lord knows I try to lift...

I try. Oh my god I try. But I can't seem to lift very much at all. I get my three meals a day, maybe not the healthiest meals, but meals none the less. I have been going to the gym for almost a year and have seen little to no progress. I don't get stronger, I just get more and more tired and exhausted. What am I doing wrong?!

  • People will tell you all the exercises in the world, and you can do them too. It wont do jack if you don't get enough sleep and a good diet for building mass.

Change up your routine, different workout everyday and have two different workout routines to switch between every week. I've made some pretty big gains in the last month doing this (bench max went from 155 to 225) and of course, push yourself, I would have never gotten that much if I didn't have encouragement to push myself.

  • I've been working out in gyms for 20 years and have tried numerous of the fads/routines/programs out there. I know them feels, man. Sometimes it just seems like you're making zero progress. What is your eventual goal? To get healthy? To try out for a sports team? Complete an event (like a triathlon or marathon)? To look good naked? (totally legitimate goal, by the way, and oftentimes the best kind of motivator) Knowing what you're trying to do is helpful in trying to figure out the best way to get there.

You can't just stick to the same routine over and over or you will not progress further. You need to change it up once you get stuck on a certain weight. What is your routine / diet?

    • It depends. I suggest 5x5 stronglifts if you want to refresh your routine because it caters to any style of lifting. If you're training just for strength, just eat whatever and however much you want. If it's a bodybuilding split you want to follow, watch your diet. Do not overload your brain and stress out over what you're eating with IIFYM, low carb diets, etc. just stick to the basics. Some good YouTube channels for advice: OmarIsuf, CanditoTrainingHQ, VicsNatural, Bios3Training. Weighted calisthenics are excellent for building a strong body too :-)

      • Eat healthier food to help you bulk (I assume you are bulking). Are you getting enough protien? Are you getting enough good carbs? Why only 3 meals? Why not 5 lighter ones? Why not both?

If you are looking for muscle gain. You'll usually want to eat X amount of grams of protein == to your weight and/or more. And if you're getting exhausted, Eat more carbs. Then balance out the rest. Whats your calorie intake?

No enough protein, your muscles cannot repair and grow without it.
