The tower is this size so that its easy to get around and get the tasks needed done quickly. This is from the IGN video with Bungie about the tower and it makes absolute sense.
I don't want to be walking around for ages looking for NPC's to hand in missions or to go to the vault. Get in, get out.

But it's not going to be that big, making the tower 3x as big as it is now would be a perfect size

To what end? What's the point of a bigger tower as it doesn't offer anything. I know a lot of it is closed off but currently I think its a perfect size.

Actually all I saw that was closed off was where the Iron Banner was held. Anything you see stick out?

Well a bigger tower would mean maybe a gun range like many suggest,or some type of area with mini games,or an duel area,idk but many things.

I think that the tower needs a shooting range, like behind the gunsmith there's an indoor shooting range, and when you walk up to one of the booths it goes first person and you pull your gun out, you already have the gun on your back, and going first person to third person is pretty seamless when you use a d pad emotion while in first person. I think lots of people would like to try the gun(s) they have just decrypted, bought, or been rewarded without having to wait to go to a destination, or make a desperate trip to do so. It will keep the tower more busy too! You could say that part of the fun is having to wait till your next outside the tower free roaming, doing a mission or what have you to use your knew firearm and feel it's kick, but i much rather have a new thing to do in the tower. Plus the gunsmith is already selling ammo!! So maybe using the gun range could cost a little glimmer? Buy your own ammo
