Raids Need Matchmaking

First off, I have a good size friends list. Of that list I have around 10 - 15 that are planning on getting Destiny. So even without matchmaking I will manage to raid. However I do have a pro matchmaking argument. I would like to expand my friends list with people who have a passion for playing Destiny and wanting to raid. My current friends list is composed of people who, guess what, I met through some sort of matchmaking in game. I rather not go to some third party medium to find people to do raids with when matchmaking will achieve the same process. There is no guarantee that the people you decide to team up with from the third party medium will be good or capable of raiding anymore that matchmaking. What I see matchmaking as, is a social tool of meeting new people who like to participate in activities that I do. Furthermore, once you have comprised a good list of "Destiny friends" or can forgo matchmaking all together. This is the console crowd. Going back to my statement of my friends list is composed of people I have met in game via matchmaking. I could pull some arbitrary percentage number out of my butt, however I have no documentation to back it up. But I am willing to bet that most of you people reading this have friends list comprised the exact same way. This isn't a PC, "One does not simply Alt-Tab on a console into some forum looking for raid members". What if Halo, COD, Battlefield, (insert your favorite multi-player console game) had no matchmaking? Would you want to be forced to go to a third party medium to play the game? A third party medium of finding friends/raid members would/does work fantastic on a PC. However the majority, if not all, of socializing, befriending, team making on consoles is done in game. Last thing I want to point out. Luke Smith said in the raiding video, there are no class slot requirements for raiding, "all of your jobs is to shoot guys". Which from what I gather has been the biggest problem with matchmaking for raiding in the past, as in having competent Tanks or Healers. As I see it there are not many downsides of having matchmaking for raids. Anyone feel free to correct me in grammar, spelling, information or if you think I am completely off base on this subject. Arrrgggh da interwebs....

  • The games you mentioned (cod, halo, battlefield) have 5 or 10 minute game modes with very simple objectives. The fastest I've ever raided was in about an hour, with 5 other very experienced people. The app is fantastic, I don't know why more people don't use it. I don't agree with the whole, why do I need a 3rd party shit, it is destinys app for Christ sake, put the controller in ur lap and go into the app on your phone. If you are too lazy to commit 5 minutes of your time to complete this simple task, I have absolutely no faith that you can commit to or comprehend this raid. It is pretty confusing the first few times even when it's explained to you.

  • Look at how many people leave or get booted when randoms LFG on here and other website. They grab check points and leave, they argue and get pissed when someone doesn't know how to do this or that. They don't want to learn how other people do things differently. MM for the raid would suck and even though them putting the option in for it for those who want it wouldn't hurt us that don't, it's just going to hurt all those that use it.

I believe they should have the choice of matchmaking for ppl who can't find raid groups that well and make it where ppl can only play with others within a 1 or 2 lvl difference of them. This same process should be applied to nightfall and the weekly. But, I do believe they should keep the choice of no matchmaking so the people who don't want it will be happy. I mean, why does it have to be one or another, just make it both! Note: I think they should make a policy where everyone has to have a mic, at least plugged in.

  • I completed my first raid last night. Three of us were in my clan and we picked three good players in the tower that knew the raid well. We worked well as team and was well worth the effort. It was not hard to talk to ppl in the tower and recruit people to do the raid and we all were at least lvl 27. I think matchmaking will group the people committed to the raid with others that will leave as soon as gets hard. Also I see a lot of lvl 25 ppl trying to do the raid which is gonna make teams that are not set up for success. I don't see the need for matchmaking honestly.

  • They could have at least given us the choice to participate in matchmaking for raids and even the nightfall strikes if we wanted to. I dont understand the zero tolerance policy on matchmaking for either of those missions

    • Ladies and gentleman, I give you idiocraties himself! The raid saves to the fireteam leader and you can only get rewards from each part once a week. Please tell me more about how matchmaking would make the raid so much better for the whole world, let alone how it would work.

    • Tl;Dr no. All you pub people can't stay in a raid. Its pathetic. Be with someone for hours and they bounce. Matchmaking doesn't need to happen in raids. For many, many other reasons apart from this one.

    • But the raid is sooo hard cant be beaten with random people... No seriously, it really needs a matchmaking system. Maybe the game should just check if everyone has a mic plugged in since communication is needed but other than that i see no reason why it shouldnt work. The longer the raid is out, the less people dont know its mechanics. Once you know them its doable, even in random teams

      • Bungie already said there's no matchmaking for raids. It's the way they want it and I don't think they're going to change their minds. Looks like people will have to learn how to make friends.

        • No match making for end game raids is essential for experience they want for us. The raids will last upwards of 4 hours (presumably special event raids) and there won't be any objectives during the raids, so communication is a key. Cant be guaranteed with random people joining in

          • I'm against it i mean there is enough time to get people connected ingame before anyone is ready for raids

          • I got to the Alt-tab, PC part and all I could think was "companion app, forums, destiny" done. You literally can leave that open on your phone. Problem solved there. I get your arguement...slightly. I think the biggest issue that Bungie wants people to avoid with these raids is people skipping out and having to leave in the middle of them and randoms jumping in in the middle of the raid and getting loot they DO NOT deserve. I would be pissed off for that to happen. Plus they already said the Raids would be unforgiving without a full team. I'm sure it is still managable with 4-5 people but I doubt it. I'm personally okay with finding 5 more people who I trust and connect with on my friends list, not to mention have mics, than someone who most likely lacks a mic, doesn't communicate effectively if they do, or just feels like trolling for the sake of doing so. I've played my fair share of FFXIV and waiting for God knows how long just for a simple dungeon or Sycrus tower run because people constantly drop out at the last second can get REALLY annoying. Matchmaking isn't perfect and I'm not sure why everyone is making it out to be as such.
