Quick note, slightly off-topic but relevant to Hunters - The Hunter Double Jump. Has anyone else noticed that the Hunter's Double-Jump isn't half as good as the Titan Lift and the Warlock Glide, either in PvP or PvE? In Devil's Lair, trying to get on top of the first building as the Devil Walker drops at the beginning of the encounter you have to use the crate to the right to reach the roof to start sniping enemy snipers, while the Warlock and Titan just bound up there and then go halfway across the map with a second jump. While in PvP, Warlocks and Titans float around the maps raining fire down on unsuspecting enemies coming around the corner while the Hunter is forced to take their time and carefully jump form one piece of terrain to the other in order to gain height and you have no range with the double-jump either.

  • I play warlock and I think you may have a sloth misconception. Our glide is highly dependable on inertia. To get a good slide we need to almost immediately press x to gain height or we will just fall straight to the ground. The second being any actions besides reloading I.E ADS, Shooting, Grenade. Cancels out our glide causing us to plummet to earth. This can make sneaking up on enemies a problem over death pits as trying to defend yourself will result in death.

  • You know what I mean though...Warlock and Titans seem slightly more manoeuvrable with their jumps after getting the first one or two abilities, whereas the Hunter needs to unlock 3 or 4 abilities it seems to get the same sort of movement, but we're not really at a disadvantage...that greater air movement means greater chance of being shot down, but in PvE it's easier to get out of the action and away by moving then double-tapping your jump to escape.

  • The Hunter's jumps are not as powerful, yes, but it's made up for in the precision by which they are allowed to control themselves in the air. The Hunter is given an ability that the other classes do not have, conveniently named "Better Control". It lets you double jump in essentially any direction you want, regardless of the inertia you had on the first jump. Jumping is noticeably less precise without this ability. I personally find precision far more valuable than jumping power. Being able to control yourself in the air is a must-have on the battlefield.

  • the double jump can be just as useful if you use it right. Instead of just pressing the second jump right after the first you can wait a while and maximize your jump potential. I can get up on anything that you're able to and cross all distances we're able to just by sprinting and holding off on activating the second jump. That's also the point of the three classes is that they're all played differently.

  • True...but have you ever had one of those lovely moments against the Devil Walker in Devil's Lair where; the main gun is aiming at you and you try to double-jump out of the way and you've not pressed hard enough in the direction you want to go? With a Warlock or Titan the Glide/Lift takes you up higher than the blast of the Walker's weapons, while the Hunter is one-shot. And while I know, it's my fault for messing up the jump/escape/not timing it right, it just feels like the other two classes are more forgiving with their jump-based abilities, and it seems like they have the potential to mess up less often and leave you grounded and surrounded by enemies like during the first Hacking encounter in DL where the other classes boost up onto the rear ledge and once or twice I've found myself misjudging the jump up there and being surrounded by Stealth Vandals.

  • I've never had that problem, the laser that signals that you're about to be shot at has more than enough time for you to move out of the way before the actual gun fires. That problem doesn't come from having a weak jump, that's a matter of learning your enemies moves.

  • True, and I know what you mean about it being a precision class (even though none of the other Hunter's I've been in DL with used it that way and ignored the snipers that were picking us off!!!). But what about when you're "Last Guardian Standing" and you have to run in to pick-up someone who got taken down? I've got a pretty good understanding of the timing, and I'll be the first to admit that I've made mistakes with the timing, I've messed up the jump, etc...but to be so unforgiving! Damn You Bungie!!! /sigh...to be honest this is probably a pointless argument on my behalf anyway; I actually do pretty well on my Hunter playing the rear-position precision marksman, and the jump isn't a major issue, especially when you consider that I haven't even unlocked the last 2 traits relating to the jump ability...so with Triple Jump or Blink this opinion of mine will probably become pointless and I'll be moaning that the Warlock and Titan don't jump as well as my Hunter in a few days XD

  • Also, the hunter isn't the other classes you have to approach things from different ways because of the differences. You can't look at it like its a gimp but more like a chance to fight the enemy a different way, the hunter isn't meant to be in your face, he's meant for stealth and range, pick your shots and your positions carefully.

  • True...The other two classes are a kind of "In-Combat" jump, whereas the Hunter's is a "Don't-mind-me-I'm-just-getting-up-here-to-see-you-better-so-please-ignore-me-until-I'm-ready-to-kill-you" kind of jump. Positioning pre-empting combat rather than combat manoeuvrability.

  • yeah, I mean I see what you're saying still. lol, usually when I'm playing in a strike and I'm the last standing I just stay alive and hide til my team can spawn themselves, its super useful when fighting the tank and my teammates usually catch on to that tactic when they see it. the only time I'm scared in the strike is when I'm downed and I don't know what my mates are gonna do. Our sub-class is waaaay more like the others in terms or play style, not like copies but more in your face and I for one think it'll be way better for the more closed in areas of pvp. super stoaked for that class. I also don't mean to discourage your point that your making I'm just trying to logically put up counter statements to try and put my point of view in.

  • Lol...screaming: "Don't Res Me! Don't Res Me!" at the screen because you can see the tank turning towards where you both are and taking aim as your counter heads towards 100%.

  • Yes! oh man those times are scary. All the more reason we need push to talk comms in the game so we can actually talk to our randomed fireteams.

  • Yes I agree I mean why does it take for hunters to get to the bottom of sub class to travel some distance and gain height with a triple jump.Kinda sad wish the hunter had some kind of soft motions.

  • I played all three classes, and yeah I noticed this too, now, don't get me wrong, I have seen some Hunters cleaning up in PVP, I am not sure if this was an attempt at balancing, as, a Hunter slowly falling with all those headshots in PVP might wipe out a team, if you could pull it off. This might change with Triple Jump that you get later, so I am not sure if this is an issue or an early lvl thing. (Sidenote I thought the Titan's lift felt what real rocket boots may feel like and I liked his "Lift" the best)

  • Compared to the glides the double and trip jump are way better, way faster, way more tactical just gota no how to use it bro.. Already been in countless situations where the double jump is far better... Coming from a guy 100% committed to the war lock b4 beta.

  • Yep...gotta love sitting on a Hunter and watching Warlocks and Titans slowly gliding across clear open sky in front of you like dandelion seeds...they're so easy to pick off it's almost criminal. Fun though.

  • I think it might even out at the higher lvls, but I cannot be sure unless I tried it, my opinion was I am not quite sure.. Hunters are scary in PVP, I think this is why there are limits on their PVE stuff.
