I just got the Ascendant Energy today for the first time. Was hoping the link would tell me what to do with it. Guess that's a full game surprise. :)

You get ascendant stuff when you complete public challenges. I have 3 energies, 2 other ascendant item that I can't remember the name to. Can't figure out what to do with em either

I think they'll be used in weapon or armor upgrades. I had a chat with the Titan commander and noticed that some of the armor items had upgrade options that needed materials like spinmetal. So I wouldn't be surprised if materials become just as important as glimmer later in the game.

Looks like that. I know the strange coin items help towards getting armour and weapons that fall under exotic rarity, rarer than legendary. Their items that seem to have glow effects on em, and look amazing. I'm guessing these ascendant things are for the same thing
