ENCRYPTED ENGRAMS EXPLOIT (possibly)?

So overall the game is extraordinary. But there are a few little tweaks that I noticed should be done for the full release (assuming they haven't been fixed already). So first of all, there's a few exploits I'd like to point out about the cryptarch and encrypted items. Let's say if I were to pick up an encrypted engram at level 2, and were to decrypt it right away, I would get a similar level item for my class. However, if I held onto that engram until I was level 8, all of a sudden I decrypt it and I have a level 8 or above item. I believe the engram should give you an item based on the level you were when you picked it up, and not based on the level you are when you decrypt it. Otherwise, you'll see people holding on to encrypted items all game until they decrypt 50 engrams at level 20 to get good items, using this as an exploit. Secondly, when you pick up an encrypted armor piece for your class (ex warlock), before decrypting it you can vault it and pick it up with a different class (ex Titan) and decrypt it, it is now an item for the Titan class and not warlock. Not sure if that is meant to be this way or not, but I thought I'd point it out just the same. Lastly, this is just an opinion of mine and almost every other player I've talked to on the beta: We believe that the beta progress should absolutely be transferred over to the full game. I don't really care if we lose our level, but at least let us keep some loot, SOMETHING. At this point, so many people are playing the beta that there would not be an "unfair advantage" but more so it would be unfair to the huge majority of players who actually did pre-order and play the beta. It sometimes took hours to get good gear and items and crucible ranks, not to mention legendaries from the iron banner. Why give us legendaries that we can't use if the progress won't transfer? This is just an opinion so please enough with the disrespectful "it's just a beta what do you expect" comments. And to clear this up, my opinion on the game won't change regardless of whether or not progress transfers, but personally I would prefer it to. Hope you read this Bungie! But seriously, goddamn great game!! EDIT: I'm learning through the comments that the engrams rarity depends on your cryptarch level. Therefore making it less of an exploit. If you held onto those items until level 20 before you decrypted them, you would get less rare items because your cryptarch level is low.

I see your point, but if they can't save them they'll just buy then anyways. Engrams are awesome imo, but they most likely aren't going to be anywhere near good "endgame" weapons and armor in the actual release.

  • Personally I'd rather start with a clean sheet, no carry over

    • At first I thought this was going to be an issue also. Then I realized that I get a crap load of engrams. Nothing is going to stop me from farming them at lvl 20 either. Im sure the raid rewards and gear you purchase with Crucible and Vanguard tokens will far outclass anything I'm going to get from the cryptarch, so no worries.

    • Never considered that, might start saving my class engrams :) although most of the engrams I get at level 8 give me level 9 and 10 loot i can't use

    • I would prefer no carry over. I want the motivation to play the game like I did when the Beta opened. Also, if changes are made, Beta material may not fit the final game.

      • I didn't even know you could do this with the encrypted stuff. Yeah def try to fix that, it takes away the grinding for better guns if you can just hold onto them for later.

      • i keep seeing people saying things like "ive worked so hard for my gear." Well thats your own fault. Everyone knows this is a beta and not the final build. Lots of stuff can already be changed in the final build. Like how fast you level yourself and your weapons/armor. The type of unlocks and upgrades on each weapon and how fast you rank up with venders. I have the epic hand cannon from the iron banner event, and im still on the side of everything should be wiped come launch.

        • You've worked very hard for level 8 gear that you're going to quickly replace or outlevel anyways. I've put an above average amount of time into the beta and I would not like to have my progress pass over. It would just cheapen my full game experience. I'm paying $100 for the limited edition and I want to get my money's worth. Besides you'll have a little over a month to cool down between the beta and full release.

          • Yes, i do agree with the engrams point, easily fixable and i hope bungie see this. As for the progress thing im still not sure what i want, but i think starting fresh is my prefered option as i can use what i have learnt in the beta to know what to buy/sell/keep/upgrade etc. and not make some of the mistakes i made in the beta.

          • Relating to transferring from Beta to Full Game. I strongly believe this will be done. Those playing the Beta would need to buy the game to continue playing with the characters. So in a way, Beta is a soft marketing campaign to get user trial the game.

            • I think one problem with holding onto the engrams is that your engram ranks don't go up. I could be wrong, but when I got my cryptarch rank to 3 I was getting blue's lvl 10 from green engrams. If I held onto the engrams I wouldn't level and just be getting a bunch of green at lvl 20. :/ I don't really see much of a problem with transferring the engrams either. Whether this was intended or not, I doubt it would change much for the reason stated above and also because your new character will more than likely come across a bunch of engrams on their way to the top. So you transfer it and decrypt at lvl 1 you'll just get a bunch of lvl 1 stuff. You wait till lvl 4 and you're likely to have come across the same number of engrams you transferred already, and still you'll just get lvl 4 stuff. The problem I do see in transferring, however, is that if you're using this to simply level your cryptarch ranks then we may see a bunch of lvl 1's with a high cryptarch capacity.

                • Never thought of that, the Engram exploit. Is it really really an exploit tho, if you wanna hold of a while until you get it de-crypted surely that's up to you. But I do get what your saying!

                  • The engram thing... engrams do more than just give you loot. The up your cryptarch level. Which gives you the ability to buy better engrams. Also if you level up the cryptarch enough you get special rewards like rare/legendary engrams. (I would know.. my cryptarch rank is 7) There was a rumour going around that starting a new character and fighting harder enemies would yield more engrams that you could then place in your vault for your main to use. I tried doing this. While I got a handful, it wasn't nearly as many as I get when I farm with my main.

You can only hold 15 items of 1 slot so, it's not that big of a deal

                    • This is good, not an exploit. It gives you a decision! You can use the engram at level 2 and get a level 2 item most likely stronger than your current one, or save it till level 20, but miss out on a probably better item for your level 2. Either way, its not like its giving them infinity engrams, so leave it.

                    • ok so i read some of the comments and i think the transfer should be implemented if you want it or you can decline and start over but i could reset stats and levels and only transfer weapons and items. in my opinon....

                    • I wouldn't say that's an exploit, I think it's just how it's been coded.

I dont think with lvl 20 green stuff will be the big deal... And for lvl8 its not that important since ull be lvl9 soon. Then 10 then 11 and so on. As long as you cant do this with legendary stuff it isnt a big issue imo

                    • This is an interesting post. I'm not sure if this is a design flaw or how they wanted it but I don't really care if it gets changed or not. If you want to use weaker equipment to level up to 20 then cash in then, go ahead, you earned it. As for changing classes, it could be a way to get some good gear for a new character by using an old character. A good smart way of farming (Assuming you don't care if that weaker character gets exp). Or maybe you just enjoy using one class more so you use it for farming but need gear on another class. Again, I am mostly neutral about this subject and if it gets changed.

No, Delete everything, this is a BETA to test the game, they are people out there that don't have access to the game, some will wait 5-6 days till they receive the game. Just no, delete everything every one start at zero. And I don't see the logic of your title and your little rant of : beta should be transferred . It will SPLIT the community/players in half. your fault if you wasted your time of grinding. Your post is retarded , I hope Bungie wont waste time on this.

                        • This is totally balanced by the cryptarch rank. Sure you decoded a bunch of stuff at 20 but then it turned out your rank was crap and you got all white items. Higher rank gives better loot. I have soo many cool things by powering up the cryptarch rank.
