Just want to start by saying I'm writing this as a massive Halo lore fan (and sci-fi nerd in general).I really do love the Beta, but as a lore-enthusiast I have a couple of concerns. <3
1. As much as I love the Destiny Beta and where they're going with the game, I felt massively underwhelmed by the story missions - by which I mean they didn't have any, well, story. Coming off of the Halo franchise, which was rich and waist-deep in lore, I was totally expecting this massive world with hundreds of thousands of years of backstory and tales of past events - perhaps unlockable like the Halo Terminals.
But instead, the Beta's story consisted of a short cutscene introducing the Traveler followed by a series of short "kill all the enemies and get something" missions, with no cutscenes or story in between. Again, I was expecting a fully-realised campaign with cutscenes, characters, real objectives, backstory and a whole history behind the universe - not just some tiny missions which felt like they were thrown in to keep the story-guys happy. This goes for the Explore mode too; will there be any lore/story to explore, not just enemies?
2. Something else I don't understand is Earth; is Old Russia the only location or will there be a few more maps that size? I remember Bungie saying that the players won't realise how big this game is until we get our hands on it. Somehow, that doesn't seem true yet.
I feel like I'm missing something; either way I'm really hoping Bungie are just keeping their cards close to their chest with regards to the story and lore. I pre-ordered the Ghost edition just so I could get as much lore as possible at launch, but now I fear that there won't be hardly any in-game.
Any thoughts?
