cutout :) Just have a good time. It'll be fun!
Thanks for reading! :D Hope these tips help you out! Comment questions if you have any, i'll most likely reply!
And leave other helpful tips!

Edited by Aekotie: 8/6/2014 11:36:16 AMI actually usually bring a tablet and curl up into a corner reading Fanfiction. Does that make me a freak?
-
Tip #0 : Remember to pre-order the game.
-
If I could add to Tip #5 Wear comfortable clothes but also bring warm/dry or rain proof depending on where you live remember you are going to be there a long time and depending on where you live be prepared. Other than that great list.

I remember at the Fable 3 launch some dudes came dressed up as women. Final tip: Be prepared for anything.
-
And a side note. Halo 3 launch. I came with a cooler full of game fuel. Payed around 15 bucks for them all. Came out with enough money to upgrade to the collectors edition and buy another case of game fuel. Mega win.

I'd always just rather getting up early the next day then waiting in line because I always just go to sleep once I get home from one haha
-
You forgot to mention get your friends pick up truck and play halo out the back of the bed ;)
-
Im that guy thats always 1st in line for night releases.. For the ps4 midnight opening i was standing there alone for 1,5 hour before the first other ppl joined me :P
-
I usually arrive around 10pm. From that point, I'm usually getting my game around 10 mins after midnight, at my usual Gamestops. Don't forget to check in and finish paying, or get your receipt signed! Pro-tip: don't speed home and stop at all stop signs. Got a ticket for a "California stop" the night Reach released literally on the block by my apartment. Was issued the ticket in my parking spot. It was complete malarkey.

I don't really get to go to midnight launches anymore, but I usually show up at the end instead of just waiting in line.

Edited by Thoth: 8/6/2014 2:02:25 PMHow can I do #6 if I can't do #4? I've been working on a shrill scream of joy and been practicing my jumping in the mirror.

Obviously you don't live in my area. There are so few people who go to midnight release that when they open the door at 12, they're closing them at 12:30... Last time there was a midnight release, there was only about 30 people who showed up from what I heard.
-
The last big one I went to had a line around 1 side of the building and into the back parking lot (GTAV) I was in group G, and I was out of the store and HOME by 12:21. That time of night all the lights are flashing yellows and its only 10 minutes in traffic anyways. The way they do it you aren't even in the store for 10 seconds after midnight and you barely even stop to grab your actual copy. I'm not too worried about it.
-
If you preorder there is no reason to stand outside a store at 12am. They will hold your copy 48hrs. But if standing in line is your thing then go for it.
-
Tip #7 Stay up all night Sunday and as long as you can into Monday (9/8) so you can sleep up until its time to go to the midnight release. That way you will be refreshed and ready to kick ass all of Tuesday and beyond!

My tip would be: Make sure its actually worth going to a midnight launch. Currently, we don't know when the servers will go live. If the servers don't go up until midnight PST and you're in the UK (like me) you wont be able to play until 8am anyway. So you may as well just get a good nights sleep. I Really wish Bungie would release some solid info about this. I need to book some time off work, and its impossible without knowing exactly what is going to happen.

I have a tip, buy the digital version and there is no need to go to the store at midnight and no need to wait in a line of 500 people
-
I have to drive half an hour out of town to my nearest gamestop. I can't do midnight releases in fear of hitting a deer on my way home.
-
Get the digital version and preload on 9/4.
-
Better idea... come at one and get it with no wait
-
Tip#7, preorder digital edition and play while laughing at the people that are still waiting in line somewhere. :)
-
We're not even a month out :,(
-
Tip #7, pay a stripper $500 to dance when they start selling the game
-
would like to mention most gamestops will allow you to pick up your receipt to confirm you have it preordered but have stopped going by order they now go by letting the first 5 or 10 lined up instead of a ticket number.

Or go to Wal-Mart and skip the hours of waiting in line. Never again, Gamestop.
