Map request

Absolutely needed, Bungie please add one

Not needed, I like not knowing where I've been

So, very simple, this is a request for a map that clears/expands as you explore an area. (Fallout style) I have gone exploring for hours and found myself coming back to repeated areas. I love exploring but definitely not blindly, roaming every corner of the galaxy is one of the features I am looking forward in Destiny, I don't think I will be able to enjoy it as much just doing it without knowing where I have been. There could even be trophies/achievements and rewards linked to it, idk just throwing ideas out there. Please answer and comment maybe we can get DeeJ to read this and pass the message along for our chance at a Map! Thanks!

  • It won't hurt to add one, that's for sure.

  • It's fine the way it is. Your options are loaded. The map is so -blam!-ing small anyone tht doesn't have short term memory loss should be able to remember and know damn well where they are.

    • Unlike those of you who have a good sense of direction and don't think there needs to be a map, I am one of the many directionally challenged people who has played the entire beta and still gets confused as to where I am sometimes. And for the people who are saying they didn't need one in Halo, duh. Halo was linear. Destiny is more open world than Halo, especially on the explore mode. I don't necessarily think there needs to be a mini-map on the screen, but I would like the option to pull up a map and look at the overall region and where I am on the map. Even better, if they did something like Assasin's Creed Black Flag where you could sync your iPad and look at the map in real time on it, that would be cool too. But at least give us a basic map that shows where we are and where we need to go, for people like me who can't tell where they are...

I would say to have a blank map which only gets partially filled in. Specifically with only major landmark areas. Which will be few I suspect. This way you still have the exploration aspect but you also have some sort of idea as to where things are. So for example, there is a shack with an impotant character, or something, somewhere. That is the type of thing that would be marked. But if you have some sort of special area (an area where particular enemies spawn?) of sorme sort, that wil remain unmarked. This way you know the area is soemwhere in the vecinity of the shack. But you still need to go find the exact location. P.S- no idea if its feasable.

        • I would support a toggle over world map. Leave the tunnels (other than entrance/exit points) off, but have the main areas. Essentially a satellite view that I access from the ghost menu.

        • They specifically didn't put one on the game because you are supposed to learn the area yourself and having a digital guide is just making it too easy

              • I voted for not needed. The reason is simple. If the release maps are going to be anything like the current beta explore map, you can get to anywhere from just about anywhere (even through the level 20 areas if you are careful/quick enough). There are a couple areas which I jokingly call "caves of nope" that dead end and you'll probably die several times in the process of finding said dead end. That's the thrill of exploring. Learning where to go and where not to go. Protip, if you wander over to the devil tank area on explore, easier to go to orbit than backtrack. You are provided a waypoint with the nav button and an arrow on the radar. The playable area is straightforward. A map would be redundant. Additionally, the way the beta story missions are laid out, they take place in the same explore map you would go to, defeating the purpose of a fallout style in-game map. If you are circling back to already explored areas, good. Enemies, loot boxes, spinmetal, and missions reset periodically. However, as this is a beta and certain things are content locked, it may very well be that there is a map somewhere in the code, just not available at the current time. Of course, I am basing this off of my many years of open world game experience, and the many (many) hours derping about in explore so yeah, I'm somewhat biased against it.

                • Having a map ruins the experience of actually exploring. Just looking at a map an then going to the location would ruin the immersion of actually being a guardian that has just woke up and doesn't know where he is. ' you havn't been awake for 100's of years but HERE'S A MAP GO HAVE FUN KIDS. Please no, just stop with this map bullshit.
