It would add a nice touch to the game. Investments into a particular gun or piece of armour should not be wasted when you set your sights on investing in a new item. Cool story btw.

Most games want you to feel attached while you have the gun but then forget to put something in place for the weapon's afterlife. I know that sounds a little silly, but when you make players trash weapon after weapon, it belittles their original intent to make decisions feel vital or impactful.
