What is a preload? I'm late to the party of understanding this term.

Ps4 pre downloads on like sept 4 so when the game comes out BAM destiny ready to go

Preloading is when you download the game before it is released. The system won't let you play the game until midnight on launch day, but when that time comes you don't have to spend time downloading the game and can just right into it since... well, you already downloaded it! So it's really for those midnight release people.
