The community on this forum is not what I was expecting.

There is so much entitlement among the users here that I feel bad for bungie. Combine that with the constant pissing contest between xbox and playstation and it's really bringing this community down. Call it beta, call it a demo, call it early access sneek peek.. I don't care what you call it but I have put around 10 hours into this beta so far (just my warlock) and I was able to get some buddies in as well. All for free really, the 5 for my pre order goes towards my final purchase so I don't see what people are bitching about as far as content goes. There is more than enough content here to let you know if this is the game for you. The only major critiques I do have though are lack of penalization for leaving games early, the damage indicator could use some work and joining/leaving fire teams needs some streamlining. Something I'm interested in as well is whether or not these pvp matches are hosted on dedicated servers or peer hosted. I've noticed some matches I feel like a god with my shotty and just can't be stopped. Then other times there is significant delay between my shot and my kill. All in all I think bungie did a great job in letting us try a new game that is kinda hard to explain and really needed some hands on experience to understand what bungie was bringing to the table. TLDR: how about a thank you to bungie for an amazing peak at what we will be able to experience come fall. Instead of bitching bc you ONLY got 10 hours for simply putting a fully refundable 5 dollars to support devs who are looking to break the standard fps mold. PS: I'd love to start to see some constructive posts. Not "omg bungie this is not enough".

While I agree with you that there is too much complaining about this game, there is also a lot that I am concerned with. Voicing those concerns is not only a player's right, but also their duty for helping beta test the game. Some of the things I am concerned about can be fixed before launch, some probably cannot. What I am trying to figure out is if this game will be weighted towards competitive or not. Will there be enough for those not interested in that side of things to do? So far, I think it doesn't look like it, but I could be wrong. I think there is a LOT that Bungie is not showing us. But I digress... The issue here is that both the player and Bungie get something out of this setup. It was a smart move by Bungie as it is a win-win situation. Bungie gets to test their servers on a massive scale, get feedback on what players want, and they get to see if their formula produces the reactions they are going for. On the other side players get to evaluate that formula, give their opinions on what they want to see happen, and play a portion of the game for essentially free. That doesn't mean that they have to like what they see. These are players trying to figure out if this game is what they want to spend their hard-earned money on. They are going to complain when they see something they don't like. The method of their complaining is what I take issue with most of the time. Complain about the parts of the game you don't like. Don't yell at Bungie telling them they suck and whatnot. You don't like the game? Cancel your pre-order and go without. That is all. Me, i am keeping mine. I have concerns about how much content the game will offer, but I can say that the content that has been offered in the beta has been FUN. I love going in with my fireteam and shooting those aliens. The action is frantic and I really do forget that I am playing a mmo. Until I go to the Tower. I find that amazing. If the volume of content is there, this, I am sure, will quickly become my go-to game and finally something I can play with my mmo-loving wife. But that is just my opinion. Good luck finding those you agree with. I am happy to talk to all those who can be civil and thoughtful (whether you agree with me or not).

  • I've found the community pretty positive personally, my glass half full attitude obviously missed all the negativity :)

The Community on this forum is what you make of it. Find the people who speak to you and follow them. Form groups where you can have the conversations you crave. And, welcome. I hope someone has said that.

    • Haha theres a varying age group and set of opinions. Things have always been this way I think. For me its really an environment, where, as DeeJ replied to you, is contingent on what you are willing to make of the experience. Online forums such is the nature of having free rein to be awful, or to not be awful.

    • I do agree with Deej. I've never been one to play online console games like that. I used to play mmos 5-6 years ago. So this was the true popping of cherry to online play with my psn. I looked to this forum to grow my buddy list -'do what I've found are some hardcore nice people who are encouraging and enthusiastic. They have made me fall in deeper love with the game through our organization in the crucible or our makeshift tactics in the devils lair. Yeah there's a lot of trolls... But there are some pretty great people here as well. Just like in the outside world. The people who do the negative things get the most attention. Hence why you see a lot of troll posts here.

    • I understand, where you're coming from. Unfortunately, forums will have the best of both worlds. I think its because no game is ever perfect. I think if Bungie is going to make this type of game, it should be completely embraced. It should have the simplicity of The Sims, and yet still be as intricate as Skyrim. I like the action keys for your character, like dancing, pointing or sitting. Go beyond that! Be able to have multiples of everything. Be able to kicks things, pat people on the back, show off your gun, more interaction with your ghost, etc. Ive got more but ill stop. How bout more dmg detail. Its feels like each ability unbalanced. I might be wrong. Love the dismantling option! Making less back-and-forth trips is awesome. I hope you can roam a little bit more in the full game, but remains to be seen. I just remember Defiance flopping. I have high hopes for this game.

    • It takes a little effort, but you'll appreciate the community more once you find those of us who are less loud and have had a few grammar lessons. There are rational people here, you just have to find them.

    • I really don't play for other peoples enjoyment and as far as I am concerned no one not even bungie has the right to tell me how to play a game. As long as I am not cheating. Quitting is not cheating. If I am not having fun then I will quit any game no matter what anyone says.

    • First... omg bungie this is not enough. ;P Second, I definitely agree about the quarrels between PSN and Xbox, childish, right? But what ever. People have a tendency of putting-up their standards and wanting to keep them, and therefore the beta not have meeting their standards they complain and leave a bad rating or whatever. But seriously, Bungie COULD have given us more time to play the beta, especially the xbox users... because they get like half the PSN's time to play the beta, and it's only like a week long.

    • Idle, I have to agree with you, I will be playing my beta and final copy on my Xbox, but I did play the beta on the PS4 as well thanks to a friend. All in all, the beta is hands down the best beta to ever go down in game history, so thank you Bungie, and happy hunting to everyone else.

    • I hope there is no punishment for quitting on your team, cuz if there is I swear many ppl who are competent (such as myself) will either quit pvping or just pub stomp. Why should I punished for being part of a team that has a phobia of flags?

      • Don't know how anyone would be "surprised" about a games community. In just about everything, we have people constantly bitching about how bad the community is... This is NOTHING new.

      • It's not THIS community, it's THE community. Unfortunately. There is no game forum that doesn't have this kind of attitude going on. Just always tell yourself it's just the vocal minority, else you will lose faith in humanity ;)

      • totally agree with you buddy :) people never cease to amaze me... for the worst ^^ Let's give Bungie some credit, they did a marvelous job that shouldn't be spoiled by a pack of dumbass, bitching about this or that, as they want to be super soldier in 5 seconds and why they aren't ruling the world, well... they're missing completely the point of Destiny, which is obviously not Call of Duty or Battlefield. p.s. sorry about my broken english :D

I figure ill only be amazed and could be nothing less than thankful for Bungie doing such a great thing for us. some people on here act like spoiled house cats,ha.

      • I've never played a game like this before, thus I find myself shooting at other players in the heat of the moment, if I do this to you it's not on purpose I promise! There's a lot going on in game and I get trigger happy. That said, I get a bit frustrated not knowing how much more EXP I need to get a new upgrade, but I'm used to numbers instead of a bar so that's on me I guess. Anyway it would be nice to know how close I am to the next upgrade besides the bar that SLOWLY builds. Anybody else feel the same?

        • That's basically how most communities are, especially for games like this and games that aren't released. When communities shine are when the games land in their hands and what they can make of it. It's like back in high school. There's people you like, and people you hate. You got to listen to all of them, but you only need to talk to a few. For some reason everyone else seemed the same, but you and your friends seemed different doing weird crap.
