In Bungie's Destiny, we see and hear the lore all around us bit by bit and explore and learn the secrets of our past as the story unfolds. The Grimoire cards do provide that, but individual texts that shed more light on the world would usually go into a codex, which the grimoire replaces. There's also the fact that in a co-operative game like Destiny plans to be, stopping everything to read a short story might not really jive with the pace the game provides. If you're riding solo and want to head back to the tower, sit down on a couch in the bar and read up on the biography of Lord Saladin, or the recent history of the Future War Cult, that could be cool. I'd rather do it in my Grimoire than in a book I got as loot... because that takes up a gear/ equipment slot... and I don't have the vault space for that.

  • Actually books aren't gear. They go right next to the spin metal, ether seeds, rare coins, and glass shards, I believe. That particular inventory if far more spacious than our full selection of favoured guns and armor. Many people say believe the g. cards are fine for covering lore, however books have a potential to do far more, such as open New faction quests, give us points with the cryptarch, our even teach us new gestures. Haha. Not that it's mandatory, but their addition seems more beneficial to the world of Destiny than detrimental.

  • Your definitely right on that point, it certainly can't hurt but I feel like it would be best implemented as just a more in depth grimoire, which is naturally where we store everything we learn about the Destiny Universe. I found the information on the grimoire cards after the Beta to be really unsatisfying. With that in mind, when we find historical data such as texts, data caches, pre-collapse logs and the like; I think it would be sweet if the artifact itself could be returned to a character at the tower like the cryptarch, speaker or whomever in exchange for glimmer or a similar reward, while the information was copied in its full unadulterated glory into our grimoire for future reference. Keeps the inventory lighter, provides a new type of returnable item, but still holds the player experience value of discovering new lore to satisfy our ravenous Warlockian hunger for knowledge. Does that sound better?

  • Aye, that is good. Very good indeed. I had the same unsatisfactory feeling after reading my entire g. card collection also, which is fairly substantial. My score in the beta got up to 770. The hunger for knowledge is real. Lol. However, I agree that we'd need a place or person to take books off our hands too. Even vault space has a limit. One that gets reached quickly, I came to find.

  • For sure, definitely returnable items. After all, when we find new secrets out on the frontiers, its only natural to take it back to the hub of civilization to be archived and studied by our leaders. This has been one of those discussions on forums that actually develops an idea and refines it to a point where everyone involved agrees on the end product!... I like it when that happens :).
