Tips for the Preorder midnight release if this one is your first.

Hello, i've been to about 7 preorder midnight releases and it can get pretty crazy from the amount of people that show up. For big games like this, you can expect to see around 400-500 people if the store you got the preorder for is popular. (Gamestop) Let's get started! :) Tip #1: Be early and get your ticket in line ASAP! I can not stress this enough. Get to the Preorder destination before it starts getting dark. Get your ticket around 8:00 pm. They usually start the line up around 11:00 - 11:30, but i recommend being there at 10:00 pm to 10:30 pm tops. You do not want to be standing around in line and be like 200th in line. Also if you get your ticket before things get crazy, you can go out to eat or just go get snacks and chill some where instead of just being around everyone. Tip #2: Bring money. This is related to #1, you're probably going to get hungry. I suggest eating before you leave entirely or bring snacks and water. Tip #3: Bring a friend or something to keep you occupied and kill time. It's going to get boring, trust me. You can meet new people and exchange your GTs or PSNs if you'd like. Bring a phone with some games on it, or something small. Don't bring a tablet cause you never know if you'll drop it or something might happen. Tip #4: Don't be one of those guys who scream in joy when you get your hands on the game. It just makes you look stupid. Tip #5: Wear comfortable clothes. (tshirt, shorts, etc) You're going to be standing around ALOT. Wear comfortable clothes but also bring warm/dry or rain proof depending on where you live remember you are going to be there a long time and depending on where you live be prepared. Tip #6 Just have fun. Sometimes at Gamestop they setup a big tv with the game so people can play. like 1v1 or 2v2. And they have trivias where you can win stuff like a wristband or a cardboard cutout :) Just have a good time. It'll be fun! Thanks for reading! :D Hope these tips help you out! Comment questions if you have any, i'll most likely reply! And leave other helpful tips! We will destroy the darkness, Guardians.

    • Or go to walmart or target like I do every year where they always have 1000 copies because everyone's at gamestop. Then go drive past gamestop and scream at the top of you're lungs,"Suckaaaassssssssss!"

        • I remember some friends of mine in high school did this with Halo 3, and they could barely function the next day. It's never seemed worth it to me.

It was the release of Red Dead Redemption. The day was warm and young. I had managed to hitch a ride from a friend to the nearest GAME store in town. He had to drop me off however, as he had to grab some food before he got his copy. I was fine with this, I had my preorder, quite confident on my own. There was an exceptionally long line extending out of the store. I went to the back of the line, you know, as you do. About an hour later, some guy who worked at GAME asked me if I has preordered the game in store, I replied, telling him I had. He asked if I wanted to come collect my copy, so, taking this opportunity to get my copy, many hours ahead of what I expected was a massive bonus! If only I knew what events would follow. He took me to the back of the store, past the tills, explaining I would get a preorder bonus, and that they stocked them in the back. I accepted this fact, wondering when my friend would arrive. He opened the wide red door, and let me through, a long corridor was ahead of me, in complete darkness. The door closed behind me. The man had gone. I was alone in this dark corridor, shouting for help, with no response. At this point I was panicking, but I knew I had to keep my cool. My next thought was to get some light, so I could find my way around. I proceeded to fumble my way to the spot I came in, finding a small switch. I flipped it and the entire corridor systematically lit up, one light after another, and at the end was another door, with the word 'WELCOME' in bold script in the middle. Carefully edging down the corridor I began to question what lay behind it, maybe a games club or a secret society. How wrong I was. I reached for the handle, turning it ever so slowly as to try not make a noise. The corridor was so silent you could hear a pin drop. The lock tumbled and the door swung open, as if yanked by a machine. On the other side was a large, rectangular room, in almost complete darkness. In the centre of the room were two dimmed red lights, each producing a silhouette of approximately equal size. I tried to turn and run but the door was shut and would not open. I was stuck. The lights above me flickered, and the entire room filled with a blinding light. In front of me lay 3 bodies. All of which were middle aged men. Dark red blood streamed from their bodies, and draining in the middle of the room. The two unrecognisable figures rose and in commanding voices they bellowed in unison "Wake up you little -blam!-!" I blinked, and I was back in the line. My friend and his buddy were looking at me in a strange way, like I was an idiot or something. I then realised I was naked and I wasn't in the line at all, I was in a gay bar surrounded by naked men, all eating marshmallows off of my legs. It was only then I realised I never went out that day to get red dead redemption. I went out to get some new lightbulbs and came back with more than I bargained for. A couple of screw tops and a whole bucket load of STD's.

              • Only went to one midnight release at Gamestop and that was for Battlefield 3. Here's how it went for me. Arrived at 11:50 p.m with around 50-100 people already in line. Gamestop employee told us we can pay for the whole game if we did not already then wait in line. Make sure you have your receipt ready. At exactly midnight, they begin to give out copies. Left with my copy around 12:10. Rather go to the midnight release for Destiny because it's quicker then going in the morning when Gamestop only has like two employees working and the line barely moves.

              • 7 midnight releases? Still new to this? All this is unnecessary. I've been to over 30 midnight releases. And I do the same thing every time. 1. Arrive at 10pm. Sometimes earlier. 2. Bring snacks. 3. Bring Gameboy to kill time if there isn't a TV set up. 4. Get in line. Your pre-order is your pre-order. It doesn't matter if you're first in line or last. You will get your game. They will have just enough limited editions for those that pre-order. So if you're last in line and you have a Ghost Edition. You'll get it. They're not gonna give it away to someone who doesn't have a ticket matching the edition they pre-ordered. I swear, it's still a month away and some of you get too carried away.

                    • Tip #7 get drunk!! In all seriousness though I'm quite lucky. The local game store opens for midnight releases regularly even though I live in a fairly small town. Even on big launches there's usually just a few dozen of us and we all pretty much know each other. They have a great system in place too, you go into store and pay for what you want during the day, they bag it up and staple a numbered ticket to it. You bugger off to the pub, come back inebriated at midnight and wait for them to call your number, go in, pick up bag and stumble toward home usually stopping for a kebab or pizza on the way. However, I'm missing midnight launch this time and I won't lie, I'm a bit gutted. It's like a ritual, it only happens a few times a year.

                      • This is going to be my my first midnight release, i have already have plan of action in place, i pre-bought the limited edition, so my day goes as follows, i work until 5, drive to gamestop (3 mins away from my job) get my place holder, go to the movies (20 min drive from the gamestop) drive back to gamestop. I'm lucky that my gamestop is located in a very busy strip mall, on a major highway in NJ, which has 5 fast food places within walking distance and a supermarket that's open until 1 am (trust me when you need to use the facilities it's a definite plus). I think i'm set lol, it's going to be a good couple of days.

                      • Since I'm a Onyx member of ebgames (rewards card). I'll just go at 11:59. Walk to front of line grab my ps4 bundle and ghost edition. Then walk back out passed all the idiots who had to show up early for NHL 2015. And rub my destiny in everyone else's face. Walk to my place across the street n play some Destiny.

                        • Luckily I will avoid all of this by just ordering a digital copy. So sick of pre-order stuff. Always the weirdest collection of people at midnight releases. I'll be at home enjoying my game at midnight. No need to get sweated on or coughed on. Or get into an awkward conversation about like anime. In reality this is a long term game. So getting in 8 hours before anyone wakes up is pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
